About the property

Seclusion and solitude on the ocean in the Lahave Islands.

Bell Island Cottage is located on the LaHave Islands only 25 minutes from Bridgewater Nova Scotia on the scenic South Shore. You will be on the last Island connected by road on a 3 acre lot with 200+ feet of ocean frontage. The property offers complete seclusion but you are only 5 to 15 minutes away from the following:

- Risser's Beach Provincial Park and Campground

- 1 mile long Crescent Beach

- Petite Riviere Vineyards

- A general store in Petite Riviere which has atmosphere, a fully stocked liquor commission and occasionally local musicians.

- The renowned LaHave Bakery on the LaHave River adjacent to the Cable Ferry which begins your journey to the towns of Lunenburg, Mahone Bay and Chester

- Weekly Farmer's Market

The cottage itself offers ocean views from every room and every bed. Wake up and go to sleep seeing, hearing and smelling the ocean. Completely renovated in a nautical theme mixing tradition with modern comfort, easily accommodating 6 people. The master bedroom has a 4 poster queen sized bed with fine linens and a high end mattress which will rejuvenate you. The second bedroom appeals to kids and the young at heart with a cozy single over double bunk with a view of Bay Beach on Cape LaHave Island. There is a large living room, full kitchen with a bar seating area looking into a south facing sun porch. All with ocean views so spectacular you will feel like you are on a ship. Three piece bathroom with a tub and shower.

Hop in the 4-5 person row boat, and row to one of the nearby islands to explore one of the many secluded white sand beaches, dig clams and pick mussels (boat and tools included with rental). During July - September, even the inexperienced fisher can use the row boat to go fishing for mackerel with the prime locations indicated on a map in the cottage. The fishing gear required is very basic and the owner will be happy to tell you what you will need.

On calm days, one of the most peaceful ways to explore the islands is by kayak. Seals, porpoises, waterfowl, shorebirds, and osprey are often encountered. Kayaks are available at additional cost. Please contact for details.

Guestbook comments from the owner

This cottage is exactly how it is pictured with views that are absolutely breathtaking! It is so quiet and peaceful. When we walked in the door, we were greeted with fresh, homemade bread, butter, and jam on the counter with a very nice welcome note from the owners. There is a rowboat and a fire pit at your disposal. The cottage was very clean, and the kitchen was stocked with anything you would need. The location is remote, but there are plenty of local places not too far away. We loved LaHave Bakery! We also visited a nearby winery and a fun general store. Everyone you encounter in the area is so kind and welcoming. The owners were very responsive by phone and left all of the information we needed in a binder in the cottage. We had a blast! I wish we could have stayed longer. I would definitely recommend this property!

Great place to stay

Great house in a great location. It was described accurately. We had a fantastic time kayaking and using the rowboat to explore the islands nearby. If you stay here, you will not regret it!

Amazing, relaxing, beautiful

  • 5 of 5

My friend and two teenage daughters were overwhelmed by the beauty that surrounds this oceanfront cottage. It feels incredibly private and relaxing and has all the comforts of home. We cooked meals in the clean, well equipped kitchen, paddled around the bay in kayaks, roasted smores on a fire by the beach, and read and played games while looking over a beautiful view of the water. I would highly recommend this rental to anyone who wants a private, beautiful, and relaxing vacation.

away from it all

  • 5 of 5

If you want to get away from it all this is the place. When we booked we didn't realize it was really that far out. You actually have to cross three skinny bridges to get there. The place was clean and surprisingly spaceous with a nice combination of antiques and modern. It was refreshing to have the modern bathroom in an older cottage Close to the water, and a provided row boat although we didn't use it. Beautiful sunsets on the deck with wine from the French winery up the road. Do check out the General Store close buy. We were surprised to find local produce and meats and eggs there. Do not go to the Blarney Stone Restaurant unless you want frozen fried food.

Long drive to cottage, but GPS was very simple, and the scenery was absolutely beautiful along the way so no complaints. No TV except movies, but there was a nice selection which we took advantage of each night.

Very spaceous kitchen (wish they had a dishwasher) as well as living room, and there is an extra sunny room out back as well as a nice deck with chairs and table. We enjoyed watching the tides change and the small islands out front. One night we watched the otters playing in the water.

If you want to get away from it all, and be able to have a base to explore the area this is it.

Do check out the Painted SaltBox Gallery for fun, funky art.

An outdoor fire at night looking over the water was amazing! Rowing to nearby islands and exploring was so much fun. The facility itself was very nice and had everything we needed.

Beautiful location & Gorgeous sunsets

  • 5 of 5

I'm so happy I found this gem, Bell Island Cottage. I don't think I've ever stayed in such a serene, peaceful location while on vacation. The fresh baked loaf of bread and homemade jam were devoured upon our arrival and were such a lovely welcoming touch. The cottage was clean and exactly as pictured, and the row boat is a fun excursion itself. Two of the nicest beaches in the province are only minutes away - perfect for a relaxing afternoon. The sunsets from the deck were absolutely amazing. My only regret is that we didn't take a whole day to just hang out at the house and enjoy it to the full. I would not hesitate to stay here again - thank you for a beautiful home away from home!
