2 Bedrooms, 1 Bathroom, Sleeps 4 close to natural adventure
This 2 bedroom, log post and beam cabin is the quintessential Canadian vacation package. The home was built by local craftsman, a father and brother in law team, to the owner. Extra care and attention were given to allow maximum living comfort for anyone who visits. There is in-floor heating throughout the home and a wood burning stove in the living room to watch while enjoying a hot beverage. No air conditioning is required as it is designed to avoid direct sunlight in the summer and maximises the warmth of the winter sun. The river can be viewed from almost every room and the windows can be opened to catch the cool river breeze. Watch and listen to the pristine Slocan River and the rest of nature in the garden or covered outdoor living room. During the late summer and into the winter, there is one of the best beaches on the Slocan River right in the front yard. For the past 4 years, Osprey’s have been nesting across the river and providing Kootenay Life entertainment. Adolescent Osprey’s have been seen learning how to fly and fish during the summer months. This IS the place to reconnect with nature, while enjoying all the amenities that are required for an enjoyable holiday.
The Slocan Valley offers an abundance of seasonal activities that include canoeing, kayaking, rafting, tubbing, fishing, boating, paddle boarding, swimming, cycling, running, walking, hiking, wildlife viewing, horseback riding, motor biking, marketing, downhill skiing, cross country skiing, and snow shoeing. Across the road from the cabin there is the Passmore Trailhead. The 100km Slocan Valley train tracks were converted into a non-motorised recreational trail; which follows the lenght of the Slocan River. Our location is also the gateway to the B.C. Provincial Park, Drinnon Pass and the Valhalla Mountain Range where serious hiking, mountaineering and snow cat skiing occurs. Whether you’re tanning on the beach or barreling down a mountain, all of these experiences share a common thread of being surrounded by an abundance of nature.
There are great restaurants, bakery, distillery and grocery stores that serve up or sell local organic produce that are within a 5 to 15 minutes’ drive from the cabin. Additionally, all other grocery items including liquor, fuel sales, and post office are within this proximity. Close by is Endless Adventures and Valhalla Powder Cats. Endless Adventures provides kayaking and paddle boarding rental equipment, instructor classes for individuals and groups and a retail outlet. Valhalla Powder Cats skiing offers professionally guided tours through champagne powder without the line ups. Both are truly apart of the perfect Canadian vacation.
The cities of Nelson, Trail, Castlegar and Rossland are all within 45 minutes from the cabin. The cities boasts amazing restaurants, shopping and artistic flair with their own individual community spirit. Local artisans are on display through various mediums that can be viewed around town while enjoying a leisurely stroll with a hot coffee or ice cream. During the spring, summer and fall there are many destinations to enjoy. Some popular locations are Kootenay Lake, Arrow Lakes and Slocan Lake. There are many winter activities such as Red Mountain, Black Jack Nordic Ski, Nancy Green Nordic Ski, White water ski hill and Apex Nordic skiing all within 45 minutes from the cabin.

it doesn't get better than this!
We had a glorious sun filled week in this stunning home....so much attention has gone into the building and architecture as well as the decorating. The kitchen had every amenity and beds were very comfortable. It was such a pleasure to enjoy morning coffee or evening wine on the charming covered patio, listening to the river run and watching the ospreys soaring and feeding their young. Lovely gardens. Wendy was a great host, helpful and amiable and good with communications. She thoughtfully gave us eggs from the chickens out back. Great walking trail nearby and close to local fruit and veg or all that Nelson has to offer. If you have little ones, there is a nice small beach and toys and games. We just loved the tranquility and stunning view of the majestic Kootenays.
Just as lovely as it appears to be!
This was a really lovely home to stay in, and in a beautiful location! it was close to everything for day trips and relaxing enough to stay put all day as well. The little private beach is lovely. "Rails to Trails" provided a scenic easy walk - bikes would be great for that trail. My one tip would be that the bedroom light switch is behind the headboard! it took me a little while to find it :)
Great location, perfectly appointed, wonderful host, lots to do!
Our week spent in the log home, And experiences in the area, are best summed up by those two words.
We two are seniors (active) travelling from the East Coast Canadian Maritimes to visit our daughter. She is following her dreams here in the Kootenays. And now I fully understand why.
There is an abundance of diversity in the area. The scenery everywhere is a cross between spectacular and soothing. Quirky Nelson had us visiting on 3 separate occasions.
The property is located right next to one of the trailheads for the Slocan Rails/Trails pathway, for easy, level and amazingly beautiful walking and/or biking. Also easy floating / rafting / kayaking down the river - with the help of a nearby outfitter if required. Plus - Refreshing swimming (late July).
Driving 1/2 - 2 hrs takes you to very different and beautiful outings. Yes, BC is big, and to fully appreciate the Province, driving around is part of the adventure.
Small local cafes / restaurants are a very short drive away in either Slocan or Crescent Valley. They offer fresh and local grown very tasty fare, for those times to dine out.
Local Co-op with Food/Wine/Gas is short minutes away.
Everyone we met was super friendly. Genuine, no nonsense and proud of their community.
BUT why would you even want to leave the property? The Post and Beam construction is out of this world. Master class quality!
We have travelled extensively in Norway. So if you want to experience the luxury and quality many Norwegians do, without paying the exorbitant amounts required to vacation in that country, then this is the place for you!
Landscape is pretty darn close too.
Without a doubt this is the best supplied kitchen we have come across in all our years of travelling. (We both love to cook).
The home is Spacious, open concept but room for privacy too. Lounging on the covered patio outside is pure decadence.
The owner is wonderful. She (and others) went to extra lengths to make us feel like we belonged. Thanks All!
And the bottom line is : Without reservation we highly recommend you stay here.
Our next visit will be two weeks instead of only one.
The cabin in situated with in a 1/2 hour drive from both the City of Castlegar and Nelson. Nelson offers a wide variety of cultural activities and is well known for its artisan flair, great food and good entertainment. Castlegar is known for it's Sculpture Walk and being the Hub of the West Kootenay's.
