Lots to do and see - read on: If you head north and inland you’ll come to Competa in 15 minutes, a typically picturesque Pueblo Blanco. Here you’ll find very sophisticated restaurants, cheaper eateries & bars. Meandering streets, which are filled with flowers, hanging from pots throughout the year. This whole district is a far cry from the over commercialised Costa’s.
Our house is only 45 minutes from Malaga airport.
Nerja which is a more active and semi boisterous beach resort is just 30 minutes away from the Villa and has many cosmopolitan attractions to cover most peoples preferences.
The Villa has a lovely peaceful rural setting, where you can truly feel as though you have “got away from it all”. The area, where our house is located, is untouched by traffic as we are tucked into a delightful valley and yet we still have caretakers at hand that are always happy to help out & give advise if needed.
Ahhh - Just Relax!: As well as the pool, which you can laze on the edge of. Arches, a terrace area and sun umbrellas, allow you to be shaded from the sun. This area is also used as the dining quarter, where you can sip your favourite tipple, watch the sun set & gaze as the stars glitter in the clear sky, well into the evening, with the shimmering reflections from the lit pool adding to the magical aura. In the morning wake to the gentle sounds of the sheep bells.
There are a wealth of things for the whole family to do nearby. For kids there are pretty coves as well as 'bucket & spade' beaches (Burriana Beach, at Nerja, is glorious with great Paella restaurants on the beach front!). One of the best Aqua Parks in the area is at Torre del Mar as is Go-Karting, Tennis and the famous Caves of Nerja all within 25 minutes drive. Horse riding & pony trekking can be found near Competa, Torrox and Nerja. Mountain Bikes and Motor Trail Bikes are available for hire to allow you to ride the many quiet tracks & bye ways.
The area is a bird watchers paradise, particularly in the winter months
But, if you are feeling lively, go on!:
For keen golfers there are 2 18-hole golf courses within easy driving distance and skiing in the Sierra Nevada’s is less than 2 hours away. In the winter months you can truly be on the beach or reclining by the pool sun tanning one day and enjoy skiing or snow boarding the next.
Sight seeing: In addition to Competa there are many other Moorish Pueblo Blancos nearby, just waiting to be explored. Don’t miss the village of Frigliana that is a haven for arts and crafts (and a beautiful walk in the deep gorge that is below this village – with great picnic and barbeque areas – an easy walk for all abilities with stunning surroundings and a babbling brook, even in the height of summer).
Granada & the Alhambra Palace are one and a half hour's drive and are a must to savour the delights of the ancient Moors. For those who enjoy the great out doors there are some spectacular walks in the Sierra Tejeda and Almijara Natural Park, which are on the doorstep. Contact us for more tips & info.
Here are some of our recent visitors reviews:
January 16 2017 Keith & Jayne, romantic winter break: We stayed in this lovely villa in mid January, it was everything we was looking for , quiet and cosy. We had lovely sunshine during the day and where it turned chilly in the evening we would light the fire using the pine cones we collected on our trips out. The owners even helped me arrange a birthday surprise by booking a lovely restaurant in competa ( el pampano which was amazing ) a birthday cake and taxi to and from the villa which we were amazed that it turned up and on time as the villa can be tricky to find but Jenny (caretaker) had been In and sorted it all out , which I feel was above and beyond her normal job and I could not of been more grateful , she had sorted taxi, cake and restaurant (we did leave the card for the taxi in the villa ). You are met by Jenny or Carl who take you to the villa when you arrive and I did think "ohh my lord where are we going " but it is sitting in a lovely valley, I used to sit and watch the goat-hearder on the opposite side of the valley , collect his goats and sheep and take them for there walk up the mountain and hours later he would bring them back, we even started to notice individual ones. The villa was clean and bright and had everything you needed, we would definitely return given the chance. There are lots of maps and information in the villa to help you get around. The only disappointing thing was we couldn't use the pool as the water was far to cold. ( Well it was January ). The sunsets from this villa are amazing to sit and watch with a nice glass of vino in your hand , I would highly recommend it. We didn't get a 4x4 but wished we had , not only for the villa but also for when we were out exploring the area as its beautiful and we did most of the area that Vas the owner had given us the information or recommended we try to go or see. All in all we had a lovely weeks stay and in all honesty we really didn't want to come home.
August 20 2016 Ben P, his wife and 2 older kids: We had a lovely 2 week stay during August. (family of 4 with 2 daughters aged 13 & 11). We arrived after midnight on a Saturday night and were met by Jenny and shown to the villa. Jenny was lovely and nothing was too much trouble. When we awoke the next morning with day light we were able to appreciate the stunning setting. From the villa there are lovely views across the valley which is planted largely with Mangos & advocado bushes. From the pool side I was able to do some bird watching and saw a good variety of birds including hoopoe, turtle dove, blue rock thrush, a flock of bee eaters, and some very big birds of prey flying very high and will remain unidentified. The location of the villa suited us well as it was quiet but still only about a 20 minute drive to the coast and to the lovely town Competa. Vas and Jane provided lots of helpful information and were very quick to come back to us with any query and nothing was too much trouble for their caretakers Jenny & Carl. We would all recommend this villa and would love to go back.
30 July 2016, Simon, Jen B + 3 Children: My wife, three boys and myself have just returned from a scorching week at this villa and ABSOLUTLEY loved it. We were prepared for the narrow, winding road to the villa referred to in other reviews (we hired a juke) and were absolutely gob smacked by the stunning ,serene setting once we arrived (led by Carl from the 'meet and greet' location). You feel like you have reached the end of the earth and there isn't another soul around. Straight away, the boys hit the lovely pool to cool off and splash around with the lilos (provided). Me and the wife went to Torrox to stock up from a nearby Aldi.(20 minutes). The first night we had a lovely BBQ by the pool and soaked in the atmosphere. We then alternated our days between trips out (Competa, Torrox, beach) and kicking back by the pool (which looks great when lit up at night) with a few mellow tunes through the Bluetooth stereo to drink sangria and eat fine Spanish food too! Competa and Torrox are about a 20 minute drive in each direction and thoroughly recommend checking them both out. If you really want to 'get away from everyone' and have a little privacy and quality time with your nearest and dearest, there can't be many places better suited than this villa. Just make sure your Mrs isn't a nervous passenger on winding mountain roads! A big thank you to Vas and Jane for providing plenty of useful information and for Carl on showing us the 'rocky road' to tranquillity! Would love to return!
Our response to Steve's Review:
"WOW - THANK YOU FOR LEAVING SUCH A STUNNING REVIEW!!! And boy, does that phrase - "Rocky road to tranquility" sound like a perfect new soundtrack for a budding band (we wish we could strum some notes together and put it out on Youtube), Vas and Jane"
16 June 2016 TRULY FANTASTIC - Maddy T & Boy Friend: If you're reading this currently sat on the fence about where to book your next holiday, then trust me when I say: 'LOOK NO FURTHER! Your search for the perfect holiday is over!'. Seriously though my partner and I had the BEST time. The villa was jawdroppingly fab, we were totally blown away when we arrived. The owners Vas & Jane sent us loads of helpful info about the villa and surrounding areas before we arrived. Jenny - the caretaker - met us at the meeting point, a short drive from Torrox beach-town. From here she guided us down the track to the villa. It's a little bumpy in places but we'd hired a Jimny which was perfect (we used a car hire recommended by the owners and it was cheap, very quick & easy service, lovely staff too!). Along the track you go past some oth
