About Alpine Getaways Reservations

We live in Texas full time (and get to CB as often as we can). When we acquired Winterset, we decided to exercise our 'inner B&B' and make our second home available to family, friends and vacationing guests when we can't be there. We travel extensively - having stayed in many VRBO properties - and through that experience, hope to deliver to our guests the experience of staying in a close friend's home.

Alpine Getaways Reservations purchased this house in 2012

Why Alpine Getaways Reservations chose Crested Butte Area

We learned to ski in CB in the 70's and have been coming back ever since. We LOVE CB in the Winter and only recently discovered the summer magic of the Gunnison Valley!

To that end, we fell in love with Winterset the moment we walked through the front door and saw the jaw-dropping views of Snodgrass and the Elk Mountains. But, the charm of the home had us at 'Hello.' The wood floors, the reclaimed wood inside and out, the grillin' deck, the hot tub and the view of Mt. Crested Butte from the kitchen sink window.

What makes this house unique

Climb Mt. Crested Butte. Ski (XC or downhill). Lounge by the wood burning fireplace in the Great Room or Master Bedroom. Mountain bike or hike two minutes from the driveway. Sip coffee or cocktails on three separate decks with breathtaking mountain views. Watch hummingbird social idiosyncrasies all day long. Head to the little town of Crested Butte (a 10 minute, 3 mile drive or bike). Your choice. You are in a home, not a rental. And, you are guests, not renters. And this is YOUR vacation. So do it all. Or don't do any of it. No pressure. The only rule is that you must leave Winterset and Mt. Crested Butte renewed, refreshed and reinvigorated. And come back again.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Awesome House in Crested Butte!!! Just right for our 2 families.

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time over Spring Break. We traveled with one other family, so 4 adults and 4 kids, and there was plenty of room. The house is generously kept with a large movie collection and games. The 2 living rooms on separate levels are awesome to send the kids away for a while. Great kitchen. Multiple patios, gas grill, and hot tub were all used by our group and worked great! I can't wait to go back for the summer, the views are incredible in the winter and I bet they are even better in the summer.

Spectacular Mountain Views in Spacious Home

  • 5 of 5

We visited in October with another couple. Our kids attend Western State so they joined us for the weekend. The layout was perfect for our group. Each bedroom has its own private bath and there is another family room with flat screen on the lower level so everyone has space. The kitchen is well appointed with plenty of top of the line cookware, utensils, glasses, plates, etc. Beds were very comfy too.

We really loved the wonderful views in every direction. We spent a lot of time on the decks. The free range cattle visited on a few evenings! The hot tub is also a nice addition, especially after a day of horseback riding, hiking or biking. (I'm sure it's also great after a day on the slopes, but we were there in the fall with temps in the upper 60's!)

The home was very clean and everything was in working order. We did visit some of Crested Butte's restaurants and would recommend Maxwells, McGills and Last Steep. We also recommend Fantasy Ranch for horseback riding adventures. I would not hesitate in recommending this cool mountain home to a friend!

Spectacular Fall colors in equally spectacular home.

  • 5 of 5

Visited Crested Butte for the first time, wishing for good Fall color. We hit it perfectly and we could not have chosen a more perfect home for our group. As per other reviews, the pictures do little justice. This was, hands-down, the nicest VRBO home we have ever rented. Four suites, with top-notch bedding, linens, etc. Charming, cozy, comfortable.. with views of so many mountains.. We played games, sat by the double-sided fireplace in both the living room and master bedroom, grilled steaks on the grilling deck, hot-tubbed on the lower deck and hung out on the upper back deck to sip coffee in the morning (in flannel PJ's), and in the evenings, cocktail and watch the sunset. And the views of the mountains in all of their Fall glory were breathtaking.

We're clean-freaks and this home was spotless. The kitchen is loaded with everything the foodies in the group needed. And we had a terrific dinner experience at The Sunflower down in town. We drove to Gothic to see the Rocky Mountain Biological Lab, took the Red Lady lift from the base (Silver Queen was close for repairs) and then hiked all the way to the top of Mt. CB! We even went to the Vinotok event (although we would not do that again) and couldn't wait to get back to the house for the evening...

I will definitely recommend for family and friends.

Cozy, clean, comfortable and oh, those views...

  • 5 of 5

We loved everything about this house. We've done many VRBO rentals - this home was far and away the cleanest, most tastefully appointed home. Big mountain views, hiking, biking and jeep trails, etc. all seconds away. Echoing others: super-comfy bedding, plush linens and towels, uber-stocked kitchen, and hummingbirds galore (had to refill feeders every couple of days). Even built a fire or two during afternoon thunderstorms. Three decks for grilling, chillin' or morning coffee/sunset cocktails. And high temps in the low 70's? Bring a sweater. Didn't want to go back to Texas! We felt like guests in a friend's lovely home - not renters. Would definitely recommend to family and friends.

Crested Butte Home

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this home over Spring Break. It is an amazing home with incredible views. Easy access to skiing either by car or by access to the Owners Trail. This house is very clean with all the essentials of home provided. We are always looking for homes on VRBO with great furnishings, clean sheets/bedding, and great fluffy towels, not just the old hand me downs. The owner's of this home treat it like their first home. It is amazing! Highly recommended.

Owner's Response: Thank you! We go to great lengths to provide the perfect place for guests to relax, cook, nap, read, and recuperate after a day on the slopes or hiking in the mountains - not to mention just sitting on the decks taking in the spectacular views! Please do come back!

Terrific cuisine, craft brews, and boutique shopping in the Norman Rockwellian town of Crested Butte - a town that has barely changed in the 40 years we have been visiting.
