About Wayne Gardner

Wayne is an avid golfer, reader, traveler, and home remodeler. Auburn University graduate. Retired Insurance Executive/Agent. Susan is an artist, reader, and decorator. Also an Auburn graduate. We have two grown children, Greg and Holly.

Wayne Gardner purchased this cabin in 2015

Why Wayne Gardner chose Sugar Grove

Daughter is going to acupuncture school nearby for the next four years, one week per month. We decided to buy a vacation rental place in the mountains for Holly to stay in one week out of the month. It is available for rent the rest of the time. We picked out 8 properties on line and saw all 8 in one day and picked out this charming cabin!. It has been a very popular rental with mostly 5 star reviews!

What makes this cabin unique

This cabin was a private second home for the last 10 years. It was totally remodeled in that time period and is in great shape. Great location, privacy, and first class amenities including a six person hot tub makes this Private Mountain Retreat special!!

Such a lovely home!

  • 5 of 5

It was a relaxing stay. Sugar Mtn skiing is about 30 minutes away. Banner Elk Cafe is about 25 minutes away and it had amazing food! It’s close enough to civilization if you need to go but secluded enough to feel like it’s a total getaway. The hot tub was perfect for this chilly weather.

Great time at Sugar Grove cabin

  • 5 of 5

Place is neat and clean, bigger than I was expected(which was really good for my big family) closer to town for groceries and not far at all for skiing ⛷ jacuzzi was the best part for the juniors(they really enjoyed even with the freezing temperatures) kitchen has everything you can use to prepared your foods, enough of activities around. We had a great time. Thank you 😊

Dec 28-30, 2017 stay.

  • 5 of 5

This was a nice property, fairly isolated but not too far from Boone, Blowing Rock, and ski/tubing. The property was as advertised and was exactly what we needed. We had two young adults staying in the loft area, my wife and I on the middle floor, and another young couple on the bottom floor so had some space to ourselves when desired. We enjoyed the hot tub and gas fireplaces and were fortunate enough to see some light snow. I would recommend a stay and we may look to make a reservation again next year. One suggestion: if you like large bath towels, you should bring your own.

Wonderfully relaxing!

  • 5 of 5

The house was very clean, cosy and comfortable. We really enjoyed the hot tub after lots of walking and a day of snowboarding. We liked the little extras like the games table, hammock, fire pit and telescope.

Amazing cabin so close to Boone!

  • 4 of 5

Loved the rooms, location and amenities. The area was full of great places to eat and visit. The new Caijin noodle place near campus had amazing cocktails and apps. If you feel like a short drive to Blowing rock, the downtown window shopping cannot be beat. A fun idea for lunch in Blowing Rock is located as a humble converted gas station that billed itself as a beer and wine shop BUT had a GREAT deli inside.... yum! Also, we highly recommend Dan'l Boone Inn for a family style dinner if you go early (like 5 o'clock).

The only drawback of the trip was the driveway. It was almost two steep for our sedans. The 4 cylinder could only get up the drive with a "running" start. A larger, 4 wheel drive wheel drive vehicle is needed for wet, slick or snowy times of the year for sure.
