Wonderful Mountain House

  • 5 of 5

It was perfect place to say for our son's graduation from WCU. Great house with a lot of room. Very clean too. It has one of the best stocked kitchens we have seen it all of VRBO stays.

A nice place for a big family, with great views as well!

The Roost was our Thanksgiving getaway house. We had 6 adults and 3 children and there was plenty of space for all of us. The were lots of beds, pull out couches, even huge oversized beanbags to sleep on! We enjoyed the large kitchen filled with all necessary appliances, and the view out back was incredible! We loved waking up with the mountains each morning. It felt very secluded but still nearby to things we wanted to do in Bryson City and Cherokee.

Our only issues were small ones. We had difficulty working a couple of the tvs and felt that directions would have been helpful. The fireplace on the main level filled the downstairs level with smoke even when the flue was opened. Unfortunately we had to sleep with the windows open that night and it was 30 degrees outside. We made the best of it, chalking it up to cabin life, but we weren't able to enjoy a fire the following nights.

The loft had a major issue with wasps. We killed 15 in the first evening, and even more in the days to come. My brother in law was even stung in his sleep the last night. of our visit Luckily we were headed home that day anyway. We also experienced beetles in the loft and a dying mouse in the downstairs level. But again, cabin life was our explanation for these encounters with nature.

Other than that, the house was clean, the decor was lovely, the amenities were nice, and the ping pong table was fun for the kids. We might stay again, provided we brought our own wasp spray and mousetraps!

Owner's Response: Thank You for the Review. We are so sorry that you had an issue with the fireplace. As owners the only time we have had that issue was when it was windy outside. The fireplace chimneys are side by side. You are right about Cabin Life. The little beetles are seasonal and our housekeeper keeps them up the best that she can. We also have field mice that do slip in every now and then. We have the house sprayed and treated quarterly. I did call them after you left and they addressed the issues with the wasp. We do hope you will stay again..Thank you for letting us know.

A great location, great view, and great home

  • 5 of 5

The home is well stocked and maintained. The view is very nice and the open floorplan suited our needs perfectly. We enjoyed cooking many of our own meals and watching a football game or two on the huge TV. We plan to stay again the next time we visit the area (the only thing was the grille was not functional, but that mattered very little). We really enjoyed our stay. First class home.
