The house and property were so quant and clean and set up perfect.

  • 5 of 5

The house and property were so nice and quant and clean and set up so perfect. Nice mattress and bedrooms.

Myself and another niece took our elderly aunt on a color tour trip to Maine. And we picked this place because so close to Acadia National Park and Little Deer Isle and Deer Isle.

It is not the owner 's fault, there is a drought in that area of Maine right now. So we did not have enough to water to all three take showers or fill the nice big tub in the bathroom. At the end of the night we could not brush our teeth and flush toilets. We were gone all day and usually got back around 6:00 PM and made dinner and did the dishes. We only did two loads of wash. One was all the towels we used during our stay. It took an hour and a half just to fill the wash machine. And then no water for us.,till morning. We left early for home because of it. We left one day early. We bought water for the second to last day to flush and brush teeth.

It is not the owners fault. But, we did not have a relaxing time because of it. Does VRBO have insurance to refund us ? Or is it up to the owners to do the refunding?

Comfortable home with plenty of space

  • 4 of 5

Visited this home in Aug '17 w/ my family while attending a wedding in Brooksville. We had 6 people and a dog. Overall we were happy with the house & experience.

Pros:

'Homey' feel

4 bdrms w/ plenty of sleep spaces

2 living rooms for hanging out

Stocked kitchen w/ all sorts of supplies

Big yard, pretty landscape & quiet location

Dog friendly owners and space

Cons:

No curtains in almost all rooms- there is a bathroom facing the road and people can see you if you don't hang up a makeshift sheet or something. Also hard to sleep late in the morning w/ all the light.

Shower situation- not sufficient for a house that can accommodate up to 10 people. There is one stand up shower that is quite small; there is a tub upstairs w/ a hand-held faucet but it's not really a good option for showering. There also wasn't enough hot water when we all showered around the same time.

Stove/oven were a challenge- No directions on how to use the oven in the kitchen and the back burners on the range were only working sometimes.

When we were there, there was a huge nest of yellow jackets directly outside the sliding glass door to the deck. Tried using some spray but there were too many.

Again- overall we enjoyed our stay. There were just a few quirks. I would recommend this rental.

Peaceful setting

  • 4 of 5

The home is larger than the pictures would have you believe. We had 7 with plenty of room for our together time. The kitchen was fully outfitted with dishwasher. Great gas range. Plenty of towels for showers. Very clean. Down side - which has been mentioned here. Windows need more coverage. We stayed in July and the sky lightens at 4 am with rising sun at 5.

Nice place away from it all.

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay at Jim and Susan's place. The home was clean and worked well for our family of 7. Jim and Susan were very helpful when it came to any questions or requests. We hope that next time we are in Maine that we will be able to stay again. If your looking for a big home where you can get away from the tourist and the noise at night this is a great option.

peaceful location

  • 5 of 5

The farmhouse was beautiful, comfortable and enjoyable for all seven of us (including a 15 month old baby). The area is spectacularly beautiful. We hiked when it wasn't raining and played board games when the rain came. The dinning room and kitchen tables only sat 4 each and we had to combine them in the dinning room to seat us all for Thanksgiving dinner. Thank you Susan and Jim for the use of your home and making this Thanksgiving a cherished memory.

Nice quiet setting

  • 3 of 5

A group of 5 adults spent a week at this home in Brooksville. It is an updated farmhouse and served us well. I'm only giving it 3 stars because we had no water on two occasions. The owners did respond to our questions and a new water pump was actually delivered while we were there. So hopefully no water issues for future renters! The living room furniture could be updated as well. The weekly rental for this property is a bargain and the fact that the owners allow dogs is a big plus! We love the outdoors and did some hiking nearby at Holbrook Island Sanctuary and Barred Island Reserve. The house is about an hour drive from Acadia. The foliage at this time of year is absolutely gorgeous!!! I would consider renting this home again.
