About the property

2 Bedrooms 2.5 Baths In Main Cabin Plus Remodeled Guest Cabin With 1 Bed 1 Bath

Located on 8 private acres and easily accessed on a seldom-traveled road, Applewood Cabin is the perfect destination for those seeking respite from a more hectic world.

The beauty of nature surrounds the cabin while the music created by the two adjoining creeks provide relaxing sounds.

The George Washington National Forest offers miles and miles of trails for hiking, biking and horseback riding and is a short hike up our road.

Our front porch looks out onto Great North Mountain with all the recreational opportunities that it offers.

Lower Cove Run is the creek that flows in front of the cabin and sections are stocked with trout for your fishing enjoyment.

Trout Pond Recreational area is a short drive through the woods and offers a playground for the kids, fishing, and swimming with a lovely white sand beach.

Lost River State Park also nearby with horseback riding, swimming and more!

Approximately 2 hours from DC, 3 hours from Baltimore and 4+ hours from the Philadelphia area, the Lost River Valley is a short drive.

The main cabin has 2 master bedrooms and 2-1/2 baths. There is a queen sized sleeper sofa in the living area allowing the main cabin to sleep 6.

The newly remodeled guest cabin has heat/air, bathroom and kitchenette and has a full-size sleeper sofa for additional guests.

This open concept cabin has been designed with comfort and entertainment in mind. Both downstairs bedrooms have their own full bathrooms. The front master has a brand new king-sized memory foam bed/mattress and the 2nd master has two double beds. The new living area furniture upstairs provides the option of a comfortable queen-size sleeper sofa.

Two levels of covered decks/porches surround the cabin. There are two 14X26 screened porches. Both porches provide tables and chairs for entertaining and on the lower level porch there is a large hot tub for your enjoyment.

The stone wood-burning fireplace adds to the coziness of the living room. The cabin provides high-speed fiberoptic internet with WIFI. There is a new flat-screen Smart TV and a bluetooth capable stereo. Our Amazon Fire Stick allows one to watch Amazon Prime movies or stream free Netflix movies. There are lots of books and some games for rainy days.

There is usually no cell phone service in this area, but there is a land line phone for limited necessary phone calls.

The kitchen is well appointed with new dishwasher, a disposal, refrigerator, coffeemaker, blender and dual-fuel stove (burners are gas, oven is electric). Stools at the snack bar make it easy to serve those casual meals. The dining room table seats 6 with room to spare. The kitchen is stocked with many of the provisions one needs for the basics (Pots, pans, bowls, dishes, glassware, seasonings, sugar, paper goods, cooking oil, etc). Just bring your own food. If you don't want to cook while on vacation there are some lovely restraunts in the area which are listed along with lots of other "places to go and things to see" in the informational notebook found in the cabin.

There is a new gas grill for your barbecue skills and a fire pit for sitting around and creating vacation memories.

We love dogs and are a dog-friendly cabin. We will allow up to a maximum of 4 dogs (80 lbs or less please) "Well - Behaved" dogs for an additional one-time fee of $50.00 per dog.

About Jim and Sue Clewell

We are originally from Pennsylvania, spent 10 years in Georgia and in our search for a more rural way of life, fell in love and settled in West Virginia in 2009. Jim is a semi/retired commercial artist who still does beautiful fine art . Sue is a retired RN and now manages Touchwood Properties, LLC . We live full-time in Monroe County, WV on our organically managed farm and get up to Hardy County to enjoy Applewood Cabin whenever we get a chance.

Jim and Sue Clewell purchased this cabin in 2015

Why Jim and Sue Clewell chose Lost River

We bought this cabin in 2015 to have a family gathering place that was closer to our children and their families, who live in Alexandria, VA(2.25 hours) and West Chester, PA 4.25 hours).

We are able to see our family much more often now as the cabin helps us" meet in the middle." The fact that the Lost River area is so absolutely beautiful and has so much to offer was the deciding factor on buying our cabin here.

What makes this cabin unique

Situated on a private 8 acres with creeks on two sides, we have worked hard to bring this cabin up to top quality condition with new floors downstairs, new furniture, appliances, new paint/decorating throughout and fiberoptic internet technology. The hot tub is perfect for relaxing at the end of your day. The totally renovated guest house adds a whole extra living space to your rental experience.

We love this cabin, the location being a short hike/bike/or ride to miles and miles of trails in the George Washington National Forest. The road is quiet as it leads straight into the National Forest. Relaxing in the rocking chairs on the upstairs deck, feeling the mountain breezes, listening to the sounds of the running creeks and absorbing the serenity this cabin provides is a heavenly experience.

The BEST VBRO Rental Cabin!

  • 5 of 5

We've rented many times through VBRO and AirBnB and can say with confidence, this place is fantastic. Very clean, everything in excellent condition, lots of space for a group in any weather. We spent five days spending time with our three children, son-in-law and granddaughter, (7 adults + 1 toddler and large dog) playing with the toys and games in the cabin, making puzzles, sleeping in the hammock, making campfires. Was super relaxing and a great space to gather our growing family together. One day we hiked around nearby Trout Pond recreation center, went to the café and grass-fed beef farm on the corner of the main road. Jim and Sue are fantastic hosts. They had thoughtfully prepared everything for our arrival. We'll be back!!

Second stay was as great as the first

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I enjoyed our stay so much last summer that we booked the cabin again for a few nights this year. Jim and Sue keep it very clean and are super nice and responsive. We love both the area and the cabin. Great for kids, too -- our toddler loved playing at the little beach at Trout Pond Recreation area, cooking his first hot dog on an open flame in the fire pit, and visiting the Bulls and Barrels rodeo at Teets Farm... and also the scone he got at the farmer's market on Saturday. I've stayed at many cabins throughout the Shenandoah, WV, and central PA, and I can't recommend this one enough.

Absolutely Perfect!

  • 5 of 5

Absolutely perfect in every way. This is a beautiful and well appointed cabin tucked into a beautiful and peaceful spot next to the national forest. Everything was spotlessly clean upon our arrival and we have everything we needed for a wonderful time (including an awesome hot tub!). If you are looking for peaceful serenity for your get away, this is your place. Sue even called before we came to see if we needed anything and followed up after our departure. Sue and her husband are caring and considerate hosts.
