About Katch Tracy or Steve
This was the second B&B purchased by owner Monique Greenwood. Buttonwood holds a special place in her heart, as it was the inspiration for the start of the Akwaaba brand of home inspired hospitality and service. Akwaaba has Bed and Breakfast locations in Brooklyn NY, the original Akwaaba Mansion, Washington DC, hometown of Monique, and the crown jewel, the Mansion at Noble Lane in Bethany Pennsylvania, as sweeping 22 acre former Woolworth Estate.

Great for our needs
This cozy place is fun, airy, and comfortable. The location is great. Walking distance to everything. My husband and I and two of our girls were here the whole time. Over 10 days our adult children came in shifts as they could - Upstairs became 'the dormitory'. We enjoyed cooking inside and out and had everything we needed to do so. We hope to go back!
We had a fantastic stay at the Carriage House at Buttonwood.
Fantastic place to stay. The Carriage house was very clean, well equipped with everything we needed. We were only a few blocks from the beach and Dock Mikes across the street for breakfast. The local farmers market had terrific produce ( Tuesdays). The shops on Washington Square are fantastic in the evenings.
Excellent stay in Cape May
We had a great stay at Buttonwood. Great location, minutes away from the Nature Conservancy, Cape May Light House, and famous Cape May Beaches. A nice walk took us to the heart of CM, and we enjoyed the Mall and its surroundings. Moreover, we were lucky enough to attend the strawberry festival which was in the park right across the street from the house. Live music, fresh farm treats, antiques and much more! The Carriage House offered us the privacy and we felt at home, beds were comfortable, the kitchen offered us everything we needed to do some light cooking and there was a nice patio with a grill right on the side of our room, which we used and had a wonderful time, sipping cool drinks and enjoying homemade BBQ, corn on the cob and so on. There were beach chairs and even beach passes in every room, which is very thoughtful of the Akwaaba owners.
Carriage House at Buttonwood is located across from Wilbraham Park and is only 5 blocks to beach! Because we believe stress is water-soluble, we warmly welcome you to Cape May, America’s oldest seaside resort. You’ll step back to a place in time where life is simple, and a walk on the beach, a glorious sunset or a leisurely bike ride are enough to let your heart be light. The Carriage House at Buttonwood is 2 story unit that will accommodate up to 7 guests. Each unit has a private entrance for friends and families traveling together. With beautiful beaches, breathtaking Victorian architecture, and first-rate restaurants, it’s no wonder Cape May is on the list of “1,000 Places You Must Visit Before You Die.” America’s oldest seaside resort was declared a National Historic Landmark City in 1976, because when Cape May City nearly burned to the ground in 1878, the reconstruction that followed left a plethora of Victorian era buildings like no other in America. Indeed, strolling or biking down Cape May’s charming streets and admiring the gingerbread homes, painted in as many as seven colors, is a favorite pastime. About two and a half hours away from New York City and a little less from Philadelphia, Cape May is at the southernmost tip of New Jersey. It’s the Jersey Shore at its best; forget about what you’ve seen on MTV’s popular show featuring Snookie and crew. Because of the canal, Cape May is separated from the rest of New Jersey, both physically and metaphorically. It still looks like “small town America” right out of a Norman Rockwell painting and days are spent sunning and splashing at the shore, browsing at antiques and crafts fairs, shopping in unique boutiques on Washington Street Mall (there are no “chain stores”), wine tasting at local vineyards, exploring nature trails, climbing to the top of lighthouses, whale and dolphin watching, taking Cape May Historic Sites and Tours or ghost tours, golfing (real and miniature), fishing (surf and sea), luxuriating at spas, taking in Cape May Stage Professional Equity Theater – Cape May, NJ and enjoying moonlit carriage and trolley rides. What’s more, with customary seaside fare being joined by superior gourmet cuisine, dining in Cape May often exceeds the casual visitor’s expectations. Summer’s not the only time to visit Cape May. The Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts sponsors a slew of not-to-be-missed festivals, tours and special events throughout the year, including the Food & Wine Festival, Victorian Week and The Spring Festival. If that’s not enough to keep vacationers content, you can cross over the canal bridge to find amusement parks in Wildwood just 15 minutes away and Atlantic City casinos are only a 45-minute drive. Cape May NJ is home to some of the most unique boutiques, restaurants and sightseeing activities. You can spend your day laying on the beach and catching the surf or choose to check out one of the many attractions. A few ideas for our guests..
