For over 115 years The Reata River Ranch has been an institution in the Texas Hill Country. Settled in 1897 by C.P. Gray, who purchased the land with “saddlebags filled with gold” this family-owned guest ranch is now one of Central Texas' finest Family Reunion destinations.
Situated on 3000 acres, the Reata River Ranch offers miles of private river frontage, spectacular vistas of the Texas Hill Country and first class accommodations. Each of our cabins provide all the modern comforts your large group will need to create the vacation of a lifetime. You'll have the chance to enjoy horseback riding, river sports and target practice all under the umbrella and our long-held tradition of Texas hospitality. If you have ever wanted the freedom to explore miles of live oak savannahs, tube down the clear waters of the San Saba River, or kick up your heals on your own personal home on the range, then the Reata River Ranch is your perfect Western getaway.
Accommodations on the Ranch:
Choose from 4 authentically restored and luxuriously appointed historic Texas homes - some dating back to the 1890’s. All cabins are air-conditioned with WiFi.
I & II. River Lodge East and West - The two river lodges represent the central headquarters of the Reata River Ranch. Built in 2005 these two stone cabins are mirror images of each other, facing the San Saba River valley. Complete with two large living rooms, two kitchens, 6 total bedrooms and a large outdoor fire pit the river lodge offers a spectacular hilltop panorama and covered dining area with views of 30 acres of groomed pastureland. Great for wildlife viewing. Together these two lodges sleep 16 guests.
IV. TV's Hilton - Located beside Nettie's Nest, this one bedroom rock house, also built in the nineteenth century, features two single beds and a private bathroom.
V. Nettie’s Nest - This cozy stone cabin is one that historians will adore. Named for the Ranch Matriarch Nettie, wife of C.P Gray, this one bedroom limestone cabin is a couples perfect getaway. Features one bedroom, one bathroom, and a romantic stone fireplace - this is Texas history at its finest, perfect for two guests.

The ranch consists of 3000 rolling acres with Live Oak Savannahs, open grasslands, high views and natural springs flowing down limestone canyons. During your stay you will see Texas Longhorn cattle, quarter horses, abundant wildlife and one of the most beautiful stretches of the San Saba River anywhere. The river runs year round and varies between quick-moving rapids to slow, open water fishing holes.
Along the San Saba River guests are invited to enjoy the 25 acre manicured greenway, the perfect spot for families to play football, frisbee, and volleyball, or to hold an old fashioned picnic, or roast marshmallows in the fire pit.
Guests can enjoy fishing on the banks of the San Saba for a variety of species including Guadalupe bass, largemouth bass, catfish, carp, and gar. There are over two miles of private river frontage, deep limestone canyons to explore on foot, and over 5 miles of private trails for ATV’s or high clearance vehicles.
It is important for our guests to know that this is a working ranch, with miles of ranch roads. We make every effort to maintain them well; however, weather is always a factor that we cannot control. It is highly recommended that guests arrive in SUVs or pickup trucks if possible. If not do as the owners do...when guests arrive in a luxury car/street car, then those vehicles are parked at the front of the ranch inside the gate and someone meets them for the ride to the lodging.
Just two hours West of Austin in the rolling hills of McCulloch County, the Ranch is located between the towns of Brady and Menard in the very heart of Texas. The gate to the ranch is located just 6 minutes from the nearest grocery store and local restaurants.
Amenities and Activities:
This property is a private and exclusive rental, meaning that you will have the entire 3000 acres to yourselves. The ranch is available for only a set number of large family reunions/groups each year and we take pride and serving the unique needs of every one.
At the Reata River Ranch we like to tell our guests, "This is your home on the range.” Here you can gather among your loved ones and cast aside the stresses of everyday life, take a stroll down to our deep run of the San Saba River, explore a canyon, or ride a horse. Whatever you do we'd like to invite you to breathe in some of our fresh country air along the way. If these hills could talk, you'd hear the sounds of song and laughter and the romance of the Old West ringing across the pastures.
