Hurricane Irma Update - Rebuilding is complete and we are open for business!
This 3 bed/3 bath Villa is all yours (NOT SHARED) and is very quiet and PRIVATE. You will have your own POOL, THE BEST BEACH and your own KAYAKS (we even give you SNORKEL GEAR)! From the villa, you with have breathtaking VIEWS of the Caribbean Sea, Lambert Beach and Guana Island Resort off in the distance. The villa is minutes away from Tortola's 7 other beaches, great restaurants and beach bars.
At Gryphon’s Lair overlooking Lambert Beach, you will be hypnotized by the two most soothing sounds in the tropics—the breath of the sea and the chatter of wind through palm leaves. The view from Gryphon’s Lair across the wind-patterned sea to Guana Island will leave you feeling spellbound by the sensations surrounding you. Each lapping wave and rustling breeze will send you deeper into a calm trance enhanced by the visual pleasures of pink oleander, red hibiscus, golden butterflies, periwinkle skies, white clouds, multicolored sailboats and turquoise waters.
The same sights and sounds can be experienced from different settings on the property— balconies with white railings; ceramic-tiled patios; and an open-air, covered breezeway that operates as the nucleus of the home. The breezeway, overlooking Lambert beach and Guana Island, connects the two buildings, the balconies, the outdoor cooking deck and the in ground pool. In addition, the breezeway also features a beautiful teak dining table with seating for 10. Behind the breezeway extends a large wooden deck accommodating a new outdoor shower area allowing sweeping views of the Caribbean Sea while cooling off with a tropical rain shower. There is also a new Weber grill for outdoor cooking on this deck. Don't feel like cooking? No problem, there are several great restaurants within a 5 minute drive including: Calita's Turtle Bay at Lambert Beach (beachfront dining under the palm trees), The Tamarind Club at Josiah's Beach and Brandywine, consistently rated #1 in the BVI each year.
While the home faces the sea, it is protected by the surrounding hillsides, so outdoor areas remain comfortable year-round. The ebullient flow of light and breeze through the main house originates from the exquisite, hardwood floor-to-ceiling windows and doors imported from Dominica that open to the sea-facing balcony and open breezeway. The great room includes a newly remodeled kitchen, indoor dining area and living room with a couch and chair for relaxing in front of the television—that is, if you can pull your eyes away from the mesmerizing panorama.
Off the great room, a bedroom with a brand new king size bed and the same tongue-and-groove cathedral ceilings also boasts the same view, either from the room or from the intimate adjoining balcony. Past the breezeway and up a few stairs, the balcony shares the view as well and also looks over the property’s in ground pool and deck with 4 new chaise lounge chairs.
Beyond the pool deck, a sunning platform is tucked away between mature fruit trees and the BVI’s trademark granite boulders in a private side lawn. The spacious bedrooms offer new king size beds, white cathedral ceilings, immense storage space, and white-tiled bathrooms with hand-painted cobalt blue designs. The newly painted white ceilings and soothing blue-grey walls add to an overall sense of crisp freshness that pervades the entire property.
The secluded Gryphon’s Lair sits on over a half-acre of land and is a short walk or drive above Lambert Beach Resort and has access to all the amenities of the property—including Tortola’s best and most beautiful beach, the resort’s pool, swim up pool bar (serving a great lunch), restaurant and tennis court. The airport, east side restaurants and shops, and the best surfing beach in the Caribbean are all between five and ten minutes away.
Since taking ownership of this property, we have completed many upgrades including installing new air conditioning in each bedroom, completely renovating the kitchen and installing all new appliances as well as new pots and pans, plates, glassware, utensils etc... We have also added new furniture throughout the villa as well as numerous pieces of artwork by the local artist Isabell Smith, renowned for her art work depicting local island life on Tortola.
Please take a minute to view the attached video which shows the property in greater detail.

Beaches: 1 minute drive (5 minute walk) to Lamberts Beach. Most locals regard this as the most beautiful beach on Tortola with its many palm trees, beautiful sand and "Baths" like boulders in the water, providing excellent snorkeling. Sea turtles nest here each year which is why the owners of Lambert Beach Resort named their restaurant "Calita Restaurant at Turtle Bay". The restaurant is on the beach and will give you fantastic views of the Caribbean sea while you enjoy breakfast, lunch, or dinner. After lunch, go for a " pain killer" at the resorts swim up pool bar.
5 minute drive to Josiah"s Beach (Best beach for surfing on the island) Here you will find a younger crowd and a beach front bar and resturant serving good food, cold beer and tropical drinks
5 minute drive to the islands best kept secret, Little Bay. Here you will most likely have the beach all to yourself and you will be in awe of the beauty of the cove shaped beach with soft white sand and gin clear water
10 minute drive to Long Bay (Beautiful beach) / Trellis Bay / Beef Island and the airport
The North Shore and the more crowded beaches are a short drive away. Close enough for a day of exploring or checking out the party scene at night before returning to the peace and tranquility at your villa.
Just a note: There is no longer cable TV service on Tortola following hurricane Irma so we have installed DISH SAT TV for our guests.
