About Rich or Linda Davis

After a life of building homes, commercial fishing in Alaska and archaeology in Arizona, we chose the Methow Valley as the ideal place to put our skills to work. Here we live in the outdoors with our goat and horse finding far too little time for all the wonderful projects we love to participate in.

Why Rich or Linda Davis chose Twisp

When we fell in love with the Methow Valley and its namesake river, shared it with family and friends and saw its affect on them, we felt blessed to be offered the opportunity to purchase and refurbish the Benson Creek Crossing Ranch. Our intent is to preserve the land and riverfront as a wildlife refuge and place for like minded people to appreciate nature through outdoor activities. We want to share this historic and unique place without destroying the reasons we love it.

What makes this farmhouse unique

We cherish everything about the natural world. Our river is a living entity, filled with anadramous fish that travel over many dams to reach this perfect spawning stream. Here, watching eagles, osprey and waterfowl is a daily event. Wildlife abounds, although patience is often required, yet wild turkey and deer are common. Sitting on the ranch house porch in the shade of original homestead trees, listening to birds and squirrels, and being treated to a wild mountain view with the sounds of the river, an occasional raven and the nicker of a horse is about all some of us need to recharge our batteries. Fresh fruit from our trees or the local farmers market, meat from our amazing custom butcher and a bottle of award winning local ciders and wines tops it all off. Ending the day in anticipation of another in a place where every kid would love to grow up, what else is there.

We have found that for a small community, almost isolated in the depths of winter there are amazing choices for entertainment, Frequent music and entertainment events, lectures and plays are part of everyday all year life here. There exists a vibrant art community, craftspeople of all types selling at markets.

Outdoor activities draw most people to the Methow Valley. Year around there is plenty to do. Groomed cross country ski trails , a downhill ski area 20 minutes away from the ranch, unlimited snowshoeing and an ice skating arena in nearby Winthrop compete with ice fishing on nearby lakes.

Spring brings river and stream fishing and begins the mountain biking season, due to the endless trails and forest roads set aside for this kind of activity. There is hiking for all levels of endurance along with marathons and trail racing. Beautiful mountain lakes offer more fishing and photo opportunities. Rock climbers love the North Cascades and peaks of nearby mountains.

The river provides rafting, fly fishing and swimming or just soaking up the rays on shore.

Perfect family retreat

  • 5 of 5

This is our second time staying at the cabin. We had so much fun last year celebrating my husband's birthday we decided to book the same cabin again. The space was perfect for two families to share. We appreciated the attic space with a closed door, so the kids could go upstairs to play games and have fun together. The parents could enjoy some peace and quiet downstairs. The dogs had a fenced area in the back, so we didn't have to chase them down in the evenings. They also enjoyed walking along the property in the mornings and afternoons to get some energy out. The kitchen was well stocked and we love the gas stove in the living room. It helped dry out all the wet ski clothes from our adventures at Loup Loup Ski Bowl (which is also very family friendly). Everyone took a turn lounging on a couch to read a book or cooking a meal. The beds are very comfortable and cozy in the cold weather. As we were packing up the kids were discussing which beds they would sleep in next year. We were unsure last year about the house being so close to the road, but the noise never bothered us, it wasn't noticeable. Having laundry onsite was nice to wash some clothes after getting soaked in the snow. They had plenty of towels and had thought of many details that made our stay very comfortable. We highly recommend the cabin!

Lovely ranch house on the river

  • 5 of 5

This is a very comfortable home for six adults. The kitchen is set up well for cooking. A winter stay ruled out use of the outside porch. It would be a very pleasant option in warmer times.

Clean organized home with a nice property

  • 4 of 5

Our family of four and our dog had a great time at The Ranch. We could see deer, hawks and eagles from the windows. The beds and bedding were very comfortable. When we weren't exploring the beautiful Methow Valley, we were reading by the gas fireplace.

Nice place and easy to get to. Had everything we needed at the home.

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our stay here. Beds were comfortable, and the home was clean and neat. There is a nice place to walk down by the river. Close to Twisp and Winthrop. We were attending a wedding at Skalitude, and it is about 20 minutes from there. Would stay here again.

Quiet - peaceful - the perfect escape

  • 5 of 5

We have rented a number of VRBO's the last few years and found this one to be exactly as described.

We left Florida in August and had been traveling a month when we arrived. The "ranch" house was perfect. It's secluded , quiet, location was just what we needed.

There was nothing missing in the home, the owners had thought of everything. The owners responded to several questions almost immediately. We would love to have the opportunity to return one day.

Methow River
Car: necessary

The area features over 200 miles of groomed cross country ski trails which later in the season become part of the Methow Valley Trail System for bicyclers. Downhill skiing is only twenty minutes from the ranch. Although not allowed on the ranch, snowmobiling opportunities are only a short drive away and draw people from all over the state..

There are countless trails for hiking and horseback riding following every imaginable type of terrain. Public land surrounds the valley in every direction. Mountains, shrubbe steppe, valley floor and backcountry wilderness offer almost any kind of getaway imaginable.

Numerous accessible fishing lakes, plus mountain lakes galore. A scenic paradise for photographers of all interests.

Serenity can be the biggest attraction to be found in the Methow Valley. Wildlife and bird watching enhanced by local experts offering identification field trips.

Trail running and cross-country running events, hiking for all levels of fitness and lots of massage therapists to loosen those tired muscles. Music festivals and entertainment of all kinds provide year around opportunities for all tastes. Art exhibitors and galleries work together to provide workshops and demonstrations. Twispworks is the newest event center where artists, exhibitors and entertainers combine to define the cultural character of the area.

Fishing lakes and streams provide excellent opportunities for both table fare and trophy trout and steelhead catch and release. The nearby Columbia River contains trophy triploid trout, steelhead, salmon and walleye during designated seasons.

Golfing opportunities are available at Bear Creek golf course and Alta Lake.

Guided river raft trips and guided fishing are available as well as self guided float trips. Our beach is a perfect launching or take out site for inner tubes and fishing rafts. Swimming can be done in lakes, rivers and the local pool, but the beach at the ranch is private, safe and our favorite spot to find serenity, read a book or just enjoy the natural world unscathed by development.

We are members of and promoters of the Methow Valley Interpretive Center where history, native American culture and the natural history of the area is told by displays, exhibits and speakers. An award winning garden area of local plants is both beautiful and educational. The Schaeffer Museum in Winthrop features the valley's history of mining and pioneer life.

While you are in the western themed town of Winthrop, don't miss Sherri's Sweet Shoppe. World class chocolate made on site along with ice cream and baked goods attract the biggest crowds in town.

The Methow Valley, still an active ranching area, attracts horse lovers from all over the northwest. Trail riding, numerous outfitters and guides, rodeos, rendezvous and trails into the backcountry provide opportunities for every level of horseback riding. The Benson Creek Crossing Ranch caters to those who wish to bring their ponies. We provide generous sized stalls, wide trailer turnaround and parking and onsite riding opportunities along with an adjacent tack and feed storage room. A nearby veterinarian and tack and feed store can fill your emergency needs.

For those who wish to walk or ride onsite, there is an easy trail along the river on the edge of a sunny pasture looking down over clear tumbling waters and hidden places to sit and enjoy.

The ranch is meant to be a family place where barbecues, picnics and indoor/ outdoor living combine to bring an atmosphere where sharing the days adventures together in your own safe space creates lifetime memories.
