Hi Kathie and mark , first of all I want apologize for the delay in our review. Your place was great
Mom and I really enjoyed our stay at your cottage. It was really cozy and convenient for mom with her wheelchair. Your location is great and made it easy to go either towards town or to hanamau bay and makapuu or to our family in waimanalo.. I would recommend your place to others for future visitors.. mahalo for your assistance in getting our medical equipment picked up.. God bless you.. and mahalo nui loa.. a hui ho from Monique and Malawaina.
A piece of Paradise for returning locals!
Wonderful place to stay. Nice and clean in a neighborhood with a great location. Kathy greeted me like an old friend and she and her husband were friendly helpful hosts. I never used the AC because there were wonderful balmy breezes thru the windows so the ceiling fan was all I needed to feel the welcoming warmth. You could hear the neighbors and Kathy and her family talking occasionally, but it reminded me of growing up where you could hear the families around you. I was more concerned of making too much noise because I know voices carry thru the windows...but it was so peaceful and quiet every night. It’s a great little neighborhood feel. The birds and the rustling leaves woke me every morning. The room was very spacious and the two of us had plenty of space. The pictures is what it looks like! I liked it so much I have reservations for 2 more stays already booked!
Best Place to Stay in Honolulu
As a former local or resident of Honolulu and someone who has stayed at many places in Hawaii, I can say this is definitely the best VRBO for a visit to Oahu. It is well appointed, with everything you need, from a kitchen and nice shower to a small private garden and thoughtful amenities (including farm fresh eggs, beach chairs and towels, and welcome chocolates). The guest suite is just off of Kalaniole Highway, and two minutes from a gorgeous beach that I sat at and walked many mornings. If you want to get into town, it's 10 minutes since the main freeway is conveniently close.
But you really don't have to go into downtown or Waikiki because all the great shopping (Long's, Safeway, Costco) and restaurants (Kona Brewery, Roy's) are right there. World famous Hanauma Bay is maybe 5 miles away, allowing for an early morning visit without any crowds. From there it's an easy drive going north, to see the Blow Hole and then to Makapuu Beach and finally the North Shore/Haleiwa. In short, it is an incredibly convenient location in a very quiet "local" feeling neighborhood (not a touristy spot) that is safe and near the many lovely beaches without crowds. I needed to go into town several times to visit friends and family, but all of that was easy to do as well.
Kathy, your host, is wonderful and will guide you easily through all the features of her home. I couldn't recommend her and her home more highly. You will have privacy and enjoy the island at your own pace.
Realy nice places, clean, private
If you need a place to stay during your trip in Oahu, if you look for a quiet place with free parking, close to waikiki ... This is the place you need. I strongly recommend it. Quiet, clean, private.
Great location and perfect bungalow!
This is a great place especially if you are looking to stay out of the hustle & bustle of Honolulu. You are close enough to downtown if that’s your thing, but even closer to Hanauma Bay and less touristy beaches. Kathy was a great hostess and gave us all kinds of great ideas on what to do. The full kitchen and free use of some beach necessities were bonuses. Thanks for sharing your great home with us!!
Hawaiian Home Away From Home
Auntie Kathy is amazing, Mark and her have established the perfect location for guest looking to get a dose of what it's like to live on Oahu. They are there if you need anything, and are totally cool with just letting you come and go respectfully and allow you the privacy you're looking for. The space provides you with the ability to peacefully relax, cook on your own with all the kitchen provisions, or just relax outside. Included with your stay they offer you beach towels, cooler, and chairs to chill on the beach. If you're looking to do more there is also a body board, kayak, and snorkeling gear.
But as far as location, this would be your best choice when planning your stay in Hawaii. You will really feel as though it's a home away from home. If you need groceries, a nice meal, a date night, entertainment, or just looking for a place to chill, Hawaii Kai is right there. But really you're at the beginning of a part of the island that offers you a more true side of paradise. I've been to Oahu several times in the past, the first few trips I spent with local friends and family, and the next in a hotel down at Waikiki which ended up not being that true reflection of the island life. This location just allows you the most immediate access to some of the most scenic and adventurous sides of Oahu. You can't go wrong.
Book it! Don't hesitate...
Quiet neighborhood, with Haunama Bay and many activities, shops, and restaurants within a short distance. 15 minutes outside of Waikiki.
