extremely nice appartment situated in a lovely area.
Karen apartment is beautiful and spacious. No issue whilst on our stay, with the complex kept in great order.
The kids loved the swimming pool and there were plenty of sunbeds.
All in all a very lovely 2 week holiday and I will probably book this apartment again.
Third stay in this beautiful complex. First time staying in Karen’s penthouse and was very impressed. Beautifully decorated it was a home from home. The apartment has wifi which was excellent for my teenage daughter. It is a short 10min walk into town but sure we're on hols and there's no hurry. There is a local bar/restaurant at the bottom of the steps if you are feeling the need for refreshments. We had dinner here one evening and it was very good. Loads of excellent restaurants in Tavira, some needing you to book in advance. Personally we have stayed in two other complex in Tavira but this is definitely the best. Thank you Karen
Another fantastic stay at this lovely complex!
Have just returned from a great holiday staying in this apartment. The property is lovely and well appointed for a very comfortable stay. Booking was very easy with Karen and her local agent, Dulce, was a pleasure to deal with. The property has all the facilities that you need and was lovely and clean on arrival. Yes, we did have to wait a couple of days for internet connection to be arranged by Dulce, but I understand the owner, Karen, is in the process of installing WiFi. This didn't cause us a problem because we were on holiday after all and it was only my teenage daughter who eagerly awaiting the internet connection! I just needed it to check on the dog in the kennels!!
There was the occasional noise from the lawns/hedges being cut, but that is the price you pay for staying in such a well maintained complex. The fairies don't come in overnight to do it! Many thanks Karen for purchasing some new, lightweight sunloungers which were easy to carry down to the pool area from the apartment and meant no need to worry about somewhere available to sit. The roof terrace also provided a lovely area to sit and dine outside.
This was our second time holiday in Tavira (and this complex) and I can confirm that the walk into town (whichever side of the river you chose to walk) takes only approximately 10 minutes. There are several steps back up to the complex but not if you take a 5 min (5 euro) taxi ride home! The town centre is gorgeous with lovey, local evening entertainment in the square during our stay and lots of fantastic restaurants (during busy periods you need to pre-book a table.) There is a superb local market across town that we loved to frequent to buy fresh fish etc. Tavira is a charming, traditional Portuguese town. There is a local ferry (2 euro return) out to the beach island which is gorgeous and also has some lovely fish restaurants. The fact you get a ferry out makes a trip to the beach an enjoyable 'day out' and takes about 20 minutes each way. We also took advantage of being so close to the Spanish border and booked a coach tour (in Tavira town) to Seville. Well worth a visit but extremely hot. We arrived by 10am and the temperature was showing 42c.Gorgeous city though and we would love to return when it's a bit cooler!
We wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. However, the world is a big place, though I'd like to think we'd return to this property again some day.
Not what we expected
Although the apartment was beautifully appointed, our stay was disappointing. Firstly, we did not have the Internet connection expected. After complaining, this was eventually resolved on the afternoon of day 4 of our holiday. There was building work taking place in the next door but one apartment, involving walls being knocked down and floor tiles being cut up on a daily basis. The gardeners on site trimmed the hedges, mowed lawns and strimmed, also on a daily basis, and the constant noise spoiled what was supposed to be a quiet and relaxing holiday. During our 7 days at the apartment, we only had one day without noise when we could relax in peace. The beds and pillows in the apartment were very uncomfortable making sleep difficult and if we did manage to drop off then we were awoken by the dogs outside barking continuously every night. The communal pool was very nice but there were only seven sun loungers, no chairs and no umbrellas so it was difficult to enjoy a swim and then relax by the pool. We spent a lot of time on the roof terrace which was very nice and the quietest place we could find. The walk into the town was extremely hazardous down some very steep steps with no handrails in places and the walk by road was at least 30 minutes. We used taxis to get to and from the town and the journey by taxi was at least 10 minutes and cost about 5€ a trip. Would recommend a car for anyone staying at this apartment as there are no shops within easy walking distance.
Hi Iam sorry you didn't enjoy your stay. I checked with my agent who informed me at the time ye were there that my neighbours were not doing any repairs to the apt next to ours as they both had renters in.She enquired from other renters in the complex about noise and they didn't hear any.My husband and I walk down to the town every time we are there in 10 minutes not 30 minutes as you have written in you review.Yes there is steps coming back up but as you say there is taxi for just 5 euros to bring people back up who don't feel like walking. The taxi takes less than 5 minutes from the town. The beds and pillows are new in the apt so disappointed you didn't find them to your liking .I will let our management company know about the lack of sun loungers and Iam surprised it took 6 days to cut the lawn and hedges as the complex is small and I know when Iam there they do it all in a few hours.I will check with the management company why they were cutting the hedges on a daily basis. As For the internet in our phone conversation I informed you to let my agent know in advance if you require it and I checked with her and you didn't book in advance for it so hence the delay. In all my 8 years owning the apt I;ve never had a complaint about dogs barking all night as there is a law in Portugal that dogs have to be put in at night so neighbours abide by this rule.
We went to Portugal on a family holiday. This apartment was amazing with it's beautiful roof terrace. The children loved the swimming pool and wonderful outside space.
The apartment is modern, spacious and has all modern conveniences. It was spotless clean.
The complex is within a few minute walk to the beautiful town of Tavira, with many pubs, restaurants, shopping and beach. The beach is on an small island beside Tavira and this is a stunning place with a wonderful beach, with restaurants/bars and soccer/sport for the kids.
We will definitely be back as this was truly a wonderful apartment and town. We would like to thank the lovely owners Karen & Pat who made the booking so easy.
"WOW" SPECTACULAR ACCOMODATION
We have stayed in alot of apartments/hotels in the Algarve over the years but never have we stayed in such a beautiful, modern, spacious, luxurious air conditioned penthouse apartment. This is our fifth time staying here and we love it so much that we wouldn't dream of staying anywhere else. It is spotlessly clean with all the modern facilities you need when you are on holiday with your family or friends. The kitchen is fully equiped for all the cooking you wish to do. The roof terrace is very private and comfortable with sunbeds and dining furniture and even a barbeque for those lazy nights when you just want to stay in and relax. The views over Tavira from the roof terrace are magnificant. The kids loved the pool, it is very clean and spacious and never overcrowded and the gardens are superbly maintained. Karen, the owner was so kind and helpful to us leading up to our visits and was a pleasure to deal with as she has such a comfortable way about her that nothing was too much trouble for her. Tavira is a wonderful quaint town and we just love it. We have already booked this apartment AGAIN for 2015.
The beaches in the Eastern Algarve are long and golden beaches with clear water which is the warmest in Portugal.
They are also EU Blue Flag beaches.
There are ferries which take only 5 mins to the island of Tavira, where the sandy beaches spread for miles and miles.
Santa Luzia is a small fishing village and the unspoilt beach there is called Barril.
Between Cacel and Vila Real Santo Antonio, the beach is an unbroken stretch with good car parking, cafes, and fish restaurants.
Tavira is only 35km from Faro airport. 2 hours drive to Seville and between 2.5-3 hours to Lisbon.
20 minutes drive to Ayomonte which is the nearest Spanish town. There are day trips down the Guardiana river, the boats leave from Vila Real Santo Antonio which is the furthest south eastern point of Portugal.
We recommend hiring a car, and can help with the bookings, if necessary. Taxi service is generally good in Tavira.
Tavira town is a 5 minute walk or 1 minute by car. There is free parking on the edge of town, and from there a short walk to the Roman bridge. Tavira is known as "Little Venice" or the Gem of the East Algarve, because of the bridge and the river Gilao running through the town connecting both sides with tall palm trees. The capitol is Faro which takes 30 minutes by car on the motorway or on the N125 through the town of Olhao with its new Marina.
There are 4 supermarkets, a municipal market with fresh fish, fruit, vegetables, pulses, and all the local produce.
During the summer months there are outdoor concerts and many other festivities.
Many charming riverside restaurants and cafes for outdoor dining or just relaxing with a glass of regional wine or beer. A Tourist information office. Numerous banks. Railway and bus stations.
