3 Bedrooms, 2 Bathrooms, 7+ Acres On A 1 Kilometre Private Sandy Beach.
Sea Mist is a traditional farm / fisherman’s house on a kilometre long natural sandy beach. It is a century old home located in the small seaside hamlet of Little Harbour, with nearly 500’ of sheltered waterfront on nearly eight private acres. It is a lovely retreat, that hugs you with calm when you walk through the door. Cozy, sunny, casual, with a bright kitchen, it makes a perfect vacation home for a family with children, or a couple.
The house has everything you need in a vacation cottage. Approximately 1900 square feet, but the flow makes it feel more spacious. The kitchen is fully equipped with a fridge, stove, dishwasher, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, kettle and other small appliances. Meals can be enjoyed outside on the deck, in a dining area off the kitchen, or at a table in the year-round sunroom.
All three bedrooms are upstairs. The master bedroom has a queen size bed. A second room has a double bed, while the third bedroom has a twin bed and a set of bunk beds. All bedrooms have dressers and closets. Linens are provided. There is a 4 piece bathroom on the upper level, and a 3 piece bathroom with a shower on the main floor. There is a stacking washer and dryer on the main floor as well.
A large deck allows you to enjoy a fabulous unobstructed view of Little Harbour and the Atlantic ocean beyond. Enjoy your morning coffee watching the sunrise over the harbour. While away an afternoon watching boats arriving at the lobster pound to unload their catch, listening to the surf or watching birds overhead. Stroll over to the pound and buy some lobsters for dinner (in season).
The meadow offers lots of room to play amongst the apple trees, wild roses, lupins and other wildflowers. This is a rural property with a variety of wildlife around the area. The sheltered sandy harbour is good for swimming and wading, and offers warmer water than one might expect from the north Atlantic……. at least by Nova Scotia’s standards. (But keep in mind, this is the north Atlantic!).
The south shore is a particularly fabulous location for birdwatchers. At the end of our road is Hemeon’s Head Conservation Lands. “This site is part of an internationally designated Important Bird Area, recognized for its significance for nesting, breeding and migratory birds. It provides critical habitat for several rare and endangered species, including Harlequin ducks, Red knots and Piping plovers. With so few plover nesting sites left in Nova Scotia, their habitat at at Hemeon’s Head is essential to survival of the species.” Further details on Hemeon’s Head are available at (copy and paste the link):
National Geographic has identified the South Shore of Nova Scotia as the 8th best coastal destination in the world. The area is excellent for outdoor recreational activities including sailing, kayaking, canoeing, fishing, hiking, trail walking and cycling, as well as coastal exploring and sightseeing. We are also well situated for day trips to many other beautiful beaches and villages all along the South Shore. It is less than a 15 minute drive to the quaint village of Lockeport and about a half hour (+/-) to Liverpool and Shelburne.
Sea Mist would be a great spot for a honeymoon for a couple but it is not available for weddings, events or reunions.
Long weekend and long-term rentals may be available, please enquire.

About Pam McKinnon
I am from Nova Scotia and my husband is from New Brunswick. While life took me out of the Maritimes for more than a decade, we now live in Halifax and make our way to Sea Mist as often as we can, year-round. I work in renewable energy and Dana is a lawyer.
Why Pam McKinnon chose Shelburne
The South Shore of Nova Scotia is a string of white beaches, ragged shores and quaint towns. So many things to see and do.
What makes this Cottage unique
There is a calm to Sea Mist that envelopes you when you arrive. It is quiet and beautiful. I love that there is room to roam and I can find a spot that suits whatever mood I am in or whatever the weather. There is such a variety of lovely spaces, to be as together or as solitary as you feel like, at any moment. Each day the clouds paint a new sky, and the waves sculpt a different beach. The moon and stars seem brighter. For me, the beauty of Sea Mist is the whole package. I love the older buildings; a home with character, that has changed over time, yet kept true to itself. I love that it is private, yet when you look back at it from the beach, above the trees and fields you can see other homes and a church of similar vintage, the lobster pound, the fire hall, a community. There is an old one-room schoolhouse, that stands there tiredly, still willing to support any bird that needs a place to rest. It seems part of a living postcard, from a simpler age. I enjoy going over to the lobster pound, walking in and having them weigh and sell me the freshest lobsters you can imagine. I love the sunrises, and the sunshine on the deck, and that it spills through the front windows in the kitchen and sunroom in the morning. And the meadow full of lupins, apple trees, and other wildflowers. And the butterfly bush. How busy they all are. And the walks on the beach. Bird watching at the marsh, a swim, picking apples and making chutney, curling up with a book in the sunroom, sitting on the deck with a glass of wine. Sea Mist feels like a special family gathering place from a different time.

relaxing and tranquil
Friendly and gracious owners. Enjoyed a wonderful week of peace and tranquility watching the mist come off the harbor and waking to the ocean view outside our window. Loved our stay and especially enjoyed star gazing at the dark night sky.
The nearest town for services (small grocery store / butcher, banking, pharmacy, mechanic/gas, restaurants, liquor store, medical, etc.) is Lockeport, less than 15 minutes away. An ATM is in the grocery store, not the bank. Larger national-chain grocery stores, a hospital with an emergency room, and additional services are available in Shelburne (30 minutes away) and Liverpool (about 40 minutes away).
