Welcome to Porthaw! Porthaw is the name of a place in County Donegal, Ireland in which the owner has fond memories and family ties. Located in the sought after Tahquitz River Estates neighborhood just 1.5 miles south of downtown Palm Springs, near the ACE and Parker hotels. Unlike the north end that experiences frequent high winds, the south end of town is much more tame. In 1947 a famous Mid-Century builder from Los Angeles, Paul Trousdale, developed homes on either side of the Tahquitz River banks, and called them "Tahquitz River Estates".
This luxurious home has been recently and completely refurbished to provide an elevated experience for the discerning traveler. The property is perfect for traveling professionals, 2 couples, or small families with children over 12 years of age. You’ll find plenty of space to spread out and enjoy each other while having the privacy of separate sleeping quarters and bathrooms. This home has been thoughtfully updated with the modern amenities you'd expect at a luxury home or hotel. You'll find fresh flowers, pressed linens and high quality towels and robes to provide a true luxury experience. Bathrooms stocked with quality toiletries, and a kitchen stocked with everything you'll need to prepare great meals.
From the front door, you’ll enter a spacious great room with walls of windows open to the private back yard and pool. This home has been re-envisioned to make the best use of outdoor and indoor space. It is minimally furnished to provide a wide open, uncluttered living space.
There are 3 bedrooms total with 1 king bed and 2 queen beds. 2 of the bedrooms have ensuite baths while the 3rd bedroom uses a 1/2 bath in the hall. The 3rd bedroom would share the bathing facilities in the 2nd bedroom.
You'll enjoy a very private and lush back yard with incredible mountain and sunset views. There is outdoor dining for 8 and sun lounging areas. This very large back yard has plenty of grass for barefoot play that will feel great even in the hottest sun. You might want to spend your whole vacation in the back yard! The entire property is inside a 6' masonry wall with an even taller hedge. The driveway is circular and gated at each end.
There is laundry in the garage; which is available to our guests for parking of one car as well. The smart TV in the living room is Internet/cable connected. The home has WiFi Internet throughout. There is a Bluetooth speaker that can be used anywhere in the house and outdoors. The entire house is thoughtfully set up with everything we can think of to make your stay as relaxing and stress free as possible. Additional services are available from your host, HOST Palm Springs including pre-arrival refrigerator stocking, or most any request you have for your stay, within limits of course!
When you arrive at Porthaw, your host will provide you with a tour of the home and familiarize you with the property. Our goal at Porthaw and HOST Palm Springs is to provide our guests with the best possible vacation experience.

Pool and Spa (hot tub) heat are optional. Most will not need the pool heated in the warmer months (June - October), but you may elect to have a hot spa. The daily fee is $50 for both or $25 per day for spa only, weekly fee is $250 for both or $125 for spa only. If you choose pool heat, the pool will be heated daily 8 am - 5 pm (flexible) to 85 degrees (considered a comfortable swimming temperature) and the spa will heat on demand, to 101 degrees. City Tax of 11.5% is added to the total per Palm Springs ordinance. A one time cleaning fee is added as well. All fees are included in any quote we send out to you.
The following are required by city ordinance:
- Must be 25 years old to rent
- No outdoor amplified music 24 hours per day
- No more than 6 registered guests overnight
- No more than 10 people on property at anytime
- Total of 3 cars allowed at property
- Signatures of all registered guests required at check in
- No parties or events can be held at the home
- Trash must be kept in supplied receptacles out of public view
- Quiet time after 10 pm (no noise at all can be heard at the property line)
All potential guests must acknowledge and commit to the above requirements prior to acceptance of rental.
Upon check out, please make sure that all of your dishes have been placed in the dishwasher and start the dishwasher before leaving. Take all trash and recycling out to the cans provided. There is no need to strip beds but if you want to start a load of towels, it is always appreciated! If you do wish to wash towels, please wash colors and whites separately. When you are ready to leave, just text us and we'll stop by to lock up.
Palm Springs takes a lot of interest in vacation homes and has an ordinance that prohibits amplification of outdoor music. This ordinance also limits the number of people that can be on the property both overnight and in the daytime. This property has an occupancy limit of (6) persons overnight and is allowed (10) persons during the day. Trash and recycling must remain in the proper receptacle as provided. If you have additional trash, please let us know and we can advise on proper disposal. These rules help to keep a peaceful balance between our guests and full time residents (both of which we hold in high regard). We try to stay on good terms with all the neighbors and have come to realize that a little respect goes a long way. Everyone's peaceful enjoyment is important to us.
