Renters beware. Started with septic issues, moved on to no electricity on the dock.
We go to Gaston every summer and have never had a bad experience until now! It started as we pulled in the driveway and a neighbor came up to inform us the septic alarm was going off. When I called the owner she seemed a little irritated that I was calling and said “both of the neighbors have already called me. My husband will be there in an hour to look at it. Until then just don’t use the toilets or run any water”. That was kind of hard since the 10 of us had traveled and all needed to use the bathroom. Also the frig was dirty and there was food left in the freezer. An hour later the owner still was not there and we did not feel like we could unpack and start our day because we didn’t know if it would be remedied and we knew we couldn’t stay there with no water. Every time anyone had to use the bathroom we had to drive to the marina. A couple hours later he got there and worked on it. After an hour or so he was able to get it running and said he would talk to us and “make it right”. When he was done he didn’t talk to us at all and just left. Later that night we tried to sit on the dock and the electricity went out. After flipping the circuit breaker as instructed by the owner it would last about 4 seconds and then cut out again. We called the owner again and his response was “well you can’t use the boat lift and that’s really all you need it for anyway”. I told him we use the power to charge the boat batteries. He then said “it doesn’t seem that you are having a good vacation” and offered to refund us if we were out by 10:30 in the morning. At this point it was 10:00 at night and I informed him that without light on the dock we would not be able to pack our stuff from the dock and get the boats ready. Not to mention, we would need to pack all our bedding, other stuff and repack all the food back into coolers. I asked if we could stay til later the next day and get only half back and he said no and that if we stayed past 10:30 we would only get 30% back of our cost. We decided we didn’t care about the money just about getting as much time together out of our 3 day mini vacation as possible and we agreed to the 30%. Both nights that we tried to sit outside on the deck we ended up having to move inside because the septic smell was so bad. After leaving I emailed the owner about the refund. he proceeded to tell me all the fees deducted from the 30% and said “take it or leave it”. To this date we have not received a dime of our refund!!!!
Perfect House for a Family Get Together
The lake house is bright, beautiful, spacious and comfortable with wonderful views of the lake. The area surrounding the house is equally inviting and quiet. Given the perfect weather, we were given the opportunity to enjoy being on the lake taking turns in the jon boat. Sitting by the fire pit and making smores was a hit. There are games galore for all ages as well as reading material and movies so even if it is a rainy day fun can be had indoors. The kitchen is also well stocked. All in all, young, old and in between had a great time. S. McBride
Beautiful house. Great place for larger groups. Exceeded expectations.
This beautiful house is well maintained, stocked and is great for larger families/groups. The house is tucked back into a small cove but provided easy access to the lake with a marina and restaurant right across the other side. We rented a large pontoon boat and it was great to be able to tie it to the dock right in front of the house. Bedrooms are well appointed and there are two pull-out sofas to complement those that dont want to share a bedroom. The kitchen was large and well stocked with anything you could ever ask for with plenty of pots, pans, appliances and utensils. The downstairs bar area and extra full size refrigerator was great too! Josh was more than helpful in answering questions. Thank you for sharing your home. We hope to be back again!
Our extended family of 14 rented this property for two days to celebrate our daughter's 30th birthday. We really enjoyed the spacious, clean and well kept home. We spent a lot of time on the water boating, fishing and jet skying. In the evening we relaxed by the side of the lake. The only problem was that we should have rented it longer! This property exceeded our expectations and we would definitely recommend it to those who want to get away for a few days.
The Horst Family
Large house, very clean. The owners are very responsive to questions, etc. We had a wonderful time and there is a lot of room to spread out and enjoy!
The home was beautiful and it had everything we needed to enjoy a nice relaxing week at Lake Gaston.
The pictures on the website do not do this place justice. It is much more beautiful in person. We were there to celebrate a 50th birthday with our entire family and a good time was had by all!! Large kitchen was great and every amenity we needed. The home was beautifully decorated but very homy. We would definitely come back or recommend this property to friends. Owners were always quick to respond to any questions we had which was nice. We were sad to leave!!
