Cliffside Whale View - This property has one of the best views that the the San Juan Islands have to offer! The location is very private in the most exclusive neighborhood on the west side of the island.
Off of the large and spacious deck, the city of Sidney on Vancouver Island is clearly visible, just 8 miles in the distance surrounded by snow capped mountains. Being a stones throw from the water on the corner of Haro Strait, Mosquito Pass (which leads to Roche Harbor), and Open Bay ...whales, seals, and eagle sightings are almost a daily occurrence during the summers. Comments from previous guests rave about the fabulous views, sunsets, wildlife sightings (including an almost pet fox, deer, a local bald eagle (Boris), and a very combative hummingbird (Oreo).
The house is warm and comfortable with 5 large glass windows in the main living and dining area overlooking the water in 3 directions. Each room has its own thermostat, with the large central propane fireplace being the source for a warm and cozy atmosphere.
There are 3 bedrooms, 2 with king beds and one with 2 twins and a full bath on the main floor and the second level. This property has been great for families with an older couple as there is a king size bed and a full bathroom on the main floor. Many previous guests have commented on how they found the experience extremely restful, due to the sound of water lapping against the shore and the extremely quiet location... with the exception of the seagull and eagle chatter.
The house is equipped with WiFi, Dish TV, DVD / VHS player, and unlimited long distance phone service, but most guests are more interested in the constant flow of marine traffic ranging from freighters, to naval vessels, to commercial and sport fisherman, to kayaks, and major sailboat races.
The kitchen is fully furnished, including dishwasher, microwave, toaster oven, coffee maker, blender and an abundance of kitchen utensils. Guests' comments have mentioned what a delight it was to use the infrared propane grill.
Friday Harbor, Roche Harbor, and the abundant parks and hiking trails are less than 20 minutes away. Many guests find the mile walk to Snug Harbor for a cup of fresh brewed Java is a relaxing way to start the day. Snug Harbor also offers 3 hour whale watch and kayak tours
We strive to offer a San Juan experience with a lifetime of memories.
