About Alison Magee

I purchased Alsoneiro with a view that I wanted to have a small slice of the paradise that is Crete. Since then it has become my passion and guests who have stayed, return time and time again. I can help with any activities from Cycling Tours, Walking Tours, Diving and Horse-riding. Everything is available for your enjoyment and I love investigating new activities as requested by my guests. Dietary requirements are also catered for and I have an extensive knowledge of local Tavernas and Supermarkets offering Gluten Free, Lactose Products etc

Alison Magee purchased this villa in 2004

Why Alison Magee chose Apokoronos

I bought the Villa in 2004 after falling in love with Crete and the hospitality of the local people. The location on the Kambia (upper Plaka) with its stunning views, just took my breath away right from the start. I knew this location would be perfect as my family grew up.

What makes this villa unique

The lovely views from the balcony are one of the most common points mentioned, when guests return from their holiday. Also featured is the hospitality of the locals and the fresh and healthy food offered by the Taverna's across the area. Many of my guests return year on year and are never disappointed.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday in Crete last summer. The villa is a perfect bolt hole for people who want peace and quiet but not being too far away for village life, decent restaurants and great beaches.

I would highly recommend a visit to war graves in Souda bay and the just up the road is great bakery. We hired a car and travelled all over the island the villa is in the perfect location to join the national highway. Whilst travelling around we found some delightful villages in the mountains and some isolated tavernas one of which was at the top of mountain near Platanias with stunning views and the best greek food ever.

The villa is well maintained and had everything that we required the side garden is a real suntrap and the swimming pool was great. I would highly recommend holidaying at your villa and will undoubtedly return again.

Lovely villa in a beautiful area

  • 5 of 5

The villa has everything you need and is so tranquil and relaxing we found it difficult to drag ourselves away from the pool and explore further afield. The village has three excellent tavernas, a bakery and a supermarket that despite being small had everything in there you could ever need, and was also open to 9pm on Sundays. All the tavernas were excellent better than almyrida and only a short walk if you can manage a very short but steep hill. Horokopus was the cheapest but we also enjoyed Elpis as the staff were lovely and their Greek night was good fun. We preferred Kalives beach as it was bigger than Almyrida and had good snorkeling. If you want a lazy holiday without seeing the sights you can manage without a car as there is a good taxi service, if you want to explore and see different beaches you will need one. Alison was incredibly helpful with tips and support as was Karen and her team. Only suggestion would be if you need to style your hair take your own hair dryer as the one provided is not powerful. We would love to come back here as the area is beautiful and the people friendly and welcoming

Great villa for a family holiday

  • 5 of 5

A comfortable, well equipped villa with plenty of outside space and furniture for relaxing and dining. Lovely views from the balcony.

The pool is also very good, although the depth is 1.6m at all points so not really suitable for non-swimmers or very young children. My boys, aged 8 and 10 loved it.

The villa is conveniently located with a number of welcoming family-friendly restaurants within walking distance and many more just a short drive away.

We look forward to returning.

Clean, comfortable, quiet.

  • 4 of 5

We were impressed by the living area/ kitchen. Very useable and relaxing. Arrived in a heatwave so the pool was well used although it was unfortunate that most of us were unable to touch the bottom. Two good outside eating areas, we had no meals indoors. The whole villa was exceptionally clean on our arrival. It is a pity the approach road is in such terrible condition.

I personally found the lack of handrails both by the outside steps and by the indoor staircase frustrating as my mobility is somewhat limited. Small niggles...one tiny glass chopping board, no tray and a selection of blunt kitchen knives and scissors. All in all though we had a wonderful holiday here and would thoroughly recommend it.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your feedback. I am glad you enjoyed your holiday, your feedback is invaluable and I will take steps to replace the tray as I didn't realise it was missing. I will also replace the kitchen knives now I am aware. Sadly the approach to the Villa is a matter for the local residents of the area and we have been campaigning to get the road finished but as with all things Greek, it's a slow process. I am glad you enjoyed your stay and will look forward to welcoming you back.

Lovely Family Holiday

  • 4 of 5

Villa indeed was very spacious, lovely front and back sitting areas/bbq. Favorite of ours - bedroom balcony overlooking Souda Bay in the distance. Property very clean, starter pack in fridge much appreciated and all there that you needed. Wifi was a bonus, books and games on the side welcome entertainment for evenings. Walked down to village to eat at Takis Restaurant frequently - steep short-cut leads down to village (just behind garden). Supermarket nearby, bar and other restaurants in village or further down the hill in Almyrida.

We would recommend property to small group of friends (4) or small family for a quiet holiday in lovely surrounding. Rental Car a must.

A Relaxing Get Away

  • 5 of 5

There was a group of 4 of us together looking to get away from everything. We were looking for sun, to unwind it a peaceful place and the option to explore; the villa and town gave us everything we expected. Clean, spacious and glorious views we felt very lucky to have found this gem. Well worth booking. We can't think of anything negative about our experience only that we didn't book a second week.

Samaria Gorge - Located 1.45 hr drive and is situated in the National park of Samaria. The Gorge is considered one of the great attractions of Crete visit it. It is not for the feint hearted as it is a 5 to 7 hours walk on rough terrain, you will need to have a certain degree of fitness and walking experience in order to enjoy it.

Lake Kournas - is the only freshwater lake in Crete and features within a beautiful landscape, lying in a valley among the hills, about 4 km from Georgioupolis

Lappa Springs, Argyroupolis - Approx 45 min drive from Plaka. Well worth the visit to experience the lovely waterfalls of Lappa which are surrounded by pretty Tavernas with the water running through them. Fresh water Trout and other fish of interest can be seen in the various pools where the water cascades down the valley

The Glass Blowing Factory is located 2 miles from Plaka in the nearby village Kokkino Chorio . Established many years ago the kiln from the early days is now decoratively integrated in the shop, and been replaced by a larger, more modern oven. Here you can buy some beautiful creations to take home as a souvenir of your trip
