Apartment in Ortigia, Siracusa, Sicily - on the historic Island of Ortigia.

Why Ann Gordon chose Ortigia
Ortigia is easy to cover on foot and many people just stay there. In Siracusa there is a train station and coach station if you wanted to visit other parts of Sicily. It is also possible to hire a car, but be aware there are parking restrictions on Ortigia island, and a car would need to be parked in one of the main car parks rather than outside the house. There is also a little electric bus that stops immediately outside the house to take you around the island.
What makes this Apartment unique
Ortigia is a real gem - we found it almost by default when we stayed in an awful hotel 10 kilometres away and then moved to the centre - we found real hidden treasure! A “city” with a cathedral square which can compete with many a more famous Italian cathedral square, a spectacular history which jumps out and hits you in the face at every corner you turn, architecture and culture seeping from every building PLUS wonderful Sicilian food and wine - so many choices of good and reasonable restaurants you will never tire! - brilliant weather and seasons to choose from, sparkling seas around the island and views to cherish. “Venice without the canals” - might sound fanciable but come and see what we mean. So why not come and really get under the skin of the place. Rent our Casa Marliana, shop in the local market, (said to be second only to Palermo’s famous markets) and live like a local. And when you have had enough of Ortigia (you won’t - the magic is in the everyday things!), it’s a great base to visit other Sicilian Baroque wonders - Notto, Ragusa, Modica etc. etc. Casa Marliana is right on the sea - swim from the rocks - or if you come in summer swim from the delightfully old fashioned Solarium constructed every year.

Both Ann and Enrico were great. Enrico couldn’t have been more helpful. The apartment location was wonderful, and Ann has done a great job fitting it out with everything one might need.....as well as creating a great atmosphere for being in the old city of ortigia. Highly recommended.
Thank you Jane - we loved having you! Tell all your friends! Come again! Xx Ann
Quiet, relaxing, magnificent views
Nicely decorated, well located property with a well protected inner courtyard, fireplace and roof terrace. Not too many stairs, very close to Don Camilo restaurant- and many other interesting and delicious locations. Loved it, I hope the bubble of calm stays with me for a while as I return to real life.
Thanks Cynthia and glad you had a great stay! Do come again! Ann
Perfectly situated, authentic and attractive apartment
This was our first venture into Sicily and we were not disappointed. Despite a heatwave with temperatures constantly in the upper 30s we got up early to explore the incredible Greek and Roman archaeological sites, Etna and Taormina returning to swim from the platform just opposite the apartment. Our twins aged 8 had an amazing time - they loved the platform and the lido we used just a few minutes away - oh and also the waterpark. We ate in some lovely restaurants - enjoyed fresh fish and italian ice cream and generally just relaxed! The apartment is well equipped though I would have liked a larger a kitchen for the times we stayed in to eat - but it is very authentic, very homely and has the benefit of air conditioning in the bedrooms which for the weeks we were there was an absolute saviour! Ann was a most attentive and thoughtful owner and made things very easy for us. Thank you.
Thanks for your nice review David and thanks for looking after the flat. Yes the kitchen is small but adequate for holiday cooking. We love all the restaurants so another excuse to try as many as possible! Come again sometime! Ann
My friend and I had a wonderful stay in this apartment. It was exactly as described and was very clean and comfortable and furnished to a high standard - wonderfully comfy beds. We never got tired with the view from the roof terrace and spent many evenings there with a glass of wine. The apartment is so convenient for exploring Ortigia with many very good restaurants close by. Ann Gordon was an extremely helpful owner and responded to our every question quickly. I would certainly recommend this apartment.
So glad you had a good time Hilary! Ortigia is a wonderful spot and, as you say, it's difficult to drag yourself away from the lovely view! Thank you for enjoying our second home! Ann
Fabulous location with very comfortable surroundings
Our 2 bedroom Ortigia apartment was perfect! Most comfortable bed we have slept in in Italy! The location is convenient to everything. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and highly recommend. The only drawback is there are 3 levels of stairs and the main view is on the third level. We rarely took advantage of this as we "lived" on the first two floors. The owner, Ann Gordon, was very thoughtful and kept in touch to be sure we were finding what we needed. She had great restaurant and site seeing suggestions readily available. A great spot to explore Sicily!
So glad you enjoyed your stay! It is a perfect spot for exploring SE Sicily! As the weather gets hotter though it's difficult to leave those views on the third floor! Do come again sometime! Ann
lovely apartment overlooking the sea
Four of us had a great time in Ortigua staying at Casa Marliana.
We especially loved the roof terrace- and much of our time at the apartment was spent here looking out over the sea, eating, drinking and talking. The apartment is beautiful, spacious, lots of living space, and a really great location. Kitchen tiny but opens onto living space so fine and we enjoyed shopping and cooking fresh produce from the market. No need to take guide books as there are plenty in the apartment. Ann the owner was really helpful in making the arrangements and ensuring we had the info that we needed.
We most enjoyed walking around Ortigua, getting to know its labyrinthine streets, the Duomo, the amazing food market, and the great array of restaurants bars and shops. Other highlights were days at Pantalica, Vendecari , Nuoto and at San Lorenzo beach.
So glad these guests enjoyed Casa Marliana. We are staying here now and the sunshine and atmosphere is so special. The market is a real highlight and takes you back to 1950s Sicily - we go,often and it's a highlight of our visits. The most difficult thing is to decide where to eat out for supper - many, many lovely restaurants, all within a few moments walk - come and try!
The apartment is right by the sea and there is swimming directly from the rocks and swimming platform. There are many fine beaches reachable by car or boat (in the summer, a ferry operates a regular service to a delightful local beach).
The nearest airport is Catania (one hour's drive). Comiso airport is about an hour and a half away.
