About the property

Clean and modern cottage with a king-sized bed, kitchen, large bath, sleeps 2.

Located at the end of a dead end road on a ridge top, Meadowlark Ridge is just six miles west of Viroqua, Wisconsin. The Garden Cottage is located next to the owner's home, yet it is private and quiet, with beautiful perennial gardens, fruit trees and veggie gardens around the house and cottage.

You'll find everything you need for a comfortable stay in this one-room cottage - quality linens & towels; a kitchen with stove, microwave/convection oven and refrigerator; coffee/tea; toaster; and unscented soaps and lotions. We upgraded to high speed satellite internet/Wi-Fi and have good cell phone reception. The cottage has a flat-screen TV with a Blu-ray player and a selection of movies. The cottage has a very comfortable king-sized bed with linens, blankets, and a heated mattress pad. There is a washer and dryer in the kitchen area. The cottage is heated/air conditioned and has a large walk-in tile shower in the full bath. There is a Weber gas grill on the covered porch.

With 360 degree views of the skyline and set between two valleys, you will love the quiet location, starry skies and beautiful sunrises and sunsets. Our cropland is certified organic, and all neighboring cropland is farmed organically as well.

Feel free to roam around our property and enjoy the views and extensive perennial and vegetable gardens.

There are great hiking trails, world-class trout fishing and two wineries within just a few miles of the cottage. We are in the Bad Axe watershed, not far from the north and south forks of the Bad Axe River and Springville Creek, and just a short drive to Timber and Spring Coulee trout streams. There is a large Amish community a few miles west of us with shops open to the public. Viroqua has a number of interesting places to eat or shop, and many local activities and events.

Relax with a massage during your stay at The Garden Cottage. Wayne is a licensed massage therapist (LMT) who has been helping clients since 2009 in our home as well as in office and chiropractic settings. Sessions take place in our home. The room is large and comfortable with beautiful views. You may accompany your partner while they receive a massage, relaxing with a book if you choose.

The cottage is licensed with the State of Wisconsin. Sorry but we have a no-pet policy. The cottage is perfect for two adults; we cannot accept guests under 18 years old.

About Wayne Ott

For over 15 years, Wayne & Sherrie traveled to the Viroqua area for their spring and fall camping and fishing trips. When Sherrie retired in 2014, they moved to Viroqua and are happy to be living in such a beautiful and friendly area. Before the move, Wayne worked as a cartographer with the US Geological Service and Sherrie with the USDA as a resource conservationist. Wayne completed massage therapy training at CVTC in Eau Claire and practices out of their home, specializing in injury rehabilitation and relaxation massage.

Why Wayne Ott chose Viroqua

Vernon County has so much to offer, including winding roads through beautiful hills and valleys, world-class trout streams, large open areas for hiking like the Kickapoo Valley Reserve, and a large organic and Amish communities that offer their unique products. The Kickapoo River near Ontario offers scenic canoeing and kayaking, and there are several bike trails including the Elroy-Sparta and La Crosse River trail within easy driving. Some of our visitors head to the nearby Mississippi River to pan fish. Birdwatchers can enjoy bald eagles and a host of migratory birds as they travel along the big river. Our property is home to numerous songbirds including Eastern Meadowlarks, Northern Orioles, Bluebirds, Hummingbirds as well as Wild Turkeys, deer and pheasants. Viroqua is a friendly community with interesting small shops and a couple of restaurants serving locally-sourced food. We are just a few miles from two wineries with tasting rooms.

What makes this cottage unique

We try to be very responsive to our guests, and we add amenities whenever our guests request something. All linens and towels are washed with unscented soaps. We added more towels, some more kitchen supplies, and now high speed satellite internet so the Wi-Fi signal is stronger and faster. We want our guests to be delighted with their stay.

Guestbook comments from the owner

My wife and I celebrated our wedding anniversary. We were looking for somewhere that was clean, quiet, private, yet with modern amenities. We found all of that and more at the Garden Cottage at Meadowlark Ridge. Sherrie was very helpful with local attractions. Her flower gardens were fantastic, the king size bed was really comfortable, and everything was a pleasant surprise.

We look forward to returning.

Peaceful, welcoming cottage in a beautiful setting. Perfect.

  • 5 of 5

Sherrie and Wayne's cottage is lovely. The place is clean, sunny, cozy--- well-equipped and just easy to be in. Every window looks out at a different lovely view of the Driftless area. Our hosts shared excellent information about terrific nearby hiking, great drives, wonderful restaurants. We will definitely be back!

A Serene Setting

  • 5 of 5

We so enjoyed the quiet beauty of the setting of the cottage. The rolling hills of the Driftless area of this part of Wisconsin offer views in every direction, and being at the end of a dead end street meant there was no traffic to disrupt the peace. The cottage itself is well equipped and very comfortable.

Views!.....sunrise, sunset, night sky! Comfy king bed, clean, well appointed with extra touches. And it really is private ( they keep their shades closed on that side of the house!)

So glad we discovered this cottage getaway

  • 5 of 5

We hope to stay here many more times in the future since we love the Viroqua area. Gorgeous views from this ridgetop, completely quiet (slept like the dead both nights), beautiful flower and vegetable gardens, and the cottage is cozy, bright, homey and very clean. It was provided with every amenity we'd want...even fresh organic half-and-half for the coffee, thanks for that. Felt very private, but loved meeting Wayne and Sherrie, wonderful hosts.
