About Jamie Molony
We are both long time Charletonains. Jacquelin was born in Charleston. Bill came to town in college to teach the children sailing. After a summer romance we married and raised 3 children. In time we continue the sailing odyssey and took our family across the Atlantic in our sailboat. We are "old" (married 50 years if that tells you). We have travelled a lot. We discovered VRBO in Europe and realized it's the best way to go. Upon returning from our 17 year sailboat journey, and having spent time in a number of vrbos (verbo they want us to say), we were happy to become host instead of guest. We always preferred to stay in a place that was "in town", close to the action, walkable. But we also cared about being in a place where the host shows they cared about style and design.
Jamie Molony purchased this Apartment in 1996
Why Jamie Molony chose Downtown Charleston
St Philip Square is ideally located one block from King St full of shops, award winning restaurants, lively bars and historic buildings. It is in the short term overlay where guests can rent a space for a weekend instead of a month without the owner present. These properties have won the Carolopolis Award for historic preservation from the prestigious Preservation Society. They have character, charm and historic worth. St Philip Square uniquely offers 8 properties within a "square" that opens onto a shared parking area. Each apartment is a separate unit and has its own qualities. It is the perfect opportunity for groups of all sizes to organize a joint rental but each apartment is separate and its own place. The VRBO numbers are listed here: 1446527. 1531369. 1351757. 1662029. 834186. 7841346. 7841344. 567555 If you put these numbers into a VRBO search without dates you will be able to view each listing.
What makes this Apartment unique
This apartment is the flagship of St Philip Square. The entire complex is a fabulous collection of historic properties that offer high end, well appointed, attractive and comfortable accommodations. Because we have such a diverse group of unique properties we can offer the perfect setting for a small family, a big group of friends, a family reunion, a wedding party (the whole wedding party) a business retreat. This particular apartment has designed with "hospitality" in mind. We have a lovely typical Charleston living room with fireplace and mantel with grand windows overlooking the huge front porch. The other room on the front porch is an attractive library with sofa sleeper and beautiful bathroom. The entrance to the porch is between the rooms with a lovely bar in between (refrigerator, marble counter, bar glassware). The porch, the two living rooms, and the bar create a fabulous "hospitality" space with sleeping in the beautiful bedrooms in the back. The apartment can accommodate the parents, the bridesmaids, groomsmen, grandparents. You would chose this apartment if you were hosting. If you want to be in a pretty place. If you want new, modern kitchen and bathrooms in an historic Charleston house. If you want to experience Charleston charm on the gorgeous front porch overlooking rooftops and treetops. If you want a little back balcony with steps leading to the outside. If you want to walk a block or two south, north, east or west to a great restaurant , a fun bar, a unique shop. Or if you want to park your car and leave it. Or if you want to park your car and have it right by your side when you want to go to a beach or a plantation.
100% refund if canceled at least 60 days before arrival date.
We are located in historic Cannonborough in the upper King St area. We have renovated 6 historic buildings known as St Philip Square and are in the process of opening them to short term rental. They make an ideal setting for family weddings and reunions or business retreats where people can all be together but be in separate, charming, comfortable spaces without the sterility and confinement of a hotel.
Charleston is already well known as a destination for weddings and general touring. The lower peninsula ("South of Broad" is the more sedate and exclusive area and is very limited for short term rental. Our area has become the most vibrant part of town loaded with restaurants (Stellas, The Ordinary, The Grocery, The Darling Oyster, Goulette), bars, shops (West Elm, Filigre), spas along with museums and house museums (Charleston Museum, Children's Museum, The Aquarium, Maingault House Museuma0.
Short term rentals without the owner present are legal here and have made this area particularly popular.
We are also close to interstate access so all the beaches are 20-40 minutes away. Sullivans Island, Isle of Palms, Folly Beach, Kiawah Island, Wadmalaw Island, Drayton Hall, Middleton Place and Magnolia Plantation, and Charles Town Landing are all accessible and worth a visit.
A walk to the "South of Broad" area can be done in 30 minutes without stopping. But of course you can pick any street (King, Legare, Church, Meeting, East Bay) to take you there and find amazing houses and beautiful gardens, art shops and boutiques along the way and you will take a lot longer than 30 minutes to get there.
