Villefranche is an ancient fishing village steeped in tradition. It has a fascinating mixture of historic features and modern amenities, with excellent restaurants, boutiques and galleries lining the quayside and populating the narrow stone streets behind the village square. Nice is about 3km away, with every possible cultural, artistic and sporting facility imaginable. Monte Carlo Menton and the hilltop villages of Liguria are within easy reach.

About John and Jane Storey

Our family has owned the apartment since the 1970s when my parents were visiting the Cote D'Azur and found an apartment complex being built in a perfect spot! They bought it off plan and since then four generations of Storeys have enjoyed the apartment and Villefranche. It is a comfortable family home and we hope that guests also enjoy it as much as our family has. I have been going their for over 40 years now and I never tire of our beautiful view, the town and the sunshine!

It has an amazing view! Being on the ground floor the terrace is more spacious that others in the block. It provides a spectacular view as the apartment block is built on a hillside and the terrace is therefore elevated.

We are a short walk away from shops, bars and restaurants and access to public transport.

What makes this apartment unique

The view of course! It provides a panorama encompassing the mountains, the town, its citadel, the harbour, the bay and Cap Ferrat.

Thank you so much for letting us stay st your lovely appartment in Villefranche. We loved the town and the area, we had never been here before but we will definitely return. We followed your recommendations and had an open top bus tour of Nice. We went on the train to Monaco, the most bonkers place we have ever been! On the last day we drove up to Eze and enjoyed the fabulous view and the new we relaxed on the beach at Cap Ferrat. In the evening we had dinner at the Trastevere and especially loved seeing everyone arriving at the restaurant next door! Best wishes and thanks again from Fiona, Jon, Harry and Ben.

Notes on accommodation: Central heating and bedroom fans. Outside: The balcony/terrace area faces south, overlooking the sea. The panoramic view of the bay of Villefranche and the Cap Ferrat peninsula also takes in the southward sweep of the Alpes Maritimes, the town and its Citadel, the lighthouse at the end of Cap Ferrat, and the Port Darse, the working marina of Villefranche. The shared swimming pool is large and is open from 1st May to 30th September. It also has a safe, shallow children's pool suitable for children under 5. The apartment is within a complex that has beautiful well kept gardens with Mediterranean plants. Utility Room: The utility cupboard contains cleaning equipment, spare light bulbs, insect repellent etc. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: The apartment is cleaned between lets. Linen and towels are included in the rental. Beds are made up and ready for guests on their arrival. Cots and other items can also be hired from our local agent.

Fantastic views from a lovely apartment

We recently stayed for a week but would have loved to have stayed longer. The views over the bay are absolutely stunning. The complex is secure and very well looked after and the apartment itself is immaculately kept and has everything you could need. Jane and John are great to deal with and they quickly respond to any questions. The village of Villefranche is absolutely beautiful and has some excellent restaurants. We are definitely hoping to return to this lovely apartment in the near future.

Spacious well equipped apartment with stunning view of the bay from the balcony.

Stayed for 12 days recently and loved it. Very good communication with owners in the U.K. Apartment is easy to find, just a few kilometres from Nice just off of the lower main road to Monaco. Apartment is within very well cared for grounds, with good parking and security with gated entrance. The view of the bay is stunning looking across to Cap- Ferrat from the apartment balcony. It's also a sun trap. Apartment provides good facilities with T.V. etc. and is at ground level with the allocated parking space. Easy level walking into the town with bus stops very close by for Nice or Monaco, and the service is frequent. Fares are cheap. Will be revisiting again. Recommended.

Fabulous view from this very well located, spacious, well equipped apartment.

The property is in a great location for exploring Villefranche and the Côte d'Azur. Spacious, great balcony with amazing views, always a changing scene. The complex is beautifully kept and peaceful. I had never booked a holiday before where we were staying in a private property but the British owners were brilliant to deal with. They were quick with information and made lots of recommendations that we followed. Had fabulous days out in Monaco, Nice and Eze which are all very easy to get to from the apartment. We really enjoyed our final dinner out at La Trastavere on the harbour, great food and the people watching was amazing! Will use HomeAway again , thank you.

One of my most favourite views!

We have just returned from another stay at this lovely apartment and as always had a very relaxing holiday. The apartment has the most beautiful views over the bay and to be able to watch the comings and goings of cruise ships and super yachts from the comfort of the terrace with a glass of wine or two is truely ideal. It is very well equipped with everything you would want when having a self catering holiday with comfortable beds to give you a good nights sleep and a lounge giving the same views as from the terrace when the evenings are that bit cooler. Set in gated well kept gardens and having a designated parking space is also a bonus.

It is a 10 minute walk into the small town where there are many bars and restaurants to suit most tastes as well as the regular markets. Our favourite restaurant is the Trasrevere set by the waters edge and is always visited more than once during our stay. This time we also tried the newly opened tapas bar in the narrow streets of the old town which can definitely be recommended.

Villefranche is ideally located between Nice and Monaco which can both be visited by using the local bus service. For those wanting to explore further a drive into the hills behind will bring you to Eze village clinging to the rock face and giving spectacular views over the sea.

Well appointed apartment in a great location

We very much enjoyed our stay in this apartment, which is ideally located to explore the lovely village and harbour of Villefranche and the Cote d'Azur. The apartment has a spacious balcony with a great view of the harbour, all of the rooms are nicely furnished, and we enjoyed using the swimming pool.

We found Villefranche to be a delightful place with many good bars and restaurants within walking distance of the apartment. We particularly enjoyed the tapas restaurant Barrio Libre in the old town, and the rooftop bar at Achills, overlooking the harbour.

There is a train station if you want to explore the area (we went into Italy, to Menton and to Grasse), and the bus to Nice stops a few minutes down the road.

The owners are great to deal with, and answered our questions promptly. We hope to book again in the future!

Coast/Beach:

There are two main beaches at Villefranche - a long beach in the town with a fine shingle - not quite sand but suitable for children to play in. There are restaurants, snack bars and parking near to this beach. The other beach is a smaller area with large cobbles and lies near the Port Darse. There is a waterside restaurant/cafe here and it is very pleasant to sit and watch the boats coming and going. This is the nearest to the apartment, directly below and reached by flights of about 200 steps.

Travel:

The nearest airport is Nice International, 20 to 40 minutes away depending on the traffic conditions in Nice. Buses leave from a stop just outside the residence and taxis can be telephoned. The train station is at the other end of the town, about 20 mins walk away. Car hire is readily available, but not essential as the bus service is reliable and frequent, and right on the doorstep. Buses and trains travel all along the coast in both directions.

Distances:

Going east along the coast, Beaulieu sur Mer is 5 minutes, St Jean Cap Ferrat 10 mins. It takes 30 minutes to get to Monte Carlo, 45 minutes to 1 hour to Menton and the Italian border. To the west Nice is 10 minutes away, Antibes and Juan les Pins are 45 mins and Cannes is an hour away depending on traffic. The picturesque perched village of Eze is 20 mins, the small town of La Turbie which has a Roman monument is 30 minutes.

Further Details:

There is a small well stocked supermarket with fresh produce a 3 minute walk away. 2 patisseries and bread shops 5 minutes walk, as is the bank and a good tourist information office. Butcher's is 10 minutes away as are a whole selection of local shops as well as boutiques selling a wide range of goods from fashion, to art, to modern jewellery. On Saturday mornings along the wide boulevard going through the upper part of the town there is a local produce market selling olives, cheeses, charcuterie etc On Sundays in the same spot and in the old town square there is a famous antique market that has been a feature of Villefranche for many years. The town has a 16th century citadel which houses permanent sculpture/art exhibition and also hosts many temporary exhibitions throughout the year. There is a small chapel in the town the interior of which was painted by the artist Jean Cocteau. The area is rich in art, there are museums for Matisse, Chagall, Leger, Renoir, Picasso to name a few.

Booking Notes: Bookings are taken by phone and email and we ask for a 25% deposit (non refundable) to be paid to secure the booking. If you cancel within 60 days before the arrival date and have already paid the 25% deposit you will receive a 100% refund of the remaining 75%. The balance is paid a month before departure plus we request a £250 refundable breakage deposit which is returned on receipt of the keys. Our local agent cleans and checks the apartment between lets. Beds will be made up when you arrive, and bedlinen and towels are included in the rental.
