Only 5 blocks to the local music scene and 6 blocks to the heart of the French Quarter this property provides a truly local experience. This property has 2 beds, 2 baths and all the amenities to make you feel right at home! Bookings during Mardi Gras and some festivals require a 4-night minimum. Great for couples and families traveling together as there is also an option to rent the other half of the duplex as well!

The space

1223 Frenchmen boasts a Queen Bed Master with ensuite bathroom and a queen bed room with easy access to the bathroom via the hallway. Perfect for two couples traveling together or a family of 4. A fully furnished kitchen, toiletries, robes, sound machines, alarm clocks with phone chargers, washer/dryer, coffee maker and a great backyard space are just a few of the well-thought out amenities provided during your stay.

Guest access

Guests will have access to the 1223 side of the duplex. The backyard has a private seating area on each side but also a shared space in the backyard as well.

Interaction with guests

Jordan will be on-site for luggage drop off, guest check-ins, and check-outs (as needed) as well as on call during your entire stay for any issues or questions that may arise!

Other things to note

Out of respect for our neighbors we do not accept Bachelor/Bachelorette parties at this time.

There is a 4 day minimum during Mardi Gras, Jazzfest and other large Festivals!

The Neighborhood

With a history of 300 years New Orleans is known for preserving the past as much as possible and that shows throughout this neighborhood where many of the homes have been newly renovated or are in the process of being renovated to maintain their unique "shotgun" style and look. To a visitor the bright colors used might seem odd but the variety of colors and mismatched housing styles tend to add to the charm of the neighborhood.

Unlike many cities it is very normal here to say hello and talk to people as they walk by on the sidewalk and streets! Southern hospitality is alive and strong! So, don’t be shy and you will feel like a true local when visiting.

This neighborhood is also very close to the French Quarter where “big city” common sense can prevail when it comes to safety as well. If you’re unsure or worried about anything just let me know and I am more than happy to provide even more advice!

Getting around

Parking on the street is available but renting a car is not necessary for your visit. Uber and Lyft are both available through out the city and the property is only a block away from the new up and running Rampart Streetcar Line!

About Jordan Ivey

Hello! I am Jordan, the property manger, for this beautiful rental. The owners, Stuart and Amy Bakay, purchased this house in 2016 and have renovated it beautifully while maintaining many original features! Having lived here for almost five years now I really enjoy sharing "My New Orleans."

Jordan Ivey purchased this house in 2016

Why Jordan Ivey chose South 7th Ward

The Bakay's are local to New Orleans and hope to one day retire to this house. You are surrounded by great long-term neighbors and good friends of ours, please say hello when you see them outside.

This house was built in 1892 and we had the honor of renovating/restoring it in 2016. We hope that you enjoy all the amenities of a new house with the charm of an original New Orleans Greek Revival.

What makes this house unique

Only 5 blocks to the local music scene and 6 blocks to the heart of the French Quarter this property provides a truly local experience.

Guestbook comments from the manager

The house was amazing! Better than expected! Karen was a stellar host. Although we didn't need much, she checked in with us periodically to make sure we were comfortable and to remind us to just ask if we had questions. We had an excellent time in NOLA and would stay at this property again in the future. Thanks tons, Karen!

Great few days in NOLA!

  • 5 of 5

Property was great and an easy walk to the Quarter and other attractions. Had a real neighborhood feel and we enjoyed sitting on the porch chatting with neighbors. Accommodated 2 couples well and had everything we needed. Lots of character all around us in architecture, people and culture. We had a great visit to one of the best cities in the world!!

Great location and very nice property

  • 4 of 5

Overall, we had a terrific stay at this property. The location was great for us - only a few blocks to the venues on Frenchmen Street. It is further to downtown areas and we made the walk daily. There is a trolley stop very close to the house and that was also convenient to hop on.

The inside of the property was very nice - clean and had everything we wanted available to us. Jordan, the property manager, was great to deal with and met us very late our first night to get us acquainted with the home.

There were only two drawbacks to the property from our perspective:

1. The wall separating the two units is very thin. We aren't people who stay up late and the noise from the adjoining unit was annoying to us. Not that big a deal for a lot of folks, but it did bother us. There are white noise machines provided in both bedrooms and those helped.

2. The unit has plug-in air freshners in every room and the odor was pervasive. We unplugged them all on our first day at the home. Yet, we've been home for a few days now and our clothes and luggage still smell like the air freshners. Again, possibly not a big deal for others but we found it to be overpowering.

Overall, a very nice property and we would recommend it to others!

Jordan was very accommodating, very clean and well kept. It was a perfect location for us, near Frenchman street and all the location we wanted to see we're in walking distance. Having access to a streetcar was very close and convenient too.

Beautiful property centrally located

  • 5 of 5

We had such a great time at this property. It is beautiful and immaculate. It had everything we needed. Karen was great. She met us at the property and provided a wealth of information. She continued to provide us with tips and information throughout the weekend - which was wonderful. Should we come back to NOLA, we wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.
