Why Property Manager/Owner chose Squirrel Hill South
You won't find in Squirrel Hill such a Frick Park from your 200 sq. ft deck. Take walks, jog, bicycle next door on the Frick Park trails. Private but accessible location to so much.

The host thinks of everything that makes the stay easy and enjoyable.
I especially loved the light from large windows overlooking Frick Park. The closeness afforded ability to walk the park easily and awake to trees in fall colors. The new kitchen accommodates most cooking needs. A good spot.
Pretty Good for Our Needs
Over all this property was good for our needs. We wanted an apartment in Squirrel Hill (Pittsburgh, PA) for a month. What we got is a very large second-floor studio with a great deck overlooking Frick Park. The location is wonderful, within walking distance of the restaurants, supermarket, shops, post office, banks, movie theater, etc. in the business area. There is on-street parking.
There is a metal circular staircase leading from the driveway to the deck and door of the studio. It is not for the faint of heart. When wet it doesn't drain well and is slippery. Anyone with a physical disability would not be able to use the staircase. Inside the garage there is an elevator which is helpful.
There is sufficient drawer space and a hanging rack for clothing. There is a desk for a laptop computer and access to WiFi. There is a flat screen TV with free access to Netflix and a (well-worn) leather sofa. There are plenty of chairs for visitors.
The kitchen is not what I'd call well stocked. There is a small fridge, an ancient microwave, a toaster/convection oven, and a two-burner hot plate. There is also a coffee maker, a toaster, and a ninja blender. There are lots of dishes, but none of them is suitable for microwaving. There are minimal pots and pans and other cooking utensils. The only "cooking" I did was heating up restaurant leftovers.
The bathroom is adequate. There is very minimal counter space at the sink, but there is storage space above and below. The tub is jetted, but not guaranteed to work (we didn't try it). The shower is fine. The towels are mostly well-worn and ragged. The toilet has a bidet function (we didn't try that either).
In my opinion, the decor is eclectic. I had the feeling that all the furnishings were purchased at yard sales.
The king size bed - the one BIG disappointment - is actually two metal cots pushed together. There is no box spring. It wasn't comfortable at all. The bed linens didn't fit (they bunched up and wrinkled) and the comforter was heavy and cumbersome. I strongly suggest a real bed be purchased for the space.
Frick Park Delight
We rented this apartment for six weeks, beginning in July 2017, and as far as we are concerned, one couldn't find a better location in Pittsburgh, so close to the magnificent Frick Park one could rightly say, "the apartment is in the park." Moreover, the lovely Squirrel Hill neighborhood is mere moments away with its wide & varied array of shops, restaurants, grocery stores, banks, library, post office, pizza places, ice cream parlors, bagel joints, and bars. If one is visiting/working at Chatham, Carnegie Mellon, or Pitt universities, each campus is about ten minutes away. Public bus transportation is available, with the Oakland neighborhood and downtown Pittsburgh accessible within 20-30 minutes. Free on-street parking is also easily convenient.
The apartment, itself, has a large, airy, open loft-style floor-plan, and is tastefully appointed, with windows on all sides - especially park-side. It is set far enough away from the street to be extremely quiet for sleeping, and all the windows had sufficient shading to keep it "quiet, dark & private." Storage closets & dressers were plentiful, the bathroom - with walk-in shower & jacuzzi - was comfortable, and the beds were great for those who enjoy extremely soft mattresses. The kitchen, is well-stocked with cooking utensils, dish & glassware, and features a refrigerator, microwave, toaster, food-processor, table-top convection oven, and two-burner hot-plate (though the latter two appliances can only be used one-at-a-time, making even routine meal preparation limited, and barely adequate for longer stays). Directly outside the kitchen area is a lovely upper-level deck/patio with tables, chairs, and lounging cushions. A gorgeous & very mature "butterfly garden" borders the house below, and attracts a wide variety of butterflies & hummingbirds. Wifi connections are terrific, and cable television is also provided. A washer/dryer is also available & convenient.
The owner, Ms. Tolliver, is helpful & gracious, responding quickly to all inquiries, and also providing thoughtful reminders about monthly on-street parking restrictions & weekly municipal trash pick-up schedules.
The overwhelming positives of the location, beauty, and general comfort of this apartment, for us, outweighed the soft beds & awkward cooking arrangements, and we would happily hope to return should circumstances call us back to Pittsburgh.
Perfect location, spacious studio, Lovely setting
This studio, adjacent to Frick Park in Pittsburgh, is the perfect home away from home. The owner's description was totally accurate. We would love to return to this great property on our next visit. We have stayed in other VRBOs and found this to be at the top of our list. So well equipped. The owner's are very nice and very customer focused. A lovely stay all around.
Lovely and spacious.
Love having the microwave and refridge. The small table around the corner from the main room (which is huge) was very handy for my husband who likes to have a place to set up his laptop. Enjoyed all the amenities...including snacks...that were left for us. Very quiet. Will stay again even visiting family in PIT.
Spacious suite ~ beautiful setting.....
Our stay was great ~ beautiful views and comfortable accommodations ~ the elevator and spacious bathroom were especially appreciated as we were staying in Pittsburgh following my daughter's knee surgery. Catherine (and Munchkin) were wonderful hosts.
Squirrel Hill is located about 5 minutes to Oakland, CMU, Univ of Pitt, downtown, waterfront shopping, hospitals (UPMC/AHN)
