★Guest Access

Guests have complete privacy, with access to the entire 2LDK condo unit. Private washer and dryer for laundry as well as dish washer. One assigned parking space. Gated pool and manicured lawn with lounges barbecues, tiki torches. Direct ocean access from the property. On-site manager to handle incidental concerns. Maalaea Kai is known to be the best kept building in the village.

4 miles of secluded sandy beach, world class surfing, fine and family restaurants, a friendly/casual local watering hole and the historic Maalaea General Store all located within a short stroll.

★Two Beaches

There are two beaches within a 10 minute walking distance of our home.

The first is less than two minutes from the front door. A small sandy strip within the Maalaea breakwall. In our YouTube video you may see a quick clip of myself waist deep fishing from that beach.

The other "Maalaea Beach" is the longest beach in Maui, about an eight minute walk from the front door it begins at Haycraft park at the end of Hauoli Street, and continues uninterrupted for 3 miles as it becomes the more famous Sugar Beach, and continues all the way to the town of Kihei.

There are multiple surf breaks viewable directly in front of the building. When the surf is high you may see many locals and occasionally pro surfers in the water there. "Freight Trains" is the surf break directly in front of the building and it is known as the worlds fastest surfable wave. (Not for beginners when its big.)

If you have access to Google earth type in Maalaea Harbor to get an aerial view. Our building is the first to the left of the break wall (away from the harbor) if you are looking toward the ocean from land.

★Interaction with Guests

Check in and check out are self service, with incidental assistance available via our on-site manager.

House manual and map will be emailed 7 days prior to arrival.

★The Neighborhood

Historic Maalaea Village retains the charm of old Hawaii while offering every modern convenience.

Harbour shops, aquarium, and the Maalaea general store are a five minute walk away.

The harbor boasts a plethora of ocean activities including whale watching, snorkeling, diving, fishing, sailing, dinner cruises..

★Getting Around

5 minute walk to Maui Ocean Center Aquarium and mini golf. Restaurants bars shopping, Maalaea General Store..

15 minute drive to Lahaina, Kihei, Wailuku and Kahului Airport.

20 minute drive to Wailea, Kaanapali, Napili and to the upcountry.

A rental car is highly recommended, however you may find yourself content to lounge about the condo and tranquil seaside lawn.. Take it easy and enjoy paradise. No need to rush, while you are on Maui Time.

★ Whale Watching on Maui

Whale Season is typically November to May with January to March being the peak months.

★ House Rules

* As customary in Hawaii, always remove shoes before entering.

* No Smoking, Parties, or Illegal drugs will be tolerated.

* Please do not touch the whale sculpture nor allow children to horseplay in the living room. Owners will not be held responsible for any negative outcomes due to careless behavior on the part of guests.

* Please do not leave anything on the lawn, pool area.. Towels, cups, dishes..

* Whale Watch is a short-term rental home, with no room service provided. Guests are responsible for their own laundry, dishes and daily clean up.

Maui is an agricultural island with iron rich red lava soil. Steady trade-winds deposit a layer of fine dust island wide.

The condo has been cleaned prior to your arrival. If during the course of your stay the floor and surfaces become dusty, (this can happen quickly) there are cleaning supplies are on hand for your convenience. Residents, long stay guests typically do a quick 10min Swiffer mopping 3 or more times per week to keep things fresh.

Please be mindful to rinse sandy feet before entering, as it tends to hide between floor tiles and scatter later. Locals keep a gallon of water in the car and rinse sandy feet before the ride home.

Please utilize the poolside shower or one of the garden spigots to rinse sand from feet, coolers, surfboards, snorkel gear etc.

* The television is equipped with a Chromecast unit, so you may stream video from your laptop, smartphone or tablet.

* Please be courteous and respect the privacy of building residents.

* Please keep noise to a minimum, especially after dark.

Relaxing with beautiful view from balcony

Coffee on the balcony as the sun comes up over Haleakala and the day begins. Near Millhouse Tropical Plantation, General Store, Marine Center and the wharf where the ocean tours depart. Central location, 30 min from just about everything: Lahaina, Kihei, Kahului, Paia, Hookipa surf beach, etc.. Great view of the fireworks on New Year's eve. Room was clean and comfortable with full view of the Maalaea Bay and sounds of the surf & myna birds nesting in the palm trees just outside your windows. Nice way to end the day sitting on the "quiet" side of the Bay.

location, location, location..........

fully equipped, comfortable condo in a nice, well-maintained building. View is good. At night, open the sliding door and be lulled to sleep by the surf, and leave the master bedroom blinds up just a little for a view of the lights on the Kihei coast during the night. It is a quick walk to the Maui Ocean Center and Maalaea Wharf for whale watching on Trilogy or other boats. A nice surprise is the many sea turtles right up at the rock seawall that you can enjoy from a lounge chair on the lawn. Convenient location for getting to the airport or anywhere else on Maui. Aloha!

VERY pretty location

What a pretty location! We walked into a flood on the floor and were told, "Put towels around the refrigerator" which apparently had some kind of leak with issues since last November. So, we made and purchased our own ice. We traveled from the east coast and got in late so I packed coffee for the next morning so we could function before we could go food shopping. One reason why we book condos is to wake up without hassle and have coffee in the morning. The coffee maker didn't work. When reported to the owner, we were emailed where to go outside the complex for a nice latte. We were notified a coffee pot was coming in a few days AFTER we went and bought our own. Ironically, the next island we went to, we had the same problem (you can't make that stuff up) - but the owner had a new coffee maker delivered the very next morning. Both are absentee owners. What's your schedule like on Friday to let a refrigerator repair man in? Really? Great collection of movies (if you care to carry a DVD player or your PC if it has a DVD drive along with you). In spite of the snafus, we had a great time. Whale watching is great! Location is great. We hope you like rules and regulations. =)The property needs a local manager.

Owner's Response: Reading this review gave us pause.. Sincerest apologies to our guest as there were a couple of unforeseen glitches which seemed to upset her disproportionately. Though, some of the sentiments expressed seem divorced from reality. Eric, our onsite manager confirmed that the ice maker had indeed sprung a leak, which could spill as much as a pint of water each day at time of refill. He arrived on site within minutes and shut off the water supply as a stopgap measure until a Sears technician could arrive 72hrs later to install a replacement. Unfortunately, as well the coffee pot malfunctioned, and we ordered a replacement delivered Express via Amazon Prime the following day. When it rains it pours as they say. Our Sincerest Apologies for the undue inconvenience. Though we do our very best to keep the place in smooth working order appliances can fail unexpectedly. It is our policy to rectify any such glitches as expediently as possible for the comfort and safety of our guests. The Whale Watch condo is a privately managed residence, not a corporate hotel. Similarly appointed accommodations with 24hr concierge services are available at the Hyatt for a 500-1000% premium. As owner/hosts we take great pride in our home and strive to assure our guests have a pleasant comfortable stay. Annette's communication style kept us on edge all week, with a stream of manic, disjointed emails. We were uncomfortable to learn that our personal storage area (owners closets) had been explored, as the mention of our old stock of (blank) DVDs in the review would indicate. Our modern LCD television is equipped with a Chromecast for streaming video via smart phone tablet or laptop. We do not offer a library of DVD's nor player in our unit. It goes without saying that we take great pride in the Whale Watch condo, it has been our family home for almost 30yrs. It is a special place, in an idyllic environment. It is our hope to share our lovely home and aloha spirit with friendly, easy going folks from around the globe, who understand the true value, and appreciate its unique island charm. Aloha.

Great location

If you are looking for a great location right on the water, where you will see whales and turtles right from the balcony this is the spot for you. It has great access to the road in which you can go in either direction to explore the island. Nice and quiet at night, but if you want to enjoy the night life it is just a short drive away. If I was to return to Maui and this location is available I would book it again. Totally Love it.
