Why Joseph Neal chose Summerville
The village of Summerville is on the National Register of Historic Places. This historic home has been beautifully restored and was designed by the famed architects Scroggs & Ewing in the roaring 20's. Mr. Neal is only the second owner of this 90 year old home. It was very nice, but...
Let me just say the home is beautiful and there was plenty of space. I would politely suggest the owner get regular bug service because there were too many roaches running around at night. (We are all from Florida and understand these things, but still...) That's an easy fix. Just get regular bug service.
Also, and this is sort of sensitive, but I feel the need to mention it...we had a mix of ethnicity and cultures in our group and to be honest, not everyone was thrilled with the confederate flag glasses, Robert E Lee painting, religious stuff and Trump stuff. It's a private home, and certainly up to the owner to do what he wants, plus we are in the south...but it still left some feeling like "who owns this place" and then they googled and just...oh my. It wasn't everyone's cup of tea.
But like I said, the house was big and in a good location and for the most part, we really enjoyed ourselves. Just felt uncomfortable with a few things is all.
I live in my home part-time and get regular bug service. I am very sorry for what you experienced. The house was cleaned immediately before your stay. We had a lot of rain before you arrived from one of several hurricanes and that apparently increased the presence of pests during your stay. The house has been sprayed professionally again since you left.
As for political and religious pictures, and a historical painting in my house, I have rented my house for years to a mix of cultures and ethnic groups (including the worlds most famous living golfer Jack Nicklaus) and no one has ever complained to me about Christian and Civil War paintings and an autographed Inaugural invitation from the President of the United States. I will be happy to display these photos to any future tenants in advance upon request as I would never want to offend a paying guest.
This is a place I would recommend to anyone visiting the Augusta Area. It easily sleeps 10 people as either couples or single. Well manicured lawn, with many upgrades done to enhance. We had 8 men, under one roof, and enjoyed the very spacious kitchen, grill, swimming pool, pool table, televisions in all 5 rooms, along with kitchen. You will not be on top of each other. Master bath was amazing, basement is also a nice feature to this home. He's working on making some changes down there, but I would say when that's complete it's really going to make it even better. I had great communication with the owner the entire visit, if I had a question or noticed a problem, he quickly responded and granted permission when asked. Great Home, looking forward to possible staying there again next year. Neal.. Thanks..
It was a pleasure having your group stay in my home for the Masonic event in downtown Augusta. I could not have asked for better tenants. God bless you all and thank you so much for staying at my heart and soul, little Versailles.
Our home is located in the center of the village of Summerville, incorporated in 1861 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
