About Mike & Kim Westcott

We are Florida residents, we live in Pinellas County just 2.5 hours away from our Crystal River home. We love traveling, nature, hiking, and just about every other outdoor activity.

Mike & Kim Westcott purchased this house in 2015

Why Mike & Kim Westcott chose Indian Waters

We chose Crystal River to buy our vacation home, because we love the outdoors and enjoy the secluded natural areas of Florida. Crystal River is surrounded by nature yet only minutes away from modern amenities, it is the best of both worlds.

What makes this house unique

This home has that old world feel before life got so busy, we have combined its cozy traditional character such as the wood burning fireplace, hand carved dining room table, and antique furniture, with decorations that we have acquired from our many travels around the world.

The place was perfect for us. Very clean and comfortable. Many things to keep everyone busy, and close to places we wanted to visit. We hope to stay again.

Needs tlc

  • 3 of 5

Home was not what we expected....when we arrived we felt the need to clean. It has been swept but everything else needed attention. Called and let them know. I would guess it was purchased to be a rental, work has been done to improve, but several items are not what I would call renter ready. Once we made a few adjustments it worked ok.

We Already Have Reservations For Our Next Visit

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at this large home. The pictures on the VRBO website are very accurate. With just two of us occupying this home we had oodles of room. All of the beds appear to have memory foam mattresses. My husband claims that he might have to get one for home after sleeping so well there.

The kitchen is small, but has everything needed for most meal preparation. The owners or prior occupants have left plastic wrap, aluminum foil, storage bags along with basic spices and condiments. The owners provide paper towels, dish detergent and dishwasher detergent in addition to the usual dishes and cookware. There is also a crockpot, two coffee makers, electric mixer, and toaster.

The public area of the home is very open as shown in the pictures with seating for relaxing or watching TV, a dining table for 6-8, and in a corner is a large L shaped desk for your computer. Better lighting for the desk area would be appreciated.

The guest bathroom has been updated very tastefully and was a pleasure to use. The master bathroom is going to undergo a major remodel in the future.

The covered patio area is a nice space to relax out of the sun or if raining, but be prepared for the mosquitos and no-see-ums if there is no breeze. When we visited there were 2 sit-upon 10 ft kayaks, 2 smaller sit-in kayaks, the paddleboards, a 3 person canoe and a paddle boat. Please note the paddle boat isn't enjoyable for adults as the pedals are too close to the seats. We thought taking the kayaks to the park launch was the easiest way to use them.

The neighborhood is very quiet – in fact it’s so quiet that with the windows open you can hear the fish jumping at night. The yard is fenced on all sides except the canal, great for our little furry friend.

We love being outdoors walking, hiking, biking, and kayaking. The location of the property was perfect for our purposes. It’s ½ mile walk to the Archaeological & Crystal River Preserve State Park and the jumping off spot for several trails. A two mile bike ride gets you to Churchhouse Hammock walking trail or three miles the other direction to the Eco-Walk trail. The area allows for one to bike the streets easily without worrying about traffic. If you want to ride downtown or to Three Sister Springs there are bike friendly paths to allow you to do that.

Kimberly answered all of my texts immediately and patiently answered my questions. We had no issues with the property during our stay. We already have plans to return.

Great place to stay, so much to do

  • 5 of 5

It was fun to see a different part of Florida. I was surprised to see palm trees and evergreens growing next to each other. The house had plenty of room for a larger family or even two families. It was well stocked with board games and videos. Outside there was a putting green and shuffleboard. The water was right in the backyard and they had kayaks, stand up paddle boards, a canoe and a pedal boat. We took the canoe out and saw a juvenile alligator along the shoreline. They also had many bikes, we rode to the 2 state parks down the road.

The house had flyers for state parks, biking trails, restaurants and other things to do. We had a great time.

Owner's Response: I am so glad you enjoyed your stay. We are in the process of adding a 20 ft Pontoon Boat to the rental as an optional extra. This boat can be rented with the home or future guests can rent just the home ( boat will be extra). Our hope is this will add convenience and more fun for our renters as some of the best things in Crystal River can only be done and seen by Boat.

So FUN

  • 5 of 5

We had a blast at this house. So much to do. We loved being on the water and riding bikes to the parks near by. We drove to Hunter Spring and saw manatees! Very comfortable, clean, well stocked kitchen and plenty of room. We would stay again for sure.
