About Carrie McAllen

Owners, Mike and Carrie McAllen

Carrie McAllen purchased this house in 2006

Why Carrie McAllen chose Lotus

We were visiting family in the Gold Country in early 2006 and fell in love with the area. We loved the relaxed vibe and the beautiful foothills and of course the beautiful river. Within a month we accepted the keys to our new home located on 2 acres and on the South Fork of the American River. The wineries, open spaces, wildlife, river recreation, culture and great people are all amenities that we enjoy. It's our home away from home so we are happy to share it when we can't be there ourselves. Every time we go for a visit, we instantly feel all the pressures of the daily grind evaporate and we always return back to the bay area refreshed and relaxed.

What makes this house unique

There are so many great things to do in the historic Gold Country: River Rafting, hiking, biking, eating, wine tasting at many local wineries, buying locally grown organic olive oil and honey, relaxing, reading a good book on the private access river in front of our home, BBQ, spending time with family and friends for the weekend on a hot summer day, gold panning, horseback riding, shopping in Placerville and Auburn for unique gifts and much more.

What a great family vacation!!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the ranch for a relaxing family, my husband, our 2 daughters (each with a friend) and our dog. What a great place! The house is very nice...excellent condition...nice kitchen, great barbeque in the backyard and plenty of room for all of us! The entire property is very inviting and pleasant. Carrie (the owner) is super nice and very responsive! There is your own personal/private river access...we spent many days floating on the river near the property and if you want more space there is a great beach across the river. We also went river rafting with OARS company (right across the bridge) and had soooo much fun! What a great family vacation! We meant to go to nearby wineries and get out more...but enjoyed lounging by the river too much :-)

Family Place

  • 4 of 5

Family trip with 3 generations. Good accommodations for young and old. Kids enjoyed the play room/bedroom. Kitchen had everything we needed. Place was very clean. It was winter so restaurants were not open. Bakery was good across the bridge. Winery near by. Place was as advertised on VRBO. Will recommend to friends who are going to have a wedding up in this area in the fall.

Beautiful Loacation

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I along with our two small dogs, and various relatives stayed 8 nights in this wonderful home. We were visited by wild turkeys each morning which delighted our dogs to no end. Kitchen was the most extensively stocked one I have encountered yet. I have rented at least 10 properties and this one has them all beat. I have one negative for older individuals the river access is a little rough, but the young folks will have no trouble. The solar lights at the rivers edge were a special delight. The campfire pit area was great. The Ping Pong/Game room was a lot of fun. I would highly recommend this property to anyone and when we visit my brother in Placerville this is our go to destination. Thanks again for everything.

Perfect place in the Sierra foothills & along Hwy. 49

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful site and surroundings! A very comfortable and cozy home. We had some rainy weather and the ping pong table and family room--in addition to the living room-- offered fun & games while waiting out the rain. An open, light and airy home. The kitchen had everything we needed. A picturesque site just above the American River!

Awesome place for family stay

  • 5 of 5

My family and few of my friends family stayed at Barking Spider ranch last year July4th weekend. On the picture, this place didn't look that great, but our view completely changed after our stay. This is a wonderful vacation place, near the river and convenient access to white water rafting locations. The house was very nice and cozy, we everyone liked the place very much, particularly kids enjoyed a lot. For the first time we did white water rafting, and it was a stimulating experience for all of us. The owners are very nice and kind. Though I haven't met them in person, but I had several phone conversation with them. I had to mention the life lasting experience I had. During this trip I lost a gold locket that fell off from the chain I was wearing. I thought it must have been fallen off during the rafting. But two weeks later i received an envelope from the owner Carrie. For my surprise I found the lost locket inside the envelope with a nice note from Carrie " Eureka we found your gold. When you visit gold country you should find gold, not leave gold”. What a professionalism!! My gratitude goes to Carrie & her family.
