I am half Maltese and I have been visiting the Islands since birth and see it as my second home. I currently live and work in Dubai and visit Gozo as often as possible. I was born in the UK. I have a sister and brother both residing in the UK. My mother is Maltese and is an artist. My father is retired. My parents live on Malta and also own a property on Gozo. I have a little boy who adores Gozo and loves to visit his Nanna. Summer is a special time with our family on Malta and Gozo.
Owner purchased this House in 2005
Why Owner chose Xagħra
I always wanted a property on Gozo and had just one week in which to find one! I lost count of how many I saw. This was the last one and it was perfect. Great size, all the characteristics of a Malese home with all the mod cons. A large pool area which is private and in a great location. I just love Xaghra, its has all you need and makes the perfect hub to explore Gozo.
What makes this House unique
The Villa has all the characteristics of the old Maltese homes I remembered as a child. Its in a very quiet location has plenty of space and it just the perfect retreat from the busy life I lead. Xaghra is a delightful village, the square is a short walk from the property. I just love enjoying a glass of Gellewza over lunch with friends in one of the many restaurants in the square. Then returning to the villa for a swim!

We had a very relaxing holiday. House was as described and pool was always warm.
The house was very nice and comfortable. Pool was fantastic and always warm due to its good location. The only thing which we did not enjoy was the lack of nets in the windows and especially in the living area which is not air -conditioned . Cleanliness could have been better but otherwise ok, it was fairly clean. Plenty of living space and kids enjoyed the games. I would recommend it.
More than a holiday accomodation it felt like home! This Villa has everything to make you feel home!
We had an amzing stay in this Villa! The photos do not do any justice to the charm of this property. The outdoor areas are very spacious and well equipped with sunbeds, umbrella, table, chairs, sofas and a functioning gas BBQ. The rooms are well sized with clean linens, towels and beach towels. The host was so kind to provide us with fresh milk, sandwich, butter, cheese and ham. This Villa has all the bits and pieces to make you feel home with two stoves, two TV's with DVD players, speakers, washing machine etc. All bedrooms have the comfort of an AC and private bathrooms which makes it ideal for privacy too. In few words we look forward for our next stay in this amazing property. Thanks also to the owner that made himself always very responsive and helpful! Well done! Keep it up!
Beautiful spacious villa in lively little town
Tha villa was a very good size with plenty of space in doors an out. Very quirky with lots of lovely artwork Well equipped kitchen. Plenty of books and dvds although didn't need to watch any. Great little town square 10 min walk away with great restaurants and bars.
Slight negative -would benefit from a little TLC and could have been cleaner but these are minor points. We had a great time
The villa is tardis like, it looks small from the outside but its massive once you get in. We had everything we needed while we were there.
We hired a car and it gave us more flexibility so get around and see more sites. The villa is only 10 minutes walk into Xaghra and there are shops, butchers, bars and restaurants. The top floor bedroom is gorgeous with a massive bed, great views and a big bath.
I would definitely book this Villa again if we were going to Gozo.
Five star accommodation in a quiet village yet within walking distance of the busy village square.
This villa exceeded all expectations. It was beautiful, all arches and corners, with a grand staircase to the first floor and quirky spiral stone staircase to the top master suite. The two other bedrooms each had a wet room. Although very large, the furnishings, pictures and wall hangings made it cosy and comfortable. The large kitchen, open to the lounge, was well equipped. The pool and outside area caught the sun for most of the day and the spacious roof terrace added an extra place to relax. A small ‘snug’ gave the kids a place of their own to watch tv or use iPads.
The village is on top of a hill and the roads up are steep. There are some lovely views. It is a very quick drive to Victoria and Ramla beach. Of course, no where is far away on Gozo. The village square with shop and restaurants is a few minutes walk away.
We really liked Gozo. It was very clean and much quieter than Malta.
We highly recommend this villa and would love to stay there again.
The key feature we search for when booking family accommodation during August in the Mediterranean is air conditioning. This property was advertised as having air conditioning, which it does, but at an additional and expensive cost using electricity cards which seem to be available only via the owner's maid. On arriving in the middle of a heatwave, this piece of information would have been most useful ahead of arriving, better still, ahead of making the booking in the first place. It's an expensive way and seemingly outdated way of buying electricity as we were unable to buy the cards over the counter.
This is undoubtedly a lovely property but certainly requires a bit more attention to detail to be fully enjoyed.
The Ac system operates on a card system to encourage guests to switch the units off when not required. I appreciate that we all can forget to turn of units when on holiday. The problem that can arise is the units ice up and stop working properly, having to be left for several hours before normal operation can occur.
It is stated on my listing that the AC's work on prepaid cards. However, I can see that it could be over looked when viewing information on the villa and am now informing all guests about the AC cards..I am also providing 3 complimentary cards for the AC's on arrival so no inconvenience is caused to the start of the holiday. Re: this review the guests received complimentary AC cards for any inconvenience caused on arrival.

Malta International Airport is located on the mainland which is easily accessed by ferry or sea plane. The ferry carries cars and the crossing is only 20 minutes long. The ferry departs from Cirkewwa on Malta to Mgarr Harbour on Gozo. Car hire is recomended and is easily available. Mgarr is about 3 miles from Xaghara. From Cirkewwa Malta airport is about 15 miles. Busses and taxis do operate from the airport to Cickewwa and also from Mgarr to Xaghara.
Victoria is the capital of Gozo, formally called Rabat, it is approximately 3 miles from Xaghra.
Xaghra has 2 banks one with a cash point machine (HSBC) in the square, several supermarkets, shops, chemists and restaurants. The square boasts the largest number of bars and restaurants on the island over looked by the beautiful church which celebrates its fiesta the first weekend in September. Many guests comment on the ambiance of the square all year round. Ggantija neolithic temples, historical windmill and Xerri's grotto are also all within walking distance of the villa. Xaghra is one of the most popular desitinations for european tourists on the island. Due to its facilities and location.
