Truly one of the most beautiful and walkable neighborhoods in Detroit. Tall trees, time capsule architecture, and comfy street corner cafes that also happen to be some of Detroit's newest and best restaurants. Minutes to downtown. I am a Detroit/Delhi-based writer, publisher, and teacher and this is my spot.
Sleep on the most comfortable bed and visit the coolest places for any cultural persuasion. Freshly remodeled and smartly furnished apartment. You will instantly call this place home.
I contributed archival research, interviews, and reviews to a Detroit guidebook called WildSam Field Guides, so I can help you put together a great Detroit itinerary or fill any holes you might have in your existing plan. We stock the house with these guides, so you can use ours or buy your own from our living room bookshelf. We will also send you a list of all our favorite Detroit things once you confirm your reservation.
The apartment has a very mid-century modern feel and circles around a central parking lot much like a motel. Since this is facing the alley, it has a very secluded feel. For the bed, you will sleep soundly on my king Tempur-pedic mattress with light, airy sheets.
I want you to feel like you are at home, so please help yourself to any food in the kitchen. The space is also just fun to be in. You can control the music with your voice via the Amazon Echo or connect your phone to my Bluetooth speakers. There is a TV in the living room with Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, and HBONow. Because winter is coming.
I grew up in Montana, teach history and sailing on tall ships, ran a storytelling startup in Detroit, and worked as a journalist and publisher in India. My mom embedded with drug cartels in Colombia and wrote a travel book in New Zealand. Together we have decorated this place with remnants of our travels and artifacts from around Detroit.
First time visitors to Detroit and city regulars alike will enjoy using my space as a base of operations. I will send you an email when you book with some of my favorite recommendations and can help you craft an itinerary when you arrive.
My mom, Karen, will be your point of contact for arrival and check-in. She will get you settled and then shift to my nearby sailboat, so not far if you ever need assistance.
We both love helping people explore Deroit, so interact with us as much or as little as you like.
