Why Robert Johnson chose Downtown
I bought the building with hopes and dreams of redeveloping and restoring as adaptive reuse (mixed use). We are about 75% there with most of the 260,000 SF complex complete. If you like historic buildings and the urban/warehouse experience ... with all the amenities travelers expect today, this is the place for you.

Great secure property with plenty of room to entertain.
Walking distance to restaurants, coffee shops, bars, breweries. Easy to access.
Beautiful Vintage Loft
We are a family of five and have stayed in the lofts several times over the summer. Always top notch!
Overall nice place to stay with some drawbacks
Generally speaking, I would recommend this property to stay in Dubuque, but be aware of a few issues.
Pros: 1) clean, comfortable beds, 2) pet friendly, 3) close to restaurants and river attractions.
Cons: 1) There is a fee for parking that is NOT listed in their ad. One spot comes with the unit. If you have other cars, you either have to park on the street, near a busy gym and restaurant or pay for an additional spot in the building's lot. The owner via VRBO email told me that additional spots were $10/day, but when I arrived and Aaron was showing me to the unit, he informed me that an additional space was $20/day and despite the fact that the owner had told me something different, my friend and I were charged $20/day.
2) The parking is pretty far away from the unit, so you have to carry your things quite a ways. I had to make two trips and did not bring a wheeled suitcase because I didn't realize this. I could handle it, but please be aware if you are older or have difficulty carrying things. I was not told there were carts or anything that would have made this easier.
3) There is karaoke on Tuesday night at one of the bars from 6-10pm and you can hear every note. I could also hear the TV of the person that lived downstairs.
4) The air was not turned on in the unit when I arrived, so it was 83 degrees in there. I later found that some of the windows had been left open.
5) The shower in the bathroom closest to the front door shoots out brown water for a second when you first turn it on and the tub drains VERY slowly.
Fabulous place for family, close to fun!
We enjoyed Mothers Day weekend in this fabulous unit. The 4th floor view gave us a nice look out over the rooftop at the city. Nicely appointed and very accessible - wheelchair access is always a concern for us and this place has no barriers. If you are looking for a great place for the family to meet and feel comfortable, you have to check out this renovated apartment in the ole iron works building. Best part, all the great new bars, pubs, and eaterys in the building or within walking distance. Have fun!
We came in to town to spend time with our college student. This River City loft was perfect for our needs! We grabbed him , all the necessities we needed at the store and came back to the loft. Made him a home-cooked meal and relaxed! The location was awesome! Within walking distance to great restaurants, little coffee shops, farmers market, etc... And not far from the aquarium, museum, casino, etc. The loft was was clean, spacious and has a great urban vibe. There is construction at the site as they are continuing to expand but we were never bothered by it. My son loved it, he was able to get off campus, kick back, eat something besides caf food, do his laundry and just enjoy... in a cool atmosphere! Looking forward to coming back!
A nice place, just be aware of the size of the beds
My family enjoyed staying at this loft. The place was clean and the area is up and coming. In a short period of time this area may be the best area to stay in Dubuque. There are a couple of nice places to eat nearby.
The only issue we had was that in the description of the loft it said there was a king sized bed. This turned out to be untrue. I contacted the owner about it and never heard back. It ended up not being a big deal because the beds were very comfortable, but I felt it is important that anyone who wants to stay here should know that.
