Overview

About the property

3 Bedroom, 2 Bathroom Beautiful Log Home Nestled In The Upper Rogue River Area

Nestled comfortably into one of the many nooks of the Crater Lake National Park region and Upper Rogue River area, this serene and spacious two-story log home is warm and cozy in winter, cool and relaxing in summer, and is beautiful year round.

The Cabin is situated on 5 rural acres, one of the closest to Crater Lake National Park south entrance (34 miles), one mile from Lost Creek Lake (boating, fishing, and swimming recreation) and the Rogue River (known for scenic majesty, world-class fishing and rafting).

An expansive wrap-around deck over-looks mountains and a valley below. It has two large bedrooms each with a queen bed and adjoinging full bathrooms; one upstairs and one downstairs. Lofts provide additional sleeping areas with a pull-out sofa bed. The fully equipped kitchen is open and spacious and was originally designed with a chef in mind. The dining room boasts views of woodlands, meadows, and wildlife as does the entire cabin. The comfy living room is a great place to relax after an active day out of doors and is extra comfy with the wood burning stove. The Cabin has a washer/dryer for guests’ convenience, and parking is abundant for those traveling with a boat or trailer.

The property has a creek running through it, hills behind, and a pristine view down into the valley overlooking the Cascade Gorge Canyon. Only one neighbor is visible on the hills behind. Visitors can walk (5 minutes) down the driveway to the picturesque Gorge on the Rogue River, take a peek, then have a bite and drink at the Gorge cafe and bar, before taking a short drive to one of the many natural wonders hiding in the Cascades.

The Cabin is centrally located to the outdoor activities of the Upper Rogue River/ Cascade area which makes it convenient for sight-seeing, hiking, or just kicking back and relaxing in a beautiful wilderness setting.

Visiting the majestic Crater Lake National Park is one of the major draws to this part of the Cascades, but don’t miss Lost Creek Lake (just one mile from the Cabin) where each year visitors enjoy fishing, boating, water skiing and any number of lake activities and water sports. The Marina has a little cafe and boat rentals.

For those river rascals among us, the property is located just a few hundred yards from the renowned Rogue River where, depending on the season, there are all different kinds of world-class fishing. River rafting and kayaking is another popular summer activity on a nearby stretch of the Rogue.

About Will Allen

We're Cristina and Will Allen. We love this area and hope you enjoy your stay a whole lot and come back often. ;)

Will Allen purchased this house in 2015

Why Will Allen chose Prospect

Who doesn't love a log cabin, in the woods, near a river and a lake?! Seriously, who?

What makes this house unique

We love the views, seeing the elk cross the meadow some mornings if we're up early, the foxes running in the evening, and all the rest. I think we did a great job decorating it with a creative touch...not cliche log cabin decorations but not turning our nose to the fact that it is a cabin in the woods and should be appreciated as such. The wood stove is sweet...well bitter sweet...it needs logs (my job to chop them) but warming the house with a fire is a pretty unique experience these days. I appreciate it thoroughly.

WAS A WONDERFUL LOCATION TO SET OUT TO CRATERLAKE.WE HAD THE MISFORTUNE TO ARRIVE WHEN THERE WAS HEAVY SMOKE FROM THE WILDFIRES, THE HOMEOWNERS PROVIDED HEPA FILTER AND IT WORKED GREAT SINCE BOTH MYSELF AND MY HUSBAND HAVE BREATHING ISSUES.THE CABIN WAS CLEAN AND COMFORTABLE.WE HAD EVERYTHING THAT WE NEEDED,THERE IS EVEN A LITTTLE STORE AT THE BOTTOM OF THE DRIVE IN CASE YOU NEED MILK OR BREAD.WE ENJOYED OUR STAY.

Fire in Prospect, OR

  • 3 of 5

We were alerted by the owner the day prior to arrival that the property had been put on a level 2 evacuation notice due to a nearby forest fire. This meant that the occupants should be ready to depart at a moments notice if the fire changed. We decided to go ahead and arrive the first day to assess the situation. We arrived about 5:30 PM to find heavy smoke choking the valley. The neighbors were out frantically clearing dried brush near the shared entry driveway. We spend the night monitoring for changes to the evacuation status. The next morning we decided to repack all our belongings in our rental car and check back later to see if the situation had improved. By late afternoon the status was unchanged. We did not return to the cabin and sent a notification to the owner that evening. It is a very nice cabin and location but I can not say we had a wonderful time.

Owner's Response: Hi Richard, We're so glad you and your family enjoyed the cabin and location. Sorry the first days of the fires coincided with your stay. I'm sure it was a concern for you as it was for all of us. It seems like the 3-star review is more of a reflection of the fires/weather and not the cabin, which of course, was totally out of our control. Thankfully the fires were put out fairly rapidly and that this doesn't happen often. We do hope you come back in the future to enjoy the Upper Rogue Crater Lake area and fresh mountain air that we are known for.

Lovely fun house with lots of space and a big kitchen.

  • 5 of 5

We loved the property and it was well set up for a long stay— unfortunately the wildfires didn’t let us enjoy the outside as much as we’d hoped but that was just bad luck/timing. Nice location too— one hour away are beautiful lakes, rivers, and of course Crater Lake. Bring lots of food with you! It’s a little drive to major supplies but that’s the best part— really being away from it all....

A pleasant stay overall, with some caveats

  • 4 of 5

This house is pleasant and provided enough space for our group of five. It is fairly close to Crater Lake (though still about an hour's drive to the rim) and worked well as a home base for our explorations in that area. The beds are comfortable and the house is well-maintained. I can't quite give it five stars, though, because: 1) it's not as tranquil as it seems in the pictures because it's close to the highway, and you can always hear highway noise, 2) the decks are great but there is no umbrella or shaded area to sit out on a hot day, and in general the outdoor furniture is uncomfortable, and 3) I think the extra charges for each guest beyond two people is excessive. Overall though, it's a nice place and we enjoyed our time there.

Owner's Response: Hi Kate, Thanks for the review. Glad you enjoyed your stay. I just want to clarify a few things, for anyone who may be reading this review: We're 35 minutes to the actual entrance to Crater Lake National Park, and closer an hour to the lake once you are inside the park. We are one of the three closest properties on route to the park. There are none closer. As far as the extra charge for additional guests, that is a standard charge for all of the rentals in our area. Thanks, Will & Cristina
