Overview

About the property

Three Bedrooms with two full Baths and a loft sleeping area: Sleeps 8 in comfort

In the Foothills of NC, this unique home has three bedrooms, two full baths and a cozy loft with a queen sofa bed. This is a very comfortable and well equipped home. It sits on almost fifty acres of quiet, private land, surrounded by forests; the setting will give you the privacy and quiet you crave. The view from the front porch is of the South Mountain State Park, a great place to sit and rock for awhile. There is no light pollution and on clear nights you can easily see the Milky Way without a telescope. You may want to pack one though. Asheville is only 50 miles, and makes a terrific day trip as does Black Mountain, the Blue Ridge Parkway and Morganton, NC. For horse lovers and spectators the new Tryon International Equestrian Center (TIEC) is only about 30 minutes away. Only one hour and fifteen minutes from Charlotte, this home makes a perfect weekend retreat from city life.

Phones

There is a land line for receiving calls and making local calls to include 911 service. Cell phone coverage depends on your carrier. Options are to use popular phone apps for calls. The beauty of it is being able to unplug!

Additional Space

Located higher up on the property is a very cool modern Studio Apartment with panoramic views, kitchen and full bath. This unit sleeps two adults with a Queen size fold down "Murphy" bed. It works well for larger groups staying together or just a couple's romantic getaway. Sunset toasts and morning coffee are favorite activities on the deck. Inquire about The Studio Apt if addition extra space is needed for your family or friends...

Guest access

Guests will have complete access to the house as well as the surrounding grounds and yard of 7 acres. There is an old road going up the mountain behind the home

for a beautiful walk. We are located at the top of Listenberry Mtn, NC. There is a yard swing & fire pit for nightly bonfires.

Interaction with guests

We generally will be available for assistance on most weekends and are very responsive to your requests for directions, recommendations, etc.

The neighborhood

The neighborhood is quiet and the closet neighbor cannot be seen in summer and is partially blocked in winter from hemlock trees. It's private. There is a Studio apt. mentioned above on the property. We try not to book both properties at the same time unless for the same large party. At times we may be in the Studio but can discuss this per your booking. We are east to get along with and communicate well. We strive to make your stay the best experience and meet your expectations for your vacation.

Getting around

We are 20 miles in all directions from a town, so it's best to plan on groceries before you arrive. However, there is a convenience store about 1 mile away for basics. This is what we love best about the house, it's a true getaway. Day trips are fun in all seasons. Our favorites are Asheville, Morganton & The Blue Ridge Parkway. All are just a short drive. Hiking opportunities abound in the NC Game Lands and South Mtn State Park.

Other things to note

We have a winding half mile driveway that is steep in areas, it's easiest to navigate with a front wheel drive or all wheel drive vehicle. (Especially if you are going to use a rental car--ask for one) The first time up the drive is your biggest adventure, afterward, it becomes second nature.

Our home away from home! <3

  • 5 of 5

My family and I stayed here just a couple of days and easily fell in love with it. So cozy and such a beautiful view of the mountains! It is literally a home away from home with anything and everything you may need...from comfy blankets to much needed time in a hammock. In addition, we took a short drive to the welcoming small town of Morganton and also found some local hiking trails to a beautiful waterfall.

The owners are also so friendly and sweet! Thank you Jim and Debbie for a wonderful weekend! :)

Beautiful, clean, and had EVERYTHING

  • 5 of 5

My parents came in from Oklahoma and met myself, my husband, and our 3 kids at the Mountain house. It was beautiful and the fall colors were perfect. We hiked up the road, we drove and then hiked to the waterfall, we napped in the hammock, and we cooked an early thanksgiving dinner. WiFi was good enough for one device to stream, we were able to watch an OU game we were afraid we’d miss.

They have thought of everything. We had everything we could possibly need for our early thanksgiving feast. So many VrBos only have a few pots and pans and not enough forks or other utensils!. I swear there are more appliances and utensils in this house than I would hAve had in my own.

There was a nice basket with a few gifts as well as the pantry stocked with staples: ketchup, syrup, mayo, etc. there was even fresh coffee, sweeteners and half and half!

The couch beds had comfy mattress covers on them and everyone found them comfy.

The House was spotless and tidy and beautifully decorated. Maybe a little too beautifully decorated for our 3 year old! If you’re bringing Little’s, I’d recommend putting some of the Knick knacks on a high shelf! We did so so we could have some peace of mind. My mom said she was sure that they had to have hired a top knotch interior decorator.

They have tons of comfy blankets and pillows and instructions on where to find them all.

Bring DVDs for the kids! There weren’t many that the kids were interested in!

We live on a busy road in Charlotte, and all of our kids couldn’t sleep because of how quiet it was! This is definitely a positive thing, but maybe something you want to think of before you come! We downloaded white noise apps and they worked perfectly.

The bathrooms were clean and stocked with fluffy towels and extra toothbrushes and other staples.

Don’t be afraid of the driveway, I read other reviews so i was concerned, but we have a station wagon, low to the ground and it was easy peasy.

It was just wonderful. You don’t need to look anywhere else!

Perfect place to relax and reconnect with family.

  • 5 of 5

The Moutain House is a beautiful cabin nestled down in a quiet spot. Debbie has created a warm and cozy place that makes you feel right at home. We had our daughter’s wedding in the front yard with just immediate family attending. The small hardwoods provided the perfect fall background for a beautiful wedding. We enjoyed the time spent with family each night sitting around the fire pit and enjoying the stars.

If you are in the area The Moutain House is the place to stay. Beautiful wood details, furniture, and pictures throughout the house. They have a lovely home that is very clean and well stocked with everything that you could need for your stay.

Wonderful stay

  • 5 of 5

It was totally very nice experience. We stayed this cabin in September beginning. When we arrived everything was ready for relaxed stay. Owner left welcome gift with a note. Nothing to bother about kitchen utensils, some cooking stuffs, bath needs etc. Surrounding was very peaceful. We enjoyed the time spending around deck backside, porch. Cabin was not outdated equipped with WiFi, phone, roku, music and TV channels.

Nice once you got there

  • 4 of 5

Very nice quiet and private house ,I think that renters should atviesed about the challenging one lane wide road going up to house one section I spun tires for over 500 ft wondering if I would make it to the top of hill I was in a rented F150 truck .Glad I didn't have to put personal car through climbing this hill .
