A variety of spaces make this an excellent venue for groups as does its central position within England. A footpath leading to the delightful village of Bidford on Avon passes in front of the cottage (1 mile) with its shops, pubs and a supermarket. If one carries on over the bridge, a further mile, will bring you to a great little village pub the Cottage of Content at Barton. Cheerful and welcoming! In the other direction a path rises up above the village and can be followed to the delightful village of Cleeve Prior. There you will find a beautiful 15th century church and equally old pub, The Kings Arms. With its beams, log fires, real ale and great food it is everyone's idea of an English Country Pub. There is a quiet route through the lanes to the Stratford Greenway which give cycle access to Stratford on Avon. The River Avon itself is only a few hundred metres walk and children delight in helping the boats navigate the lock at Marlcliff. Some guests even do a spot of fishing.

About geoff gent
Retired now after 39 years at the chalk face (teaching), The Hamlet was my family home for 25 years. I worked hard to create an attractive, fertile organic garden which I was loathe to give up when I relocated to a smaller property in Evesham. I just moved out and left everything as it was! Consequently the house is very 'homely' and the garden green and productive! I've tried to make the home comfortable but not too 'precious' so that families with children and/or dogs would not feel too up tight during their stay. In retirement I've continued doing the garden and have been able to travel extensively usually on my bike! I will probably pop in to say hello and you may see me hoeing my veg garden but the large lawned gardens surrounding the house are exclusively for the use of guests.
geoff gent purchased this Cottage in 1980
Why geoff gent chose Alcester
I grew up in Birmingham and one of our special childhood treats was to catch the 148 bus from Moseley to Bidford on Avon and walk across the fields through Marlcliff and onto the teashop (now closed!) at Cleeve Prior. When the Hamlet came on the market in 1981 it had just been delightfully renovated, had large gardens and there were footpaths radiating from the cottage in many directions. Although in an essentially rural area it is only a short walk along the river or across the fields to Bidford on Avon which has plenty of 'facilities' There are some great bike rides, country and riverside walks from the cottage and all the charms of the Cotswold villages and countryside, and Stratford on Avon, within 10 miles.
What makes this Cottage unique
Some visitors just stay around the property. They read, cook, eat, walk, cycle, fish in the river, use the local pubs and shops and really chill out. Some have the above sorts of days but go into Stratford, Cheltenham, or Broadway to shop or 'do' the usual tourist things. There are a large number of National Trust Properties close by so members often get their money's worth and visit these. Guests with children usually visit Warwick Castle and Cadburys' World in Birmingham. Visitors from abroad often have frenetic days travelling to London, Bath, Oxford, Stone Henge etc. There is a direct train service to Oxford and London (Paddington) from Honeybourne only 4 miles away (free parking at station).

Wonderfully charming home to stay in!
We loved the cottage - it soon felt like home - very welcoming. The garden is beautiful, too and we had a couple of evenings out there, with lanterns and wine, just chatting until late. Great location - pretty walk along the river, just up the road - and close to beautiful places that we wanted to visit - Kiftsgate Gardens, Hidcote Gardens, Stow-on-the-Wold - and, of course, the fabulous RSC performance of King Lear in Stratford!
We would so love to be able to come again.
What a lovely review. So glad you enjoyed your stay and made the most of everything the cottage and the locality has to offer. Would love to host you again some time.
A wonderful, enchanting house and garden a stone's throw from the Avon
This house has beautiful gardens, including a lily pond edged with irises, lovely shrubs and blossoming trees, and wild and cultivated flowers. It is on the edge of a lovely village, Marcliff, and is a few minutes walk to the Avon, from where walks lead to a larger village, Bidford (a 10 minute stroll), as well as to Stratford (9 miles!)
The house has cozy public rooms and bedrooms, as well as many wonderful details redolent of a long life lived here.
We really loved our stay, and when back in the area will look out for this again!
Thanks for your lovely review. I didn't get to meet you all so maybe you'll come back again!
Beautiful house and garden. Felt very cosy and had everything we needed.
We felt very at home in the cottage and the owner kindly put up a cot for the baby in our group to sleep in. It's a very good size for 6 adults and the kitchen was very well equipped. We spent alot of time enjoying the garden too. The bathroom decor is a bit outdated but that just adds to the charm. Would happily stay again.
Thanks for a positive review. You were a lovely, cheerful , positive group who made the best use of everything the cottage had to offer, especially the garden. The bathroom is pretty dated but I like 'quirky' and as the bath and basin are so large I've decided to leave it as a sort of period feature for the time being.
Brilliant in all respects
Beautiful cottage presented in a very comfortable fashion with every possible thing one would need. Geoff was extremely helpful with directions and information. We had a lovely stay visiting with friends in the area and would highly recommend this lovely place. Thank You!
Really enjoyed hosting Matt and his mates who were all very friendly and interesting. They left the cottage spotlessly clean. Thanks for your positive review . Be good to see you again some time.
Lovely country cottage
Great for exploring the Cotswolds
Felt spacious and homely with 7 of us including the pooch
Good pubs and restaurants nearby, shout out to Cottage of Content; plenty of local towns/villages to visit Chipping Campden, Stratford-upon-Avon, Evesham etc
Relatives from Estonia thought it was fab, a real slice of English countryside
Must go back and hope the weather isn’t so rainy!!
Really enjoyed meeting you all and very impressed how are you all had a jolly time in spite of the freezing and wet spring weather.
Thanks for leaving everything so nice and clean . Thanks too for your very positive feedback on your stay Hope to see you again soon .
Beautiful cottage and had an amazing time with family. Perfect place for a party.
I had a surprise 80th birthday party at the cottage for my mom. Geoff had no problem with me decorating all the cottage and it looked beautiful with the Xmas tree up and all the lights. We had all the family there and had the best party ever. We later played games and drank hot chocolate by the beautiful log fire whilst listening to Xmas songs. It was perfect. We unfortunately had to leave early due to the snow as we were worried we would have difficulty getting back home. This was a shame as we were having such a lovely time. I would definitely recommend a stay here. The cottage is beautiful and a perfect place for family & friends to meet up and stay. There is everything you need there. Geoff the owner is so kind. It was lovely to meet you. Thank you Geoff.
Thanks for your generous review. I was so impressed with how hard you worked to provide a memorable party for your mum's eightieth, and it obviously was very memorable. Nevertheless, it was very disappointing that the celebrations were cut short by severe weather so unusually early in the winter. I look forward to seeing you again. Thanks for tidying up so well.
