The property was nice and clean

  • 3 of 5

The only issue we had was the lack of air conditioning during an unusual heat wave.

Great location, but you'll have to compromise on some things

  • 4 of 5

Great location, a $7 uber ride to Gaslamp and $7 to Little Italy. 10 minute ride to the airport.

The apartment itself is on the 2nd floor, and the only way up to it is quite a few stairs. The bedrooms are very spacious, the kitchen is nice and modern, but has no oven, only microwave and a gas cook top. Also the 2nd bathroom has bifold doors, we mistook for laundry room, but was a small bathroom, with a very small sink, stall shower.

It is very loud once inside, you can hear the cars driving by, planes flying in to land at the airport, and there is a restaurant directly below, while you cant hear the people in the restuarant, you can hear the people coming in from the outside. Also, there is a smell of food cooking in the apartment during business hours, but no smell when it is closed.

Overall the place is nice, with no place to lounge except in the bedrooms, which worked out for our group.

Nice and clean, but small and out of the way

  • 4 of 5

I am a professor who routinely uses vacation rentals when I take students to conferences. Vacation rentals often allow mixed genders to stay together with a common area at a fraction of the cost of hotel rooms. To date, this was the third time I've taken students to San Diego for a conference (at the Convention Center) and the fifth conference overall, so I have experience with vacation rentals in large cities.

First off, the place was very clean, and the owner was absolutely awesome. The owner was extremely kind, flexible, and accommodating when our plans changed two weeks before our arrival. These two pluses are huge and absolutely worth considering when looking at properties.

The negative aspects of this property fall into two categories: size of the place and its location. The bulk of the space was reserved for the bedrooms, two of which are quite spacious. The rear master bedroom has a decent master bath, but the second full bath is quite small (notice there are no pics on the listing). The shower is little more than a closet, and there is barely enough room for one person's toiletries and a towel. (Shaving was more of a chore than it needed to be.) The kitchen was nice, although it lacked some standard appliances I have seen in other places (e.g. a toaster or toaster oven). Also, there was barely any counter space for food preparation or leaving a few dishes to dry (see pics in the listing). There is a nice kitchen table we could gather around, but I was disappointed that there was no common place to relax together.

As for the location, it was super convenient to get to Balboa Park, and the bus line was very close by. The buses, however, easily get off schedule and can be more trouble than they are worth. (Next time, I will look closer to trolley lines.) The property was, though, within walking distance to the Gaslamp (20 min) and the Convention Center (30 min). I walked everywhere, only taking Lyft to the airport. Other than access to Balboa Park, the property was in a recreational desert. There were tiny bars nearby, but no nightlife to speak of, and I could see some people being nervous about its remote location in terms of safety.

Bottom line: if you want convenience and can tolerate crowded baths and limited common space, this is a decent place. The cleanliness and ownership make this a four-star property, but I can confidently say there are better places elsewhere (e.g. Little Italy, closer to the trolley) for a similar cost.

Exactly as described. Clean, convenient and close by to what we needed.

  • 5 of 5

Very nice place to stay. Parking is on the street, which we had read about in the description, and we had no problem finding a place to park. Easy walking distance to restaurants, etc. We are business travelers so the layout of the apartment, with the separate rooms, was perfect. Also, having two full baths was advantageous.

I would not advise this for families, as there is no place to "lounge" and there isn't a pool. Also, the airport landing path flies near the home but the airport has open and close times for flights, so never really a problem for us. Important to note, however, if travelers plan to stay in the apartment during the day...can get noisy.
