Our sunny, inviting apartment occupies the complete second floor of a traditional 'fishermans house' constructed in the early 1900's. It is three minutes from the port on a small, quiet pedestrian street and faces south toward the sea and north toward the hills. Guests should note that the stairwell leading to the apartment is steep and narrow.
The apartment has a spacious living/dining room with an open kitchen which opens onto a sun-filled balcony large enough for meals or to read and sunbathe. The apartment is furnished with antiques and original art work and reflects the panache of Southern France. There is a gourmet European kitchen, fully equipped with service for 10, and all conveniences. The living area has a working fireplace, sofa bed (double) and cozy armchairs. The dining table will seat eight guests.
Lofts above the living room and both bedrooms are designed to give guests privacy and room for individual activities. The living room loft is furnished with HD flat screen TV and DVD, wireless internet connection, stereo and CD player with DVD connection to the TV. It can also accommodate additional sleeping. There is a full bathroom (Italian shower) and separate toilet.
The master bedroom is furnished with a queen bed, has its own balcony and the loft above is an office which is DSL-equipped. There is a small single bed in this loft space. The guest bedroom has a double bed and its loft has a single bed. All rooms have French windows, and they are light and airy.
The apartment is elegant, while feeling warm and comfortable, with a decor that reflects the atmosphere of the sea, hills and vineyards of this lovely part of Provence. The apartment totals 90 square meters (970 square feet), so it is comfortable for a family with children or couples vacationing together. There is extensive documentation provided for guests to explore the town, the Calanques of Cassis and the surrounding region.
Here are renters'comments: 'You will have to evict us. I don't think we will be able to leave!! Everything is perfect, gorgeous day today. The apartment is lovely. I had the best sleep last night since coming to France. Glorious bed.' (John & Naomi, May 2006).
'We stayed in this lovely Cassis apartment in the heat of August, and absolutely loved it! While days were beach-going hot, nighttime breezes meant the sleeping was very comfortable. The apartment could not be better equipped or more central. We walked everywhere with our 10-month son who particularly enjoyed the beaches, playground and early morning strolls in the harbour to see fishermen bring in their catch. The baby's bedtime meant that we couldn't always go out for dinner, but the apartment balcony allowed an intimate way to enjoy the town's atmosphere. From the apartment, it is a short walk to the three local beaches, but we also hilked to the Calanques (a must-see) and spent a wonderful day on a beach there. Cassis kept us entertained for the week. We were sad to leave, but did so extremely relaxed and happy.' (Malcolm & Natasha, August 2006)
Cassis has retained its authentic 'fishing village' identity, while being welcoming to European and English-speaking tourists. Just walk to the port in early morning and see the fishermen setting out for the day's catch, and coming back to port to display their offerings!
There are two beaches in town with showers; the boules alley, a children's park and many flavors of gelato two steps away. The town limits car traffic, so strolling is a favorite pastime, along with the obligatory pastis at 5:00 pm. We chose Cassis after many trips to the South because it offers everything--the delicious flavors of Provence, excellent access to other major Provencal sites and cities as well as good air and train connections to Paris, Milan and other European destinations.
We hope that you will find a warm place in your heart for Cassis as we did.
Leaning out of our apartment window in Paris, we can almost touch the Moulin Rouge. Darrell and I moved to here in 2001, after having lived in Seattle, Hartford and Brooklyn. We wanted a mid-life adventure and felt that Paris had everything--the buzz of a big city, great access to other European destinations, famous French cuisine (well, wine and cheese)and the experience of a new culture. When we miss having our toes in the ocean, we hop on the TGV and find ourselves in Cassis 3 hours later. Why Cassis? We had a rule: only Paris. But people kept saying to us, 'you love the sea; have you been to Cassis?' When we finally went, it was a 'coup de foudre' (love at first sight, loosely translated.) So we adopted the 'Cassis habit'--several times a year we went, especially out of season when it was still warm enough to swim and the sky is blue, but there weren't as many tourists. Finally we realized that it was perfect for us; our real life is in Paris and our escape life is in Cassis. It can't get better than this!

As expats, we wanted to live and invest in places where we felt we could make friends and not be isolated in the expat American community. We have spent time in the famous French 'watering holes' (Nice, Cannes, St. Tropez) and they didn't rhyme with us. We are interested in Roman archeology and have enjoyed exploring the Roman cities near Marseille. When we visited Cassis and the Calanques, we immediately felt that we could make this city our own. We like the simple local architecture, which has been protected by local authorities, the scale of the village and the fact that it has a regular life beyond tourism. We especially enjoy going to Cassis out of season, when the pace is slower and people return to their everyday lives. We found our apartment in a traditional Cassis fisherman's house and have updated and restored it, while retaining its simple character. Sitting on the balcony, gazing down the street; sipping a pastis and watching the Cap Canaille become golden at sunset; sunning on the beach at the height of the summer season--all of these are the pleasures that we savor in Cassis. We take great satisfaction in sharing our Cassis with our guests and hope that they will feel some of the same magic that has touched us.
08/2009: Words cannot describe how much we enjoyed our stay in Cassis & in particular this apartment. Upon arriving we immediately felt comfortable, like we were at home. the town is also brillant, a great mix of swimming (love the beach being so close!), shopping & restaurants. May thanks in particular to Stephanie who was so warm & welcoming & willing to answer all my questions! We will definely try to return!! Anne-Louise & Mark and family, Sydney, Australia
Once again I’m thinking of returning to Cassis and your wonderful apartment.
I’ve lost track of the exact number of times I’ve visited, with or without friends (who always want to return with me).
There are so many things I love about this sweet place to relax and enjoy Cassis: the apartment itself, which is charmingly decorated and so very well equipped.; the proximity to the port, shopping and restaurants, and even a good butcher shop a few steps away. Then there’s the wonderful market, twice a week, which is just the right size. Walks along the Coast and, often, a boat trip to the Calenques add to the enjoyment, as does an occasional trip to Bandol for ‘serious’ wine tasting.
But perhaps the best part of a stay in your apartment is just relaxing on one of the two little balconies, soaking in the atmosphere of what is still a busy Mediterranean fishing village, with plenty of local characters who seem undeterred by the tourists from Marseilles and all over the world, while sipping a delicious glass of Cassis rose. Thank you so much for creating a really special spot to use as a base for relaxing and exploring a wonderful part of the French coast. I look forward to my return.
We Spent the best week ever in Cassis for our First Family Vacation in South France. This apartment was perfect for us a family of 4 with 2 little kids (6 year old and 4years old).
About the Apartment:It is super clean, has 2 main rooms with Queen beds but each bedroom has a fun upper area (loft/attic) where you can go and another sleeping area is set up.For my Kids they felt like in heaven having an imaginary fort where they will go and play. The charm of the apartment is unique and the spaces are fun and confortable. It has anything you need and more.We did all the breakfasts and cooked lots of our dinners there. The owner has everything you need and more.We loved having breakfast or nice bottle of wine after a fun busy day at the balcony. We loved also having little kids that the apartment is just steps away from the Pier and the Beach. Also is walking distance from the supermarket, restaurant or the best Gelatos we had in our life!.
Cassis: It is a very cute little town where you can scape the crwds and have fun, great restaurants and lots of fun things to do very close. We went to the 2 beaches close by,and took a tour to the Calenque islands. Also we took day trips, to St Tropex,Nice, Aix Provence and Marseille...I will need pages and hrs to tell you how magical our experience was!...If Denver Colorado was closer I will be coming every day :) as a Family we made a promise that we will for sure be back to wonderful Cassis!.
The Owners: Stephanie was always very helpful, answered all our questions and gave us lots of tips and recomendations for our Stay.
Eric, Fabienne, Agathe - Paris
Two of stayed here and had a wonderful holiday. The apartment had everything we needed, is very clean and is in a really convenient location close to the waterfront and all the restaurants. Cassie itself is lovely but so is the surrounding area - whether the crystal-clear water of the Calanques which run from Cassis to Marseilles, or the wine areas, including Bandol, so close by. We hope to return soon.
My wife and I rented the apartment in Cassis in August, 2013. It is 1 street back from the main harbour which is a busy place, so you would not want to be much closer. It is well located and the street where the apartment is located is small and does not carry any vehicle traffic and not too many pedestrians either; a very good spot to have full access to the town and the harbour.
The apartment is on the upper floor of the two story building and you go up a set of stairs to get in after going through the door on the street. It has plenty of room, a good toilet, shower room and kitchen and is well furnished, decorated and has the usual electronic services. The upstairs is a loft with internet access and a separate small bedroom. Off the main living room is a great little balcony to sit on while overlooking the street with an awning to protect from the hot sun. Also an excellent ice cream shop on the corner.
August is a very busy tourist time and Cassis is clearly a most popular destination with the French generally and the Marseillais specifically. We found it perhaps too crowded and parking nearby was a continuing difficulty. The harbour can be very crowded. When we go back to this apartment (and we will) it will be in the “off season” when it is still warm but not so thick with summer vacationers. I would also note, that even though the location is near the centre of everything, there was no appreciable street noise nor drunk carousers in the later evening.
The harbour walk has some excellent restaurants as well as others in the streets near the apartment. I also highly recommend the restaurant where we went to pick-up the keys to check-in to the apartment. Just show-up a bit early wherever you go to eat, or reserve a table, because all of France goes to dinner at 8:00 p.m. and you will then have to hunt for a table.
There is a very nice beach along the harbour as well as others nearby the town. You also should consider taking the boat cruise out of the harbour to the “calanques” (fjords in the white limestone cliffs) where locals with boat and vehicle access go to swim and enjoy beach life. It is a pleasant boat ride of about 2 hours and will give you a view of the countryside from the sea.
