Stari Grad is a huge 148sqm renovated self-catering holiday apartment located within the Old Town and therefore the heart of Kotor. The moment you step in through the door you will be amazed by the spacious central hallway which leads off to all the beautifully furnished rooms. The apartment is bright and sunny, lit up by multiple large windows which let in a stream of sunlight throughout the day. The 3 very large bedrooms contain either a Queen size, King size or twin single beds, there is an ensuite bathroom with a shower plus bath and a separate family bathroom again with both shower and bath. The apartment retains its original wooden floors painstakedly restored to their former glory and original window shutters and double doors throughout. Central heating radiators are present for the Winter months and for the Summer the apartment is fully air-conditioned. There is a small terrace with a table and 4 chairs if you prefer to enjoy a drink or breakfast al-fresco or a fully equipped kitchen diner. The living room has large sofas, tv, dvd player, films, games and books. The apartment is ideally located just behind the main square, with the restaurants, shops, cafes, bars and marina main entrance all at hand.
This holiday rental is located on the 1st floor (American 2nd) of an old Venetian stone building, its high ceilings and spacious rooms overlooks Kotor’s narrow cobbled alleys, streets, and charming stone palaces, villas and squares.
Stepping into this magnificent apartment is like diving into the past, the building was formerly used as a first class hotel and would have been frequented by many affluent and prominent individuals during its centuries of existence. The building is therefore listed within the top 100 for its historical importance, making this vacation rental one of the most exclusive holiday homes in Montenegro.
Kotor Old Town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site; the best preserved and certainly the most beautiful medieval town in the region. This walled City is in the Boka Bay, sandwiched between the majestic Mount Lovcen and the sea and therefore one of the most dramatic landscapes which you could ever visit. It is one of the main tourist destinations in Montenegro and has a wealth of attractions for the visitor but it still remains a fully functioning town with residents and locals living and working. Within the town is a maize of cobbled streets and alleys which contain churches, museums, venetian architecture and a cathedral dating back to 1166. From here you will also find the steps to the Old Fort where you will experience some of the most stunning views of the bay.
By staying outside of Kotor Old Town you probably would find that you would be making regular if not daily trips here just for the atmosphere that exists within its walls. This waterfront town boasts year round interest and is known for hosting numerous festivals, the squares are often filled with entertainment such as plays and has hosted fashion shows from some of the world's top designers.
The marina is located just outside its fortress walls and from here you can take a boat trip along the fjord or sit and watch the yachts and cruise ships sail in. The local beach is a 5-10 min walk where swimming or sunbathing is possible. The town has all the shops, restaurants and bars you could desire right on your doorstep, there is a lively daily market, selling organic produce and fresh flowers which in the evenings are replaced by stalls selling jewellery and trinkets. A cinema is located in the square opposite the apartment showing English speaking movies. A new shopping centre is also within a 10 minute walk with a fitness gym and soft play area for children. Very few cities can boast to have so much in such close proximity as does Kotor, which also rings true for Montenegro in general which is blessed with some of the most beautiful beaches, mountains and scenery.
The Bay of Kotor has the deepest fjords in the Mediterranean and is officially listed within the top 10 'Most Beautiful Bays in the World'.
This VRBO partner has demonstrated and is committed to fast response times, the best rates, and a great guest experience.
The moment I set foot into the apartment I fell in love with the space, the high ceilings, the views and the central location. As for Kotor town it felt like it was straight out of a fairytale book surrounded by towering mountains and the sea.
Everything happens in Kotor, from carnivals and fashion shows and restaurants, shops and bars on your doorstep but within a minute once you walk through the city gate you have the sea and beach.
'Thank you for allowing us to stay in your truly beautiful apartment. We have fallen in love with Kotor and hope to return with friends and stay in your amazing apartment once again. Thank you.'
John’s apartment was ideal for our family of five and had everything we needed to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable. It’s in a perfect location in the heart of the beautiful walled city. The surrounding scenery is stunning and there are wonderful restaurants on the doorstep.
John was an excellent host, communication was swift and clear.
Would definitely recommend without hesitation and we’d stay here again in a heartbeat if we came back to Montenegro.
A unique experience to stay within the walls of Old Town Kotor. However, the apartment needs a thorough cleaning (mold in one of the showers) and facelift (kitchen, bathrooms, furniture, TV). Overall, our impressions and experience did not match photos of "grand apartment" on website or comments of other guests.
My husband and I came to Kotor for our 13th wedding anniversary and chose John's place to stay. We are so happy we did. It's right in the heart of the old town and if you have the windows closed it's really quiet but if you open them up you get to hear the sounds around you. We loved sitting on the little balcony out the back and my husband loved playing in the kitchen. The bed was comfortable, there was endless hot water and the wifi worked great in the lounge room. This place is really big so would suit friends travelling together or a family - but for us as a couple it was fun to be in even though we only used a couple of rooms.
5 friends and I (old mates from university days many years ago) stayed in John's apartment for 4 nights.
Our stay had 2 themes. Get out and do stuff (walking, kayaking - we used Kotor Bay Tours for kayaks - they were excellent) then drink lots of beer in the local bars (cheap and very friendly).
I could ramble on for ages about how good the apartment was and what a lovely place Kotor is but you should go and see for yourself.
This was the first time we had booked a holiday property through Owner's Direct but it was so easy and John, the owner, was very helpful at all stages of booking and was always quick to respond to any queries we had. Also, the HomeAway app proved invaluable in gleaning lots of customised useful information (written by John) about the apartment and Kotor in general (good local beaches, transport, things to do, rubbish collection, restaurants, contact and emergency numbers for his local agents, and all sorts of other local knowledge that proved very useful.
Mima, the agency girl, met us promptly outside the Kotor main gates when we were dropped off by the airport taxi. She was very helpful and explained everything (took breakage deposit and reminded us to register/pay the tourist tax within 24 hours). She was always available to ask any questions or recommend things throughout the 10 days we were there (by text mostly). She arranged a reputable car hire company to contact us and that all went smoothly.
The apartment itself did not disappoint in any way and all the bedrooms and lounge were huge, with lovely high ceilings and every room had remote control air conditioning units which were very welcome (and quiet too). My 2 eldest daughters shared the twin bedded room, my teenage son had a large double bed to himself and my wife and I had the 3rd bedroom, complete with ensuite bath and shower (the shower, and the one in the main bathroom, was particularly good - plenty hot water and good pressure). The whole apartment was very clean and the modern kitchen well stocked (incl washing machine, microwave and fridge freezer). A real home from home to be honest. Lovely old original shuttered windows looked out on to the lovely cobbled streets and to the old man playing guitar below every day.
Kotor is like a mini Dubrovnik with beautiful narrow winding streets and loads of wonderful bars, restaurants and cafes, as well as many boutique shops. You can't believe how how the surrounding mountains are until you actually see them - actually have to tilt your head right back to see the mountain tops! There was usually a different cruise ship in port every day - an amazing sight to behold too. They are absolutely massive and it was quite a spectacle watching them (while sunbathing on the beach) reverse out and do 'three point turns' in the middle of the fiord.
All in all, a very memorable holiday in a beautiful apartment, in a beautiful country. Highly recommended
It was a pleasure to stay in this apartment. John, the owner of the apartment, was very helpful at the stage of booking and payment. Mima, his agent, was friendly, kind and helpful. The apartment itself exceeded all our expectations. Not only it was located in the heart of a beautiful town of Kotor, surrounded by a number of restaurants, bars and shops, but it was also very clean, spacious and just a perfect fit for a family stay ( there were 6 of us, including one 10 year old child). We were provided with bed linen, two towels per person, as well as fully equipped kitchen and an iron! There are a few local beaches just 5-7 minutes walk from the apartment, however, we personally preferred private beaches, that were a little bit further out (between 10-13km) but were easily accessible by taxi (between 6 people it was usually around 2euros per person). All in all I definitely recommend this apartment and hopefully we will be back next year!
