Residing in the heart of the Lower Garden District, this historic Greek Revival townhouse built in 1855 and located on Famous Magazine Street is easy walking distance to award-winning restaurants, famous antique shopping, The National WWII Museum, Coliseum Square Park and the New Second Line Movie Studios. The St. Charles Streetcar line and the Convention Center are just a few blocks away. Less than 5 minutes to the French Quarter.

Beautiful antique furnished historic apartment feels more like a private home. New renovation owned and decorated by published designer. Comprising the entire first floor of this 1855 Greek Revival townhouse (1,200 sq ft.), it is luxuriously large. Historic architectural features include 12 ft ceilings, decorative elements, large doors, large windows, exposed brick, wood long plank floors. Open kitchen and living room arrangement comfortably accommodates a large group. This apartment includes its own private shaded courtyard. Two bedrooms (inline) with comfortable queen beds in each and two full bathrooms. The slipcover sofa in the living room also converts to a queen size bed and can sleep two additional people. Rear bedroom includes its own kitchenette. Amenities include two plasma televisions, washer/dryer, all linens and towels. blow dryers, irons, coffee maker, and kitchen is stocked with all utensils, pots and pans you might need. Luxury historic and modern features incorporated throughout. Decorated with a combination of excellent period French and American antiques, original artwork and modern design pieces.

Close to everything, take a stroll amid the crepe myrtles and live oak trees in this wonderful, eclectic neighborhood abundant in architectural treasures. Location is everything thing and with this apartment you do not need a car. This apartment is located on the bus route and 3 blocks from the St. Charles Streetcar line.

The apartment was very comfortable and we had a great vacation stay. It had the true "New Orleans" feel with its decor, patio and brick walls. The location was safe, convenient and always had parking. We were in walking distance of restaurants, a park and bars. We would definitely stay there again and the owners were always available for any questions or concerns. What more can you ask?

Great location

The location was great, easy access to food, shopping, nightlife. The down side:I wish I had known that the first bedroom is literally the hallway between the kitchen and the second bedroom.

Beautiful, historic and HUGE! Amazing location.

Really fantastic place and all we had hoped for. Wonderful location for getting anywhere and so close to the warehouse district and the French Quarter while staying in a real walkable neighborhood with tons of shopping and restaurants (yay French Truck Coffee!) on Magazine all right there on the street. Nice old park just one block away and tons of things to see. Our host had a ridiculously well researched list of the greatest places to eat and drink and was very quick to answer any questions with local knowledge. Could not have found a better base to launch our daily quests. We will definitely return.

Close to being a perfect place

My friend & I stayed here for 3 nights. There is so much good about this place, & we wanted to love it. Despite many positives, we can't recommend it.

The good:

-Jules, the owner/operator, is great. She sent a list of restaurants before we arrived. During our stay we had a minor snafu, and she was very responsive. She was very accommodating, letting us stay a couple hours past checkout because of a flight time. Getting into the house was easy, & it was clean when we arrived.

-Location is awesome. Close enough to coffee & restaurants, but far enough from the action to be quiet. Always had parking right in front. Just a few minutes drive to the French Quarter and Garden District. Easy 3-block walk to a Street Car stop.

-The house is nice in many ways. The furnishings are eclectic, some feel authentic to the age of the house. Gorgeous wood floors, spacious high ceilings, and a private outdoor patio.

The not-so-good:

-The bathrooms. They are renovated, but borderline un-usable. Neither of them has a dedicated shower. The shower in the front bathroom is a curtained off corner with no tub/surround, just a shower head coming out of the wall. The back bathroom has an aluminum frame and shower curtain hanging from the ceiling between the toilet and the sink, with a shower head in the ceiling. When the curtain is pulled, the size of the 'shower' is smaller than a phone booth (kids, ask your parents). In both bathrooms, the entire floor gets wet after the shower is used - one bathroom floor is slick polished concrete, the other is very uncomfortable pebble floor. The back bathroom also has no counter space around the sink, & the only place to put shower toiletries is a hole in the wall where a brick was removed.

-Despite having 2 bedrooms, there is little to no privacy. Access to the back bedroom goes through the front bedroom with no hallway. 2 couples would not be able to stay here, it would be way too awkward. I had to text my friend every morning to make sure she was dressed before I left my room.

-It lacked what I would consider the usual amenities. A Keurig machine with a few k-cups for morning coffee would be nice; a hotel at the same price would certainly provide the same. The couch was just okay, & there was only seating for 4 people. The dryer didn't work when we wanted to use it to get some wrinkles out of our clothes.

There are many things we loved about the house, it's just one renovation away from being perfect.

Better than we could have hoped for

This place is awesome. We took our 16 and 12 year olds to NOLA for spring break and even they were impressed! Close to the WW2 museum - which is a must - and an easy drive to the French Qtr and an easy walk or drive to the shops of Magazine Street. The apt is clean and more spacious than the online pics look. The neighborhood is filled with locals walking and running with their dogs - wish we had brought ours - felt extremely safe. Jules and her husband were responsive and helpful and overly gracious hosts. We will stay here again when we return! Thanks Jules!

FYI the only reason we rated this place a 4 star is because it is not beach front! Seriously, you should stay here...

If we had seen it first, we ould have kept looking, especially at THAT price.

The location was as represented, the house Interior lacked many basics and was in pretty bad shape. the inside washer and dryer did not work the living room TV didn't work, no bath soap, no Kleenexes', no warm blankets, every day amnesties were lacking...the second bath floor was always wet and handicap faculities or safe guards was not accessible..perhaps this is a work in progress .

Owner's Response: Vive la différence! If we had only met this traveler prior to her arriving and understood her clear necessity for handicapped accessible housing- we would have recommended a full service commercial hotel with an elevator, valet, and curb-less showers with rails and fall guards. We are always very quick to respond to any of our guests questions or needs and try our very best to accommodate special requests whenever we can. I'm sorry we were not able to fully satisfy this guest in every way that she needed. We are a fully restored 1855 Townhouse tastefully decorated with good antiques and comfortable furniture EXACTLY LIKE THE PHOTOS. It is NOT however, a Best Western, Holiday Inn or retirement home which seems to be more the standard for a person who needs to be provided "kleenexes", "warm?" blankets or "handicap facility safeguards". Regarding our guests "complaints": The washer and dryer are basic models, with simple well labeled knobs, and each television has a single simple remote control. (Unfortunately our guest was not able to grasp the usage of either, even after two demonstrations) Every bed (of course) has blankets and there are additional ones in the French armoire and linen closet. The second bath "floor" is wet because IT IS A SHOWER. We do not provide toiletries but do provide soap. Regarding accessibility, the apartment is a single level, however, there are three steps up from the sidewalk to the front door and as such, unfortunately, this apartment is not wheelchair accessible. (nor do we advertise that we are) We wish this guest many more happy vacations, and recommend that in the future, she consider a hotel where she might receive the more personal service she requires while away from her home.

Hidden gem on Magazine Street!

We loved this property! It was close enough to walk to several breakfast and lunch spots while also being a quick and inexpensive Uber ride to dinner and entertainment. Quiet neighborhood at night also made it perfect to get some much needed rest, unlike some of the uptown hotels. The owner was super responsive and attentive to our questions and needs. We will be back!
