2nd Year Stay

  • 5 of 5

For the 2nd year in a row my Mother and I stayed in this condo on the coast. We went later this year as we had a family member with health issues that delayed getting away to the beach. The weather was great! Cooler than in September and actually liked the temperature better than our previous stay in September the year before. The Sand Castle festival was going on the weekend we arrived and it was fun to walk a short distance down the beach to Clayton's to view the artists creating their sand castle art. An Aunt joined my mother and I this year and she had a great time. She had knee surgery the year before so the location so close to the sand & water was perfect as she did not have to walk far to enjoy the beach. She sat in her chair either on the condo patio or on the beach and read 4 books during our stay. She said that was a special treat to have that kind of time to relax and enjoy her books. As a busy grandmother she doesn't get that opportunity these days. I do wish Bahia Mar would change the ocean front steps to a ramp for wheelchair access to the beach. I have a Sister who handicapped and would be nice to just rent a beach wheelchair (already found the company right on the island who will deliver/pickup one) and just wheel her from the condo to the water front. However, only a few stairs for those that are not wheel chair bound. Since Mom and I knew our way around the island and Port Isabel a bit from the year before we enjoyed showing my Aunt our favorite shops and restaurants. We ventured to the Turtle Rescue facility and drove around looking at sand-castle art spread throughout the island. As we were leaving and crossing the causeway bridge to Port Isabel heading home, we saw a dolphin in the bay poking his head out of the water as is to wave goodbye! Made me smile and felt was a good omen. We are already planning a 3rd trip back in the Spring of 2015 and hoping to bring my Sister to enjoy our new found beach hide-a-way!

Needs some updates and some doors fixed

  • 2 of 5

So our overall experience of South Padre was just ok. Don't plan on returning. Was not happy with the food there as most places weren't very good. I did like that the condo was right off the beach. We could walk out the back door right to the beach or the pool. That was the best feature. The condo unit itself was very dated and needs some updating. There must have been water damage as the counter was warped, the sliding back door was very difficult to open and rusted, some outlets were rusted and there was a slight mildew smell. Some kitchen utensils did not work as well and pots and pans need replaced. The blinds in the master bedroom also did not work so you couldn't use the door or open to see the view. There were no extra blankets or pillows for pull out trundle bed. The WiFi was very hit and miss on if it worked and the signal on the tv was also not very good on most days. It would have been nice to have a tv in the spare bedroom as well. As far as the whole building, the braclets were a huge pain. You could not take them off and so they rubbed your arms at all times especially at night. We had two small kids who hated wearing them. My mother in laws arm would swell at night and wake her up. I understand the purpose for security reasons but I have been to ones that as long as you have the arm band with you it was good enough. Some of the umbrellas at the pool did not work and others kept blowing over. We also visited during the 4th of July and many of the people working there said the fireworks could be seen on back patio but ended up you couldn't. On Thursday we also came across three cock roaches in our unit. One on the bed our boys were sleeping in. Had this been the beginning of our stay I would have complained but we were leaving in 2 days. But nonetheless very disgusting. We don't really plan on returning any time soon.

Beautiful view, short walk to the beach...

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I loved our stay as well did Fiona our standard 30 pound Rat Terrier. It was her first time in the ocean and all of us first time to SPI. The condo was as described, it had all the essentials for cooking and clean fresh linens. The condo itself was in a perfect location, close to the pool, parking lot and ocean. The only problem we had was the WiFi. Every day between 10 am and 6 pm you could not get a signal, maintenance came and fixed it, but then the living room TV did not work...Not really a problem. The only reason I mention it is it took time away from our day waiting on maintenance to come. When you only have a week stay....the hours seemed more like days....and it would have been nice to be able to open the slider in the master for air flow...It looked like the salt air sealed it permanently with rust. Beach life...

Best view from the condo & best stretch of beach on the island

  • 5 of 5

The staff are courteous & professional. The property is well groomed with grassy areas & sidewalks. The large deck, for all to enjoy, overlooks the beach making beach chairs unnecessary.

The condo is well equipped & has comfortable seating.
