A historic cabin in Washington, VA completely renovated and updated in 2015 to provide a retreat on the edge of the Shenandoah National Park (a trailhead allowing Park access is about 100 meters away). Less than two hours from Washington, DC, this house combines rustic charm in a 19th century hand-hewn log cabin with modern comforts, including a newly constructed great room and outdoor porch with panoramic views of woods and pond.
Our cabin is about equidistant to Washington and Sperryville (about 5 miles in each direction). It provides a great location to enjoy activities as simple as a walk in the woods, or as elaborate as a special dinner at The Inn at Little Washington. There are other restaurants and pubs in nearby Flint Hill, Sperryville, and Washington. Local communities, breweries, wineries, and farms have activities all year round. Or just relax in a tranquil environment.
The house consists of one master bedroom with a double bed, and a very large fully enclosed loft with a restored fireplace facade that sleeps four. The cabin has a sitting room with a working wood stove. There is a bathroom with large shower and underfloor heating, and another half bath. The great room is the centerpiece of the new renovation, with 18 foot vaulted ceilings and views of the woods and the pond on three sides. It is wrapped by an outdoor covered porch. A full kitchen with gas range, dishwasher, refrigerator and ample counter space invites cooking indoors, or grill outside on the porch. A washer and dryer are available.
This house is very unique and with new renovations is ready to host your special visits to the country. We have tried to include many amenities for your comfort and ours, although the cabin is best appreciated as a retreat from city life. And as beautiful as this space is, please note that an old cabin in the woods may not be for everyone. There is ample space for children and young adults to enjoy themselves and connect with nature. There is much wildlife, including deer, wild turkey, birds, bear and venomous and non-venomous reptiles, that visit the property and can be viewed from the house, or encountered up close. Please be prepared, and take special caution when exploring our frog-filled pond, and to supervise young children in this area. We have internet access via wifi (although high-speed access is limited by the ISP) and mobile phone use is available at the cabin only if your carrier allows coverage via wifi.
