Villa in Santa Catarina Fonte do Bispo, Eastern Algarve, Portugal - Beach 15 mins. Airport 25 mins. Peacefull location but diverse amenities easily accessible
Brian Kilcline, thats me. A former professional footballer with Notts County, Coventry City and Newcastle Utd. Now you're more likely to find me picking carobs or shaking olives out of the trees at our Portuguese holiday rental, or mud caked on a building site in England, than kicking a football. I love the laid back lifestyle in Portugal and Lynn loves the gardening and we have both enjoyed our venture there into holiday lettings. Holmfirth is home, we have had property in the village for twenty years. We enjoy the change of pace and everything the area has to offer but in either destination we are surrounded by stunning countryside.
Brian purchased this Cottage in 2006
Why Brian chose Tavira
We bought the property as a renovation project and it was certainly a learning curve. We realised very quickly how lucky we had been in our choice, not for the obvious reasons of the property potential but its proximity to sea, airport and shops whilst maintaining a countryside feel. We are relatively easy to find and access is off a main tarmac road onto a concrete flat top, that is a tremendous advantage both for your vehicle and in the winter. We can be at the village bakery in 5mins. International supermarket in 10mins and paddling in the sea in 15 mins. All that and a beautiful garden and panoramic views of the countryside. Can't be bad! We decided to put our little adjoining cottage on the rental market 2 years ago it was a shame not to let others enjoy what we have.
What makes this Cottage unique
Along with everyone who has stayed with us, family and guests alike, the main reaction is 'the peace, its so relaxing.' We feel that way too. Some people never leave the garden even when we supply endless possibilities of events, scenic attractions or restaurants. Then there is 'the bar', at the bottom of our drive. We were too shy to go in at first. Speaking no Portuguese and clearly a meeting place for neighbours we felt really out of place. How could we have been so daft? Owners Joaquim and Vivalinda and all the locals are smashing. Always a welcome smile and tip of the hat regardless of language ability. Joaquim ready with the jump leads and the tractor when the car won't start. If you forget the milk or eggs there is a little store in the back with all sorts. Beer at 75c beat that!

Away from it all - but not too far!
A lovely cottage and annexe surrounded by beautiful countryside. Lynn and Brian are excellent hosts. They live within the same grounds, but don't intrude, although are always available for travel tips, restaurant advice etc.
If you're looking for a quiet relaxing break, then give this a whirl!
We had such a lovely time in their annex, Brian and Lynne could not have done more for us without being intrusive. We took up their offer to cycle a 40k route, a slow pace i am glad to say ! I also played walking football with Brian, such a privilege to play with an ex footballer, he hasn't lost his touch.
Overall a fantastic holiday experience, great company yet relaxing and peaceful, perfect location, not too far to Tavira, a lovely town and beaches. we will be back.

Beautiful little cottage in a beautiful place with lovely hosts!
My boyfriend and I recently spent one week at the cottage and had a fantastic time. The house is small but perfectly formed with a kitchen/living space, double bedroom, bathroom and storage space. The best part is the gorgeous garden where there are chairs and tables and loungers if you don't want to use the bigger space, which includes a pool which Brian and Lynn make available for you.
Brian and Lynn are lovely people - so friendly and welcoming. They are full of ideas of things to do and are on hand if you need anything without being intrusive. Lynn's creativity has made the whole place really special - she is a master with the mosaic and has taken the time to include little details that make all the difference. Make sure you ask Brian to take you down to the pub at the bottom of the drive - its full of colourful characters and is cheap as chips.
The cottage was a great place to use as a base to see southern Portugal. About 30-40mins from Faro and then about an hour or so to the beaches of the Algarve. Lots of pretty towns nearby too including Olhao and Tivera. I think the one thing we missed was being able to walk to a little village or a restaurant easily but there are supermarkets and shops 10-15mins drive away for supplies.
If its free get it booked - you will not regret it!
Our little bit of paradise
Just half an hour from the airport and you're there! Lynn was waiting for us with a very warm welcome and a cup of tea and a chat. The Cottage was set in it's own private garden with shaded seating areas (great in the mid 30 deg heat) and sunny spots with nice sun loungers. Inside was lovely and cool with a very well equipped kitchen, nice bathroom with shower and the bedroom had very comfy big bed.
Further up in the quirky main garden with deck chairs and more sun beds was the fab little pool - ALL OURS - just perfect for cooling down! Beautiful views on the hill top and peace and quiet.
Just down the drive is a bar - VERY LAID BACK - horizontal he he, as the locals are so easy-going (snoozing) and the beer cheap (3 euros for 2 beers and a small glass wine).
Brian found time in between bike rides (Lynn too) and walking football (I also had a go -really enjoyed it) to escort us to the bar and a festival in the village. Nicer hosts you could not find who we now think of as friends.
Venture up into the hills or down to the coast its and absolutely beautiful region of Portugal not that far from the Spanish border.
Because of all the reasons above, this holiday was very special to us and we will definitely be going back. Thoroughly recommended!

What a pair! We had smiles, torment and tea.
Always a warm welcome waiting for you both here and in Yorkshire. Bless you both.
An ideal spot for a quiet getaway in the countryside of the Algarve.
A perfect spot if you're looking for some peace and quiet away from the major tourist areas. Close enough to a number of towns and villages that you can explore for an hour or two if that takes your fancy or alternatively just sit in either the main garden by the pool or your own private garden and relax. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and Lynn and Brian were always on hand to give local advice when needed and helped us to make the most of our stay. Fantastic hosts and made us feel very welcome during our stay.
Wonderful cottage with wonderful hosts
What a pleasant stay this was in Algarve! The cottage was perfect for the 4 of us, maybe a bit warm in the annex room, but the airco did a proper job. I adored the way the cottage was decorated, with all kinds of peculiarities in every little corner.
Brian and Lynn are amazing, charming, funny, really perfect hosts, always available when you need them, but never disturbing your privacy.
We will keep nice memories of this place!
