About Larry Yaffa
I've adventured in the Adirondacks for the last 42 years. I found this special piece of property and built a great home 10 years ago. I live out of state, my daughter is now an adult and we spend less time at camp. It's time to share with other people who will respect the land and build lasting memories with their loved ones.
Larry Yaffa purchased this Cabin in 2008
Why Larry Yaffa chose Glenfield
I had been enjoying the Adirondacks for 15 years before finding this special place. A private retreat and a great jumping off point to the Adirondack Park. The park is only 1 mile away. There's an abundance of recreation at your fingertips. Lakes and rivers to paddle and too many hiking/biking/horse trails to count. Lewis County trail system can be used for hiking, mountain biking and ATVing, if you get your permit in advance of your visit. (available from Lewis County Chamber of Commerce, ATV must be registered vehicle in NYS or where you reside)
What makes this Cabin unique
The driveway winds down from a clearing into a beautiful mature wooded setting. The river is a constant visual whether your on the porch or down by the river. The sights and sounds soothe the soul. Unlike lake living, there is separation from neighboring camps, a 14 acre camp on one side and 16 acre island camp on the other. No neighbors across the river, just beautiful woods. The covered porch is a great place rain or shine to share a cup of joe in the morning or a glass of vino in the evening. On most days you can bask in the sun at the end of the day as the sun sets over the river. The 2 double hammocks looking over the water are a nice place to chill at the end of the day.

Lovely well maintained property
My husband, son and I were looking for a place to get away from it all and Rio Verde completely fit the bill! The location next to the river is perfect and the house is beautiful; lots of wood, granite countertops and a very comfy bed. We like to cook and the kitchen is equipped with everything one could want or need. As a bonus, the house is even "off the grid" which intrigued my engineer husband and son. The weather was quite hot when we were there (mid-August) so we didn't use the fireplace but I can imagine it being nice and cozy in chillier weather. We really enjoyed exploring the area hiking, swimming in the river, visiting local restaurants, farmers markets and a cheese shop. Our visit coincided with the New York State Fair so we drove about two hours to Syracuse to visit. All in all, we had the perfect vacation with just enough activity and the right amount of relaxation. I would highly recommend Rio Verde if you are considering exploring the wild beauty of the Adirondacks.
If you’d like to get away from it all while still enjoying all the comfort that you’d expect from a well appointed cabin, this is the place to go.
We very much enjoyed our stay despite some rainy days, taking full advantage of the covered porch. It was wonderful to relax to the tunre of the ebb and flow of the Independence river, and during the sunny periods, we went exploring some of the beautiful hiking tralis nearby. Many thanks to Larry for welcoming us to his home and for providing all the inside knowledge about the area that made our stay so much fun and memorable.
Great lodge over the Independence river in foothills of Adirondack
My husband, I and our dog Urchin spent a week in August (20-27) in the Adirondack in a really very private and relaxing setting over the Independence river. I found the property after extensive search, looking for quite, well appointed place with an easy access to water because my dog loves water and I wanted for us and her to have a relaxing time and for her to enjoy a life without leash. We found everything we were looking for in this particular property and were not disappointed! the property and cabin look better in reality than on pictures. It is a truly place where you can relax, go skinny-dipping in the river (if water is high enough), build a fire at the edge of river, explore the woods along river. The lodge is well equipped in all what you would need to prepare a good meal, fully sacked kitchen with a lot of kitchenware. We cooked our breakfast there and once a late dinner (missed closing time at the restaurant). The lodge is clean, smells great and is very well kept. It is perfect size for 2 people or couple with children. There is a bedroom in the loft with very comfortable bed and queen size futon in the living room, great for watching movies from the extensive DVD library at night, when not watching a spectacular night sky (Milky Way visible there!). I like to read at night and the lodge has plenty of strategically placed reading lamps, which I was extremely pleased with! The electricity to the lodge is provided via solar panels and, if needed, via generator. We had one cloudy, rainy day during our stay but we did not need generator. We were living for a week out of grid and feeling great about it, it did not mean we were deprived of any creature comforts. The forest around the lodge and property is beautiful, with mature conifer and hardwood trees; pine sap scent everywhere. After one day of rain we had a lot of mushroom growing in the nearby woods and I found some porcini, which we cooked.
We explored local wilderness every day, kayaked on the lakes and went on numerous hikes. Good swimming place is not far from Lodge in the Sandy Pond (look for public access Bull Road, a dirt road). The restaurant in Brantingham, Pine Tree Inn, was nice for catching a meal and a pint.
We had a great time on our vacation and were reluctant to go home!
Thank you Larry for letting us use your retreat place.

A perfect quiet retreat on the Independence River
We spent a week at Camp Rio Vista and didn't want to leave! This secluded pet-friendly cabin on the Independence River offers a perfect blend of privacy and seclusion with all the modern amenities. From the Adirondack style open floor plan with newer appliances to the gorgeous view of the river a few feet away, we couldn't have asked for a better location.
The cabin ets self is smaller
Loved it !
My family spent a week at this cabin and had a great time. It was so peaceful and quiet . We spent most of our time by the river and the campfire, we went for morning runs and never saw another person . The cabin was clean and fully stocked . What a beautiful spot !
Most peaceful vacation we have ever had!!
We spent a week at this beautiful property and it was exactly what we were looking for. We fished, sat in the river, enjoyed the campfire and made some of the best meals in the well stocked kitchen. Hard to believe this property is off grid since we had all the amenities you would have on grid. The privacy and serenity are unbelievable. Thanks again Larry for sharing this special place with us.
