Gorgeous view, close to Gros Piton

Bedrooms 1
Space 460 sq ft
Property type apartment
Minimum Stay 3 nights

About the property

This is the perfect apartment for an adventurer! We're 5 minutes from stand-up paddleboarding (borrow ours!), 20 minutes from the Gros Piton trailhead, 25 minutes from the best snorkelling on the island (at the marine reserve at Sugar Beach), and 30 minutes from kitesurfing (we're avid kitesurfers ourselves). If you're not afraid of heights, we can also connect you with the guides for Petit Piton (we've climbed it lots of times and it's amazing).

Ours is a new house (2013) built to Western standards. It has a beautiful view of the Piton mountains, rolling hills & valleys and the Caribbean sea. There's one bedroom with a queen bed, plus a single day bed in the living room plus an air mattress (best for 2 adults + 2 children). We have unusually fast wireless internet (50Mbps) and a large patio with BBQ.

We're a 5-minute walk to a large, quiet beach that you'll often have all to yourself. It's a 7-minute walk to the fishing village of Choiseul, where you can get your groceries.

About Chris McGrath

We're a family of 5, originally from British Columbia, Canada. We've lived full time in St. Lucia since 2011. We have 3 school-aged children who attend the local primary and secondary schools. My wife runs a soap business and I do software. [Note: We have good friends caring for our home and rental suite for the winter of 2017/18 while we do a ski season in Canada!]

Chris McGrath purchased this apartment in 2013

Why Chris McGrath chose Saint Lucia

We fell in love with the gorgeous views and country living of Choiseul. We couldn't find anything that felt right for our family, so we designed this house ourselves and finished building it in 2013.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We arrived to find a beautiful apartment immaculately clean and cared for.. with the most stunning views of the pitons and ocean. Our hosts provided as much information for us to find our way around and make it to the local shop and beach. The family were very approachable and we felt we could ask for advice, directions and recommendations. I would recommend this place and it's great location between Soufriere and view fort

Very comfortable and well supplied place.

We really enjoyed staying in Chris' place. There are alot of places to stay around the island, and we wanted the opportunity to drive around and explore, not just stay in the tourist areas. It was very convenient to a beach where we spent many hours, sitting and enjoying the sounds and views.

The apartment itself is the lower floor of the owner's residence. There are some steep steps down to the apartment but are right next to a wrought iron fence which acted as a railing. The apartment is very secure with deadbolts and we never feared for our safety or worried about theft. The TV area was adequate and the basic Netflix selection of movies allowed us to relax in the evening. The kitchen had a full sized refrigerator and gas oven, but no microwave. There was plenty of cooking equipment, including a salad spinner. We cooked all of our breakfasts and dinners in the apartment and lacked nothing. The bathroom was large with plenty of hooks and a shower. The bedroom was large with a comfortable bed and overhead fan. Wifi was excellent in the bedroom, and adequate in the kitchen and TV area. We had no problems with pests or mosquitos, even sitting out on the deck at dusk.

Chris was very good to work with, although he wasn't on the island when we were there. There was a couple on site as managers while he was gone, and they were very helpful. Chris sent alot of information of recommendations of things to do, beaches to see, restaurants to go to, grocery stores to stop at on the way from the airport--all of which were very helpful in our planning. He also arranged with us, and paid us, to bring some beach chairs from the mainland for use by the renters.

I would highly recommend this safe, private apartment. It puts you outside of the small coastal town and we felt that we were able to explore the island adequately on day trips.

Great location, Total package

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I spent 8 nights in this one bedroom suite. Perfect size for 2 people, but can easily accommodate more. The suite is very comfortable and clean. Chris and Gina were very helpful in giving us tips for a great week. The sunsets on the patio are fantastic. I loved being so close to the beach as well. The evenings are nice and quiet to fall asleep and the location is easy enough to get around to do all the fun stuff. I would return without a doubt !

Lovely location for adventurers, with great views

  • 4 of 5

The listing is accurate, definitely with superb views of the Gros Piton. Chris and Gina are a wonderful couple and very helpful with their suggestions and knowledge of the island and their community. We found that the location is rural and quiet (we fell asleep to the sound of crickets every night) and we felt very safe; people in the community were very friendly and helpful with directions. We were very happy to have a small car to explore the many hikes and beaches of the island. There is a small parking area in their yard, thus a smaller car is best. The place works very well for two people with a comfortable bed and what we needed for cooking most nights. We found that the kitchen was not as clean as we would expect. The shower has good pressure and solar-heated hot water. Overall, this is a great spot for adventurous, self-sufficient travelers and we highly recommend it. We would stay again on a return visit! Thanks, Chris and Gina, for your hospitality.

Wonderful view

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent 4 days at this property and had a wonderful time. The property was very much as described. We loved the keypad entry. Everything was clean and in good order. There were various notes which described how things worked and there were multiple adapters enough for everything

Thanks Chris for a great visit.

Beautiful view, peaceful location

  • 5 of 5

The apartment was great! It's in a beautiful location, with amazing views of the Caribbean sea and Gros Piton. The owners are super helpful, anything you need or want to know is addressed immediately. The apartment it set up very comfortably, lots of receptacles and adapters included. The keypad entry was a nice option, very simple, no key for me to lose. The owners have thoughtfully included stickers around the apartment with helpful information like WiFi password, use of the washer and other helpful tips. We also enjoyed the homemade soap and lip balm, Soufriere soapworks, we picked up some to take home! The bed was comfortable, as was the temperature in the apartment, very easy to sleep with the breeze passing through. We had no problems with mosquitoes since all the doors and windows have screens. We had a wonderful stay!

We love how laid-back Choiseul is. Neighbours are genuinely kind and interested in your welfare. We all watch over each other and help each other out — loaning tools, sharing fruits from the garden, etc.

We are a 7-minute walk from Choiseul Village, a quaint little fishing town. Choiseul has a fish market, a Saturday fruit & vegetable market, two small grocery stores, a couple of small restaurants, a beach, a general store, a post office, a police station, and a large Catholic church.

The best beach nearby is Sabwisha, which you can walk to in either 5 or 10 minutes, depending on the shifting sands. It has a park and about 400 yards of sand, and it's almost always empty. We go there several times a week to swim, run or paddleboard.

Other nice beaches in the area include Anse Ivogne, at the base of Gros Piton, and Laborie Beach in the nearby town of Laborie. Both take about 15 minutes to get to by car. Sandy Beach in Vieux Fort, about 30 minutes by car, has over a mile of shoreline and is great for swimming, kitesurfing and windsurfing.

For a romantic meal, two famed resorts are within a 15-minute drive: Ladera and Hotel Chocolat. They both have excellent food and drinks, though it's pricey. There are several other small restaurants around Choiseul, but you usually have to arrange your meal in advance.

Because it's rural, there are a lot of animal noises around — sheep, roosters, dogs. I don't notice it, but when I'm on a conference call I always get people asking me, "Was that a rooster?" or, "Did I just hear a goat?" So you will likely notice the sounds.

We are a short walk from the main bus route. During peak times, there are frequent, inexpensive buses to Soufriere and Vieux Fort. However, as buses do not run on a schedule and are mostly unavailable at night and on Sundays, most guests will prefer to have their own rental car. Taxi service is available but needs to be scheduled in advance.
