About the property

Time tends to stop while relaxing in this beautiful, expansive home on the highest altitude lake east of the Mississippi, Lake Glenville, North Carolina. Nestled in a mountaintop Christmas tree farm 4,000’ above MSL on a three-acre orchard this house takes you back to a simpler time with the modern conveniences of today’s living. Lake access is an easy sloped walk from stone steps on the bank of the private swimming cove. A tandem canoe and a single kayak are for your use or have a local rental pontoon boat delivered to the cove. Enjoy gorgeous lake and mountain views from within the home or from the wraparound decks where you can feel the cool mountain breezes while enjoying soothing sounds of the waterfall located in the yard. The location has an abundance of activities for everyone in the family. Very close to Cashiers, Highlands and Asheville for those day trips exploring the antique stores or great restaurants.

This delightfully decorated home has an open floor plan with a large country kitchen, dining area and great room with a wood burning fireplace upstairs. An abundance of windows and porches provide a light and open-air ambiance. The Basement level is completely self- sufficient with full views, porches, TV, another fireplace and a full kitchen for the kids, in-laws, or another family. The yard is reasonably level and kid-friendly. Fax machine, printer, Wi-Fi and unlimited Long Distance are all available for that working vacation.

Nonsmoking only with a maximum of 10 guests allowed at any one time. Lodgings longer than one week require a professional cleaning each week.

Some of the finest trout fly fishing streams in the Great Smoky Mountains on the Chattooga River located about 20 minutes from the property. Drive-up access to breathtaking stretches of the river that is well stocked with browns and rainbows. Guides and equipment can be rented locally. Visit the fly shop in Cashiers.

For the more adventurous, white water rafting; the Nantahala River, 38 minutes away, provides some of the most exciting guided whitewater rafting on the east coast. Well known for its rafting trips down the river and through the mountains with experienced guides that produce some terrific white knuckle family memories.

Feeling Lucky? A full casino is less than an hour away. Harrah’s Cherokee Casino located on the Cherokee reservation. Open 24/7 for non-stop fun.

Golf is always close by; the historic High Hampton Inn, 15 minutes away has a wonderful course that’s reasonable and provides some of the wonderful mountain views and foliage you’ll find on any course.

A lovely mountain retreat

  • 5 of 5

Our family loves staying in this house! We have stayed here 3 or 4 times and so much enjoy the large kitchen, and the outdoor covered porch. With a large family, the cubic footage from the high ceilings easily absorb the cacophony of noise. There's plenty of parking and the walk down to the dock is steep but safe. The house is starting to show some signs of wear and tear in the hardwood floors, some of the windows, and wood areas outside. The once very pretty landscaping seems a little neglected and tired. And on a side note, we so needed access to the extra refrigerator in the laundry room for overflow of food for 10. All said and done, we love Summer Cove and have created some awesome memories while staying there. I hope it stays accessible for a long time as a rental.

Owner's Response: Dear 2Westielady- A very kind review but you didn't stay in my vacation lake house, Applecot Cove. You stayed in Sommer Cove, also on Lake Glenville, and sound like you have some fond memories. My rental link Applecot Cove which you'll see you just got them confused. Very Best Regards, Applecot Cove
