Overview

About the property

Three Bedrooms with two full Baths and a loft sleeping area: Sleeps 8 in comfort

In the Foothills of NC, this unique home has three bedrooms, two full baths and a cozy loft with a queen sofa bed. This is a very comfortable and well equipped home. It sits on almost fifty acres of quiet, private land, surrounded by forests; the setting will give you the privacy and quiet you crave. The view from the front porch is of the South Mountain State Park, a great place to sit and rock for awhile. There is no light pollution and on clear nights you can easily see the Milky Way without a telescope. You may want to pack one though. Asheville is only 50 miles, and makes a terrific day trip as does Black Mountain, the Blue Ridge Parkway and Morganton, NC. For horse lovers and spectators the new Tryon International Equestrian Center (TIEC) is only about 30 minutes away. Only one hour and fifteen minutes from Charlotte, this home makes a perfect weekend retreat from city life.

Phones

There is a land line for receiving calls and making local calls to include 911 service. Cell phone coverage depends on your carrier. Options are to use popular phone apps for calls. The beauty of it is being able to unplug!

Additional Space

Located higher up on the property is a very cool modern Studio Apartment with panoramic views, kitchen and full bath. This unit sleeps two adults with a Queen size fold down "Murphy" bed. It works well for larger groups staying together or just a couple's romantic getaway. Sunset toasts and morning coffee are favorite activities on the deck. Inquire about The Studio Apt if addition extra space is needed for your family or friends...

Guest access

Guests will have complete access to the house as well as the surrounding grounds and yard of 7 acres. There is an old road going up the mountain behind the home

for a beautiful walk. We are located at the top of Listenberry Mtn, NC. There is a yard swing & fire pit for nightly bonfires.

Interaction with guests

We generally will be available for assistance on most weekends and are very responsive to your requests for directions, recommendations, etc.

The neighborhood

The neighborhood is quiet and the closet neighbor cannot be seen in summer and is partially blocked in winter from hemlock trees. It's private. There is a Studio apt. mentioned above on the property. We try not to book both properties at the same time unless for the same large party. At times we may be in the Studio but can discuss this per your booking. We are east to get along with and communicate well. We strive to make your stay the best experience and meet your expectations for your vacation.

Getting around

We are 20 miles in all directions from a town, so it's best to plan on groceries before you arrive. However, there is a convenience store about 1 mile away for basics. This is what we love best about the house, it's a true getaway. Day trips are fun in all seasons. Our favorites are Asheville, Morganton & The Blue Ridge Parkway. All are just a short drive. Hiking opportunities abound in the NC Game Lands and South Mtn State Park.

Other things to note

We have a winding half mile driveway that is steep in areas, it's easiest to navigate with a front wheel drive or all wheel drive vehicle. (Especially if you are going to use a rental car--ask for one) The first time up the drive is your biggest adventure, afterward, it becomes second nature.

Inspiring and restorative

  • 5 of 5

I found my time at Jim and Debbie's to be very special, reflective, and restorative to my soul. I can see how the mountain house ( which is just beautiful in its every detail but the setting/scenery takes the cake) could be a great get away for couples, retreat groups, adventure enthusiasts... For us it was a family stay. Jim and Debbie ( the owners) are special, caring, go-the-extra-mile people and it shows in the details of the home and their manner with guests. My kids and I won't forget our time on Listenberry Mountain and I truly hope we'll be able to visit again. In any season, the home and setting is rich. The quiet and the beauty were restorative , clarifying, and inspirational. I'd recommend this stay to artists, writers, and soul searchers:)

Fantastic Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We we're lucky enough to stay in this beautiful mountain house! The location is absolutely gorgeous! Every window has a beautiful view, but the upstairs bedroom windows were my favorite! Waking up to the breathtaking mountain scene was so peaceful. The house could not be more comfortable! It is so cozy and charming! Everything is spotlessly clean and the decor is fabulous! It's the perfect setting for a great getaway. You will not be disappointed if you book with Deb & Jim!

Quiet, beautiful & well organized

  • 5 of 5

We had the most relaxing stay here. The home was prefect for a weekend getaway in the mountains. Everything was very well accommodated for us and the decor is so perfectly "mountain chic." We will definitely be coming back!

What more could you ask for? Nothing.

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I, 4 year old son, sister, and 2 nephews (7 & 11), stayed at Jim and Deb's cabin the week after Christmas. They decorated the cabin adorably for the holidays and the small touches were greatly appreciated. The cabin is super cozy and literally has EVERYTHING you need from a super organized kitchen stocked with every pot, pan, dish, utensil, spice, you can think of to the bathrooms, which were fully stocked with plenty of towels and necessities, as well as the abundant amount of firewood for the firepit outside. They also have a binder full of "how to's" for the cabin, as well as one filled with a ton of information on attractions and the local area. We loved how everything was labeled and easily accessible. You can tell Jim and Deb put a lot of thought and effort into making sure their guests are comfortable and happy. The view was beautiful and there was plenty of outdoor space for the boys to run around and play. It was very quiet and extremely relaxing. Jim and Deb's communication was also amazing. We had a few questions along the way and we never had to wait for a response. We also loved and appreciated how easy the check-in and check-out process was. During our search, we noticed that many cabin rentals required us to clean the cabin for the next guests or drive the trash to the local facility. Who really wants to do that while on vacation? We didn't. Their check-out process couldn't have been easier.

Thanks so much Jim & Deb for allowing us to stay at your amazingly accommodating cabin. We look forward to our next stay.

Life long memories at great location.

  • 5 of 5

We rented this cabin for the Christmas holidays to spend time with our family and grandchildren. Every one of our expectations was met and exceeded with this fully loaded property. Jim and Debbie went so far as to put up Christmas decorations that were stunning and set the mood for our three night stay. I fully appreciate the time and energy this took. This rental contributed to a warm and enchanting experience for my family.

Sincerest regards,

Todd Rothman
