About Gamble Staempfli
Cary and Gamble hail from Vermont and NYC respectively. Our backgrounds / professions are in art/design and horticulture and both of these passions are reflected in our home, which we discovered on Craig's List in 2004 and purchased on a whim. Over a decade later with two children now in tow, our cottage serves as an incredible summer sanctuary and quiet year-round residence. We fell in love with the property for its beauty and seclusion, and have been working ever since to build on it's natural character for our own use, and as an ideal destination for others in search of an authentic Hudson Valley escape.

What makes this Cottage unique
This truly is a secluded hide-away. Our ideal guests are families or groups of friends looking to get out of NYC for a little time away from normal life.

We spent two terrific days at the property. Wonderfully decorated and spacious. We used it as a jumping off point to explore the Hudson Valley. We also spent time at the property enjoying the garden area, swings and hammocks. The house is very clean, cozy and with lots of windows to view the amazing garden that surrounds the entire property. The beds are super comfortable. We are already planning our next visit.
Peaceful, Beautiful Cottage
Our family wanted a peaceful, relaxing place to spend quality time before our son reported to USMA. We were looking for something just far enough to get away, but close enough for convenience. This beautiful cottage with surrounded by flowers, birds, rabbits, and geese was more than perfect and gave us the serenity needed for the coming days. The owner was very welcoming and made us feel at right at home. Would highly recommend.
We had a great time at Gamble’s home. Perfect for a family vacation with outdoor and art adventuring near by. The house was clean and inviting. Communication with Gamble was very easy as well.
We had an wonderful stay at this Beautiful Secret Garden Hideaway!!! We were greeted with fresh cut flowers and delicious homemade mixed berries pie! The home owner was great with his response time and hospitality, we would definitely recommend this home away from home to everyone!
A peaceful retreat
We stayed at Gamble's rental while section hiking the NY Appalachian Trail. It was a great quiet respite to return to at the end of the day. Enjoyed watching deer around the pond in the morning and the beautiful birds at the feeder. Gamble was very responsive to all of our questions and his house has everything you need for a comfortable stay.
Great Location for West Point Families!
This house was a great find! Our group of four had everything we needed, plenty of room, and it was less than 30 minutes away from post (the drive got shorter as we became more familiar with the roads). The three bedrooms were comfortable, and the kitchen table was big enough for our son and his girlfriend and his room mates to join us for dinner. We didn't do any cooking (we brought dinner in both evenings), but the kitchen seemed well stocked. Our visit was before all of the flowers had a chance to bloom, but the grounds were lovely. During the day the skylights provided tons of natural light. The lighting in the evenings was a little dimmer than our group would have preferred, but that really was the only remotely negative that we found, and other groups might not notice it at all. The owners were very quick to respond to any and all communications from the time we initially booked the property and throughout our stay, they offered lots of information about the surrounding area and suggestions for things to do, and provided a handy information sheet about the house on the kitchen table.
