Overview

About the property

2 Bedroom 1 Bath Lakefront Cabin All Amenities

Our wonderful lakefront cabin has all the amenities of a modern home: Wifi, satellite TV, heating/air conditioning, full kitchen including dishwasher, and a fabulous screened in porch that faces the lake! It's situated on an acre and a half, so there's plenty of privacy as well. Whether you stay at the cabin or venture out, you'll find tons of activities to enjoy!

It's the perfect distance from downtown Iron River, WI -- just a short 15 minute drive for necessities, dining and entertainment, but far enough away to enjoy the peace and quiet of a cabin nestled in the peaceful Northern Wisconsin woods. Don't miss the famous and delectable Delta Diner just 2 miles south of the cabin, featured on Food Network's - Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives (Tip: Get there early!).

Stay in or go out -- there's something for everyone to enjoy! At the cabin, relax on the screened in patio, roast s'mores around the fire pit, fish, swim or snorkel on the lake. Don't forget to bring your binoculars and check out all the beautiful birds, including loons on the lake.

No matter which direction you go from Iron River, you'll find fun activities. These are just some of our family's favorites that we return to year after year. Go whitewater kayaking on Brule River, and sea kayaking on Lake Superior from either Cornucopia or Bayfield. Observe from bridges and swim in breathtaking waterfalls at Amnicon State Park. On warm days head to Cornucopia, WI and pick up a picnic lunch at the historic Ehler's General store then head to the public beach for the day. (Tip: The kiddo's really enjoy building dams where the artesian well water meets the lake -- keeps them entertained for hours, while parents soak up some sun!)

Head to Ashland and stop at the Northern Great Lakes Visitor Center which is a great place for the kiddos. It's got interactive exhibits, staff to help you plan activities in the area, a nature hike and a 360 degree lookout tower at the top. Continue on to Ashland for shopping and don't pass up stopping at the South Shore Brewery/Deepwater Grille for lunch or dinner.

Head to Bayfield for berry picking, observe the sailboats at the marina, attend a concert at Big Top Chatauqua, take the kiddos on a ferry ride to Madeline Island (on foot or in the car).

If bicycling is your thing, check out the Chequamegon Area Mountain Bike Association or the WI DNR's website for more information on off road and on road paths.

Head to Hayward, WI and check out the National Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame. This place is also family friendly and has a giant Pike fish to walk up into. There is also excellent driftwood collecting at the public beach on Lake Superior in Herbster. Many of the nearby towns have festivals as well: Cornucopia Days (summer), Iron River Blueberry (summer), Bayfield Apple (fall), Bayfield County Fair in Iron River (summer).

We hope you'll enjoy our little getaway as much as we do!

About Adair Taulbee

If you were to wonder what has possessed us to drive 1,200 miles from Texas to Wisconsin every summer for the last 30+ years for summer vacation, you wouldn't be alone. But, it's an easy thing to explain -- quite simply, that's how much we love it! The back story, however, goes like this... In the 1930's, my grandmother's in-laws (who resided in Aurora, IL) purchased a lakefront property on Lake Siskiwit in Wisconsin. Though my grandmother's husband died in WWII, my mother and her two sisters came to own the property that generations of us grew up spending our summers at. Through a series of familial events, the property ownership was restored to the sister that originally inherited it and thus our search for a new cabin to call home began. We've spent the last 4 or 5 summers renting until we found the perfect new place for us!

Adair Taulbee purchased this cabin in 2015

Why Adair Taulbee chose Iron River

Though our original cabin is a bit farther North, we fell in love with the little town of Iron River after renting several cabins nearby. We like that the town is small but has a grocery store, laundromat, several restaurants, and entertainment so we decided to focus our search on the surrounding area. We had several things we were looking for, most importantly a well wooded lot on a quiet, beautiful, clear lake. Secondly, we were looking for a structure that was well maintained and had the modern amenities of home. After months of scouring Zillow, a spring trip up to scout, and finally multiple viewings of over 10 properties, we were very blessed to find this wonderful new place!

Everything we hoped for and more.

When you rent based on pictures and reviews, there's a chance things won't be as they appear. Totally not the case with this property. My family and I were very pleased with this cabin, from start to finish. The property owner is very easy to contact. We will not refrain from renting this cabin again. SUPER VACATION, WONDERFUL PROPERTY, EXCELLENT OVERALL EXPERIENCE.

Spacious House for a get together with family

  • 5 of 5

Had a great time. Kitchen was well stocked. Lots of lake toys. Good fishing for late July.

Lots of good birding. Easy commute to Ashland or Iron River. Plenty to do in the area.

Good recommendations from the owner for restaurants and activities. Owner very responsive to questions. I would stay at this VRBO again if in the area.

Beautiful cabin for multigenerational family

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this property in mid-June 2018. We had two children, 6 and 10 years old, parents, and grandparents. We took good care of the cabin and received our entire security deposit within the week. We cooked breakfasts and dinners, and fished and paddled around idyllic and clear Lake Delta. We watched loons diving and turtles sunbathing, found our favorite snails and mussels, and stared back at the bald eagle. TV and Wi-Fi worked consistently.

We blew a circuit using the coffee machine one afternoon, and the caretakers had the power back within the hour. Even though other parts of NW Wisconsin were being washed out during the big June 2018 storms, we had no trouble driving back on our access roads and highways. There were plenty of games, jigsaw puzzles, and toys to play with during the rain.

The nearest grocery was 15 min away in Iron River. The cabin contains tons of materials to visit the waterfalls and other attractions on the Bayfield Peninsula. We visited Manitou Falls, Amnicon Falls, Houghton Falls, Twin Falls, Lost Creek Falls, and the Northern Great Lakes Visitor Center. Lost Creek Falls was our favorite. The 1.5 mile hike on a well-maintained trail was a beautiful prelude to the main event. Once we were there, the kids could play in the water and sneak behind the falls.

We'd definitely return, hopefully during a less rainy time.

Northwoods Hideaway

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the Lake Delta cabin for 2 weeks and had a great time. Very nice, comfortable cabin on the lake. Everything was more than expected. The cabin was very clean, well equipped including pots and pans, dishes, cooking utensils, all appliances, satellite tv, wifi, telephone if needed, extra clean towels, sheets and comfortable beds. Tried out the Weber BBQ many times for burgers, sausage and steaks. The screened porch was outstanding. We were lucky as the bugs were not that bad during our stay. The fire pit was an added bonus, along with the firewood. My wife made a point in feeding the birds from the hanging feeders in front of the porch. Had to get extra birdseed and she had to refill the hummingbird feeders many times. We tried out the kayaks and canoe on the nice days. Paddle boat and row boat are there too, if you feel the need. Wish I had my pontoon boat there. It would of been nice to cruise the lake and fish other parts of the lake. Caught a few small bluegills from the dock and saw a few other people fishing on the lake and catching a few. We are originally from northern Wisconsin, so we had a lot of places and people to visit. The Delta Diner was on our list for one visit, unique but once was enough. Recommend Twin Gables in Brule, just as good and much more reasonably priced, Patsy's Bar in Washburn for a good burger, Hydes has a decent fish fry on Fridays, Anchor Bar in Superior for a good dive bar burger, gotta try a Trinko sausage, Cherryville road on the way to Washburn. Lots of places to check out and returning to the cabin was excellent. Private, quiet and not to far from places to visit. The only thing that didn't work for us was the yard light by the lake. It's very dark down there. We recommend the cabin if you need a place away from it all and would do it again if we visit the area again. The owner has a small gem of a place on Delta lake.

Beautiful and relaxing. Very clean and many amenities. Everything advertised and more.

  • 5 of 5

Quiet and peaceful on a beautiful lake. The cottage itself is homey and comfortable. We particularly liked all of the birds at the many feeders and enjoyed kayaking. It is situated quite nicely within an hour of Bayfield and the Apostle Islands to the north, Copper Falls State Park the Potato River Falls to the east, Pattison State Park with Manitou Falls and the attractions of Duluth barely an hour to the west. Gooseberry Falls, Split Rock Lighthouse and scenic highway 61 in Minnesota are all an easy day trip being just north of Duluth. Lots to do at the lake and many attractions nearby. And of course a wonderful and responsive landlord. We will definitely stay again when in the region.
