Why Mike Grishman chose Mid-City

Property is centrally located in Mid City, just 2 miles from downtown and the French Quarter. There is plenty to do in MidCity/Bayou St John/City Park area.

Nearby there are many great food options to chose from. Some of my favorites in the immediate neighborhood are:

Mandina's(creole, New Orleans)

Liuzzas(creole/New Orleans),

Venezia(Italian)

Katie's(New Orleans)

MoPho(Vietnamese/Pho)

Parkway Bakery and Tavern (best poboys)

Bars/Pubs nearby the house:

Bulldog Midcity has something like 40 beers on tap

Bayou Beer Garden has an excellent selection (probably 40 as well) and is a short 3-5 minute walk from the house.

Beignets: Morning Call is 24 hour coffee and beignets in City Park, which hosts the New Orleans Museum of Art, City Putt (putt putt golf) and a frisbee golf course.

Guestbook comments from the owner

VRBO owners beware when renting to the Elsons. We booked the Elsons several months ago and they requested we book an off-line transaction to save them money. The property was left in deplorable condition by people who did not clean up after themselves or have any decency whatsoever. There was mud all over the floors and carpets and the house was left rougher and more used than with a typical guest(s). When our next guest checked in, it was brought to our attention there was a plumbing issue. A plumber found baby wipes and a number of other "items" that had been flushed down the toilet. The Elson's denied this as well, TYPICAL. $2700 later this issue has been resolved. This blatant disregard for other people's property is appalling, as we have never had someone treat our property like these people did.

As for the other items mentioned, the AC is brand new in the property and blows hard in the house. The temperature easily gets below 68 in every bedroom plus there are fans in each bedroom, so this "complaint" is completely unfounded and untrue, and frankly, an outright lie. There are no leaks in the windows or doors (the house is brand new) as we contacted our handyman to check and he indicated there were no issues, so this complaint is completely untrue.

As for the items that were missing, we have provided the basics and continue to add items+furniture as we receive constructive feedback from guests. We are coffee drinkers, we have a coffee maker. The house sleeps 6, so 6 setups are provided, simple concept, I don't understand this "complaint". Salad bowls, kitchen towels, foil, bags, wine key, "tea spoons", towel racks, sponges, salt, pepper are all provided, another lie. Also, what does a kitchen junk drawer have to do with your stay? How does that negatively affect you? IT DOES'N'T. Most guests come to New Orleans to enjoy the best food and music the city has to offer, not to sit in the house and complain there Is no teapot or that the dishes had to be done daily(guess they just do dishes once a week where they're from, GROSS). We take our role as hosts very seriously and are very responsive to requests from guests via email and phone. We will continue to improve our property over time, and hopefully Mr. Elson, his wife and family/friends who stayed with us in March of 2016 can become better and nicer people and enjoy life rather than spread untruths about hard working people and their property.

WHY SO MANY UNTRUTHS?

Spacious and close to the street car line

  • 4 of 5

This a great house with lots of room for several people to stay together. It has all the amenities and is super comfortable. It's in a good location, very near the street car line for easy access to downtown, but far enough away it is quite easy to drive around to other areas outside of New Orleans. It is a generally quiet neighborhood and close to a Whole Foods. However, and this is our only complaint, two of the five nights we stayed the next door neighbors played really loud music and were having a grand time late into the evening, making it impossible to sleep.

Fantastic location!

  • 5 of 5

My family loves renting this house when we need to be in Mid City. The beds are extremely comfortable and the house had all the basics like towels, kitchen supplies, paper towels, etc. The parking was very easy and the house is convienent to a lot of restaurants within walking distance! Also only 1 block to the Canal street car line! We love staying here and always look forward to coming back.

Excellent Renovation, However!

  • 4 of 5

When we drove up we were semi concerned with all the activity next door, however it turned out to be just another renovation underway. There are several newly renovated homes in the area and looks to be a location that is up and coming but hasn't became trendy yet... So don't be alarmed, we didn't have any security problems. Overall the neighbors were friendly and spoke. Initially we didn't have any parking issues, however if you leave and come back in the evening you may have to search a bit, but nothing to far away.

As far as the house, it was really just basics. A few cups left over from other guests but other than that nothing. Normally when you stay at a long term hotel/home (we stayed 4 nights) there are certain things you expect, however, this was not that! Yes, there were utensils, plates, cups and so forth but that was it.... No dishwashing liquid, no dishwasher soap, no paper towels, no seasonings not even salt and pepper... they did supply dish cloths, but with 5 people in the house that didn't stay helpful very long. However my largest complaint was that the showers didn't seem to be cleaned, which would have been a quick fix but there weren't any cleaning products... anywhere... at all, which I found strange..... I would suggest that you have a serious talk with whoever you have cleaning the house and let them know to keep these items stocked, and if it doesn't spoil i.e. seasonings, butter... Leave it in the house for the next person.... Makes life a whole lot easier.

I know this may not sound like a rave review but we had a GREAT time and the stuff that was missing from the house didn't make or break our vacation. I'd seen other reviews that were similar and I really hope that the owners take this into consideration.

Owner's Response: Hi Saida, I wish you had let us know about your concerns and we could have addressed them ASAP. We do stock some basic items and re-up on a regular basis, but if the guest before used/takes the salt and the pepper, the current guest may be without. We will try and do better here. As for the items you said were not present, such as lack of cleaning products in the house, a quick email or phone call could have resolved these small, yet important, issues as we have these items in the house. I am glad you had a great trip to New Orleans and hope you come back and visit soon. Best David and Michael

Great house and location

  • 4 of 5

Spent a great 5 nights in NOLA. The house was beautifully remodeled, very comfortable, and was in a great location. It was an easy streetcar ride or Uber ride downtown. The bathrooms could have been a bit more clean, but otherwise the house was awesome and we'd definitely stay there again. Thanks for a great trip.

Willie Mae's Scotch House(best fried chicken ever, get there when it opens)

Drago's at Hilton Riverside for charbroiled oysters

Jacques Imos is excellent New Orleans fare (reservation highly recommended)

I can also provide restaurant recommendations for any taste of price point, just ask.

Riverwalk/Aquarium/IMAX of Americas is cool to check out on a nice day. You can take the streetcar downtown from orleans and Carrollton for $1.50 www.norta.com

There are a ton of bars on Bourbon St, but a 2 of my favorite in the warehouse district are Barcadia, a pretty cool bar on Tchoupitoulas in the warehouse district, fun for all ages, old video games, pinball etc. and Lucy's Retired Surfer Bar a few blocks down from Barcadia.
