About Don B. McDougal

Don and Pat McDougal purchased this property in the fall of 2004 and converted it into their personal tropical paradise. Owners of the nearby Grand Tradition Estate and Gardens, they moved onto the estate fall of 2015 when Don's parents moved into an assisted living property. Rather than sell their home they decided to offer it to their clients, clients guests and visitors to the North San Diego County area.

Don B. McDougal purchased this house in 2004

Why Don B. McDougal chose Fallbrook

We purchased this property because of the views, the open concept and beautiful yard. We have come to especially enjoy the tranquil peace and quiet of the property.

What makes this house unique

Vistors to Casa Cazador will enjoy walking the garden pathways, lounging at the patio and pool and just enjoying the sounds of nature and running water from the pools waterfall. The house interior is decorated with a tropical flair to complement the back yard view. The house is perfect for relaxing or entertaining.

One of the best VRBO experience we had!!!

  • 5 of 5

From the very first time we contacted Don till the end of of our amazing vacation, he had been a great host. Me and my family really appreciate Don's arrangements for our request of christmas trees for kids and heated pool (it is heated for an additional cost but we were not aware of it since it was not advertised anywhere on the website, so he did not charge us for it ).

We booked this house for our christmas vacation for 10 people. Not only the drive to the house was beautiful but the house itself was great. The highlight of the house is it's backyard with heated pool, fire pit, botanical garden and mountain views.

The house had all the amenities, board games, books, extra towels, extra blankets, utensils etc. My family had a great time and we hardly went out of the house.

The only 2 lowlight (not a big one) is that some part of the backyard did not have grass, it was just dirt unlike shown in the pictures here. Also even though the pool was heated, it was not heated enough to feel comfortable to be in during evening or late afternoon But Don did mention that he installed a new heating system and we were the first one to try it out. :)

Overall I would highly recommend this place!!

Thanks Don!!

Bridal Party House

  • 5 of 5

The home is beautiful and was the perfect place to get ready with my five bridesmaids. When we arrived, Don had ingredients for guac and 2 bottles of wine. The open layout and high ceilings made the home feel large and airy. Everyone who came by the house raved about the lush landscape and wide open spaces. Communication with Don, check-in, and check-out was easy and convenient. My family cannot wait to stay at the home again, though being able to bring out dogs would've been nice. I would highly recommend Don's home.

Fantastic property with a few negatives.

  • 3 of 5

Our overall experience was very good. Don is a great host and accommodated even a few special requests. The property is beautiful, and the house is spacious, comfortable, and has a very nice layout. We couldn't get over the landscaping and the well kept gardens and plants. We were a little disappointed that the grassy area had been taken out, presumably due to the drought. The only negative was that Don didn't tell us until we arrived that the air conditioning did not work in a main bedroom, and it does get quite warm in the summer. I think he should get that corrected. He did provide a fan which helped. Also, there was very little lighting in that same bedroom. The kitchen nook lighting was also very dim. The pool was beautiful and the whole family enjoyed it immensely. In fact we didn't leave the house much at all, and had a very restful vacation. I also think that an outdoor hot tub or jacuzzi would be a great addition!

Amazing retreat for a reunion

  • 5 of 5

We recently stayed at Don's place for a college reunion. It was the perfect getaway for our short time together. The house, patio, grounds and pool were all amazing (the pool was an easy favorite for all). The house was spacious enough for 4 small families. The house had everything we needed, the beds and sofas were very comfy, bathrooms were clean and spacious, the kitchen was fully stocked with pots/pans/etc. Other bonuses were the fire pit and pool toys/noodles. We would definitely stay here again, but next time we'd stay a little longer! It was truly amazing and thanks to Don for making the stay so great (yummy guac and accessible for questions/help).

Extraordinary, peaceful, comfortable

  • 5 of 5

Impossible to put into words the beauty, peace, comfort and luxury of the very special Casa Cazador, and the delightful owners who went out of their way to make us feel welcome (via great personal tour upon our arrival), and invitations to the nearby Grand Tradition Gardens that they own. The Grand Traditions is an enchanting and diverse 30-acre wonder of waterfalls, grottos, lush gardens, and a wonderful Victorian-style mansion with a gourmet veranda restaurant. The Casa Cazador home where we stayed is a miniature version of the Grand Tradition, complete with lush floral settings and trees. and a serene water-fall into the swimming pool lagoon directly adjacent to the covered lanai/patio. The interior of the house was beautifully and comfortably decorated with a theme of palm fronds and palm trees in the upholstery fabrics, furniture accents, and art work. The rooms are large, comfortable, and inviting. A particular joy was the creatively designed flow from the front door through the high-ceiling living room then around a two-sided bar for entertaining both the living room and the family room on the other side of the bar. It's hard to describe, but very special when you experience it. All in all: magnificent, calming, gorgeous, peaceful. One of the few places we'd come back to for another visit.
