Maurizio, Italian born and bred divides his time between Tuscany and Milan where he is a successful advertising photographer and film director. Thomas is 14 years old and passionate about fast cars. He goes to the school in Australia. His little brother Elliott who is 12 years old loves computer programming and mine craft! We are all completely bilingual in Italian and English.
Margaret purchased this Farmhouse in 2005
Why Margaret chose Cortona
Welcome to our home. Having become tired of the city and smog filled air of Milan we began searching for a better way of life for our children and ourselves 9 years ago. We stumbled on this property and instantly fell in love with it! The property probably dates back to the 1100s with the newest part being built in the early 1800s. The house would originally have been built by the farm workers who were under the power of the land owner who lived next door (evident by the tower on our neighbours house). We have been told that our home housed 30 people in the early 1920s as well as a barn under the house for the animals. The land was let completely go after the second world war when many farms in Italy were abandoned for the lure of easy work in the cities.
What makes this Farmhouse unique
Our little farm offers a respite from the bustling Tuscan towns that surround us. The benefits of being at 650m above sea level means that the nights are always cool, no matter how hot the days are. Our 24/7 presence means that we are always on hand for advice about what to see and where to go and "how to say in Italian" as well as for any questions or problems that you may have.

Lovely place, lovely hosts. Great countryside.
The property was well equiped and clean. The swimming pool was great. The setting was amazing. Margaret and Maurizio were very approachable and helpful.
Thank you so much for your kind words and for choosing our little farm for your holiday.
A beautifully tranquil and family friendly home close to Cortona with the perfect hosts!
If you are looking for somewhere to instantly feel like home where you can relax and let your kids play and explore then you have found the right place.
Margaret and Maurizio who own this stunning property have created the perfect atmosphere to unwind and enjoy a slower pace of life. We couldn't have asked for better hosts during our week at thier place close to Cortona. Booking the best tables at restaurants, sugesstions for great day trips or even tips for experiencing the most amazing sunset was no problem for Margret and Maurizio who really made us feel at home during our stay.
The apartment was extremely clean and had everything we needed to recreate some fantastic Tuscan food. Sitting in the beautiful garden to eat, relax with a book and a glass of wine or even just watching the hundreds of butterflies was an absolute joy. Especially as our two kids (5 and 8 years) could safely run around, play football and badminton, bounce on the trampoline and say hello to their new best friend Punch the dog, without us needing to worry about them playing around the lovely pool area, as it is discretely fenced off from the rest of the property. When it was time for a dip we could all go to the pool together and swim or lie on the sunloungers drinking in the surrounding scenery of valleys and hills.
Being so close to the lively and picturesque town of Cortona was the icing on the cake. If you want a relaxing and thoroughly enjoyable Tuscan holiday we cannot recommend Margaret and Maurizio's place enough.
Thank you so much for such a positive review. It's always a joy for us to know that our guests have had a wonderful time at our little property. Perhaps we'll see you and the boys again next summer!
Perfect place for a family holiday in Tuscany
We had a really great and relaxing holiday here. The setting is absolutely beautiful with views over the Tuscan countryside.
The house was very clean and well equipped. We were travelling with a 9 month old and Margaret and Maurizio provided lots of additional baby equipment which was extremely helpful!
Just a short drive from the picturesque town of Cortona and well located for trips to several other towns and cities. However it was also nice just to relax by the pool, have a bbq and enjoy the lovely garden with a glass of local wine.
Hi Claire, I'm really pleased to know that you had such a good holiday here with us and that the extra baby gear was useful.
Many thanks, Margaret
Beautiful Family-Friendly Tuscan Farm Near Cortona
I cannot recommend this property enough! The farm is located in the Tuscan hillside, near Cortona and is great for families or anyone who wants to relax in the countryside. There's a pool, trampoline, swing-set, treehouse, and all other gear needed for kids with young kids. The surrounding area is absolutely beautiful and Margaret and Maurizio could not be nicer hosts. We recently stayed there with our five year old and 7 month old. Both kids were exhausted when we arrived after our long plane ride from the U.S. and we forgot to swing by a grocery store, which is a bit of a drive from the location. Maurizio actually went grocery shopping for us and Margaret brought a plate of dinner for them while they waited. The two of them and their family are so incredibly welcoming and generous - we can't wait to stay there again!
Perfect Tuscan getaway in the hills near Cortona
We are two Australian couples in our sixties who spent 4 nights at this lovely property. The property is not too far from Cortona and the drive is very scenic. We love Cortona but find the busyness of the place becomes a little too much so it was lovely to come home each evening to our tranquil property. The apartments are fitted out with everthing you need and Margaret is on hand for anything else you might want. In fact we needed some information we had left behind in our apartment while on a day trip to Florence and a quick call to Margaret and the information was text back to us. There are lots of outside areas to sit and enjoy the views, to enjoy a vino or have a BBQ. The property is ideally located for day trips to surrounding towns. We drove to Assisi one day. Drove into the train station near Cortona another day and caught the train to Florence. A car is essential if staying here. We would highly recommend this property especially to any Australians visiting this beautiful part of Tuscany. The owners were so helpful and they made sure our stay was memorable.
Perfect get away
Fantastic place up in the mountains. Lovely surroundings and well equiped apartment. Rural and authentic.
The closest beach is at Grosetto and takes a good two hours of driving.
A rental car is essential in this area of Tuscany as public transport is scant. Perugia 60km. Firence 130km. Roma Fiumicino 250km.
From Cortona: Keeping the ancient walls of Cortona on your right head on towards Citta di Castello. At Portole, keep to the right and continue for another 3.5km. At the number 15 blue and white road sign turn immediately right onto a white gravel track. Continue down the track until you come upon small brown barn in a field. You have arrived!
